Chapter 116

Ashton's POV:

"Daddy, I sleepy." Gracie's innocent and adorable voice floated into my ear as her head rested on my shoulder while I carried her.

"I know, it's past your bedtime." I rubbed her back as she cuddled up to me.

"I don't like bedtime." She said and I heard Carter chuckle next to me and I sent my pretty girl a smile.

"Me and Mommy like bedtime." I said and watched Gracie purse her lips from the corner of my eye.

"I like bedtime." She then said and Carter and I laughed.

We walked inside our hotel and then made our way up to our room. Carter slipped inside the bathroom to change clothes and get ready and then moved on to get Gracie ready while Ender took a shower.

"So do you think I'm model material?" Carter blurted out as she had Gracie laying on the bed as she rubbed baby lotion on her.

"Model? You want to model?" I raised my eyebrows.

"No." She laughed. "I was just asking if you thought I could do it."

"Yeah, as long as you didn't have to wear heels."I chuckled and she laughed.

"Agreed."

"Where did this whole modelling thing come up?" I asked.

"Harry mentioned it." She said before picking
up Gracie's left leg to start putting the lotion on it. "I thought it was funny."

"Well if it's something you're actually interested in then I want you to go for it." I said and she shrugged.

"It's just a thought." She sent me a smile.

Once Gracie was lotion lathered Carter got her in her onesie and then zipped her up.

Ender came out of the bathroom ready for bed and I flipped back the blankets on the kids bed so I could tuck them in.

"Alright, sweet dreams baby girl. I love you." I kissed Gracie goodnight and moved to Ender so Carter could kiss her goodnight. "Night bud." I kissed his forehead.

Carter turned off the lights and we moved into our bed.

I cuddled Carter into me and she sighed happily.

"Tomorrow before the show can we just take a nap or watch a movie together?" She mumbled into my ear. "I want to spend some time with you."

"Sure baby. That sounds amazing." I kissed her ear.

"I just still miss you." She said and I frowned.

"I don't want you to miss me, I'm always right here."

"I know you are. I just...I'm feeling a little homesick...I'm sorry."

"Come here, baby." I moved her so that I was able to lean over her. "Just close your eyes, okay?"

She smiled as she closed her eyes and I began to stroke my fingers down her face, hoping to relax her.

It worked because she turned her face into my hand and I then moved to lay with her, my body halfway over hers to keep her warm and safe in my arms.

"I love you so much Car." I kissed her lips.

"I love you too." She kissed me back before we fell asleep.

I was awoken by knees hitting my side and I opened my eyes to see Carter turning on her side, her face looking contorted in pain.

"Car?" I rubbed my eyes to try and wake myself up.

"I really don't feel good." She said and I sat up in the bed.

"What's going on?"

"I just don't feel good." She whimpered and I could see a tear race down her cheek.

"Okay." I said, trying to figure out what to do.

"I'm going to be sick." She muttered and got out of the bed quickly and rushed to the bathroom.

This was how our morning went.

I stayed with her on the bathroom floor for the entire morning until the kids woke up and I moved Carter to the bed to rest while I got the kids ready.

Gracie kept trying to hug her and I had to keep dragging her back.

"Dad I can't find my toothbrush." Ender walked out of the bathroom.

"Oh, I moved it this morning it's on the dresser." I said as I put Gracie's hair in a ponytail.

"Okay." I moved over to Carter. "Hey baby," I woke her up, "I need you to get dressed and then we can go to the car and you can sleep."

She nodded and I helped her into some sweatpants and and my hoodie that she had stolen.

Once dressed I had Ender take care of Gracie while I lifted Carter up and cradled her in my arms as we left the hotel.

She fell asleep as I carried her and stayed that way until we got to the stadium where I carried her inside again and laid her on the sofa, calling in one of the medics at the stadium to come look at her.

The translator explained to me what the doctor was saying and he diagnosed Carter with a stomach bug, but said that she needed to rest.

He gave her something for her stomach and head and then left.

Carter had fallen back asleep literally the second the doctor stopped looking at her and I moved Gracie and Ender to the other side of the room to make sure they didn't get sick as well.

I sat on the sofa watching television with both Ender and Gracie sitting in my lap.

"I want Mommy." Gracie pouted and flopped her head on my chest.

"I know baby girl." I kissed her forehead and rubbed her back. "I want Mommy too, but she's  gotta rest so she can get better."

"Why is she sick?" Ender asked as his head leaned on my shoulder.

"I don't know bud. Her body just hasn't been the same since she had those seizures. She gets sick more easily and needs more rest than she normally does." I explained to him.

"I don't like seeing her sick." He said.

"Me either." I sighed.

"Can I draw picture for Mommy?" Gracie asked me and I told her yes, the child going over to the table to get her colours and some paper.

"Ash?" I heard Carter croak, and Ender and I went over to her. "I'm freezing."

"Okay." I smoothed my hand across her cheek and then went to go find a blanket, coming back with one that had the band logo on it.

I laid it over her and I could see her physically relax as the warmth comforted her.

I went to make her some hot tea as well and she sat up to drink it, her small self shivering.

"I'm s-sorry I'm s-s-sick." She said through chattering teeth.

"It's okay." I smiled at her. "I just want you to get better."

"Yeah." She nodded and took another sip of her tea.

"How about we do your idea from yesterday and go watch a movie while you rest?" I asked her and she nodded again.

I took her tea and she wrapped the blankets around her like a cape and walked over to the other sofa to sit next to me after I put in a DVD I had made sure to bring from the house.

I set her tea on the coffee table and then put my arm around her as she leaned into me, the opening credits and song to Peter Pan coming on the screen.

"Thank you." She sniffled and I looked to see her wipe a tear away.

"Are you hurting?" I asked in her in concern.

"No, this is just really sweet."

She lasted about twenty minutes into the movie before curling up with her head in my lap.

I felt awful for her, knowing she really didn't feel well and I decided I would make this a day to remember for us to cheer her up.

"Hey End, can you bring me my back pack please?" I asked my eleven year old and he brought it to me and I reached inside for my journal and pen.

Ever since I had started writing Carters love letter for our six month anniversary on the plane, I was getting excited for her to read it.

I added on to it, word by word, sentence by sentence, paragraph by paragraph and page by page until it was complete. I carefully tore the pages from the book and folded them neatly, then placed them back in my back pack.

Making sure she was fast asleep I then called the hotel we were at and made a few requests for when we got back and then called a few more places and the boys who were out before finishing my plans.

Once done I began to run my hand up and down her side, feeling every dip and curve that I had memorised so long ago before moving my hand to her face to softly caress it.

A knock at our door had me looking to see Harry standing there.

"Hey man." I said and he walked towards me.

"Oh." He said once he noticed Carter. "Is everything alright?"

"She's sick, some kind of stomach bug." I answered.

"I was wondering if maybe you both would be available for going out for sushi, but I'm guessing no." He frowned.

"Yeah not today." I gave him a smile. "The doctor put her on bed rest, but thanks for the offer."

"No problem. Let her know I hope she feels better."

"I will." I said as he began to walk away, then remembered something. "Oh, and Harry!" I called out to him and he turned around. "Thanks for keeping her company yesterday, she had fun and we both really appreciate it, she needs more friends in her life."

"It was no problem. I had fun as well." Harry said before leaving.

I turned back to Carter only for Gracie to come running up to me.

"Daddy I finished my picture for Mommy." She showed it to me. "Ender helped me." It was of two stick people,  one a girl and one a smaller girl.

"Aw, is that you and Mommy?" I asked her and she nodded up at me with a smile.

"That's sweet. You can show it to her as soon as she wakes up." I kissed Gracie's forehead.

Carter slept for a long time until I had to wake her up in order to give her her medicine, and then let her know I was going to sound check but that I would be back.

"I wanna go." She poked out her bottom lip.

"No baby, you've gotta rest." I shook my head.

"I'll just be sitting there." She protested and I sighed in defeat.

"Fine, lets go." I picked her up and she wrapped her arms around my neck and her legs around my waist. The kids followed as I carried Carter into the arena and up onto the stage, setting her down in a chair.

She sat there while we sound checked and I managed to take her picture while she dozed off (somehow I will never know) and shared it saying 'When your girl is sick but still supportive.'

After sound check I carried her back to the room where she had some toast and a banana before laying down on the sofa.

"Mommy." Gracie walked up to her. "I make you picture."

"Is that of me and you?" Carter asked her and Gracie beamed up at her. "This is so sweet, thank you baby girl. I love it."

Carter blew her a kiss instead of actually kissing her and I smiled at the mother and daughter.

The rest of our afternoon/evening was spent with us eating dinner and getting ready for the show that Carter refused to miss even after I pleaded with her to stay in the dressing room and rest.

We compromised and I had her stand off to the side, not in her usual section and made sure she had a chair and a security guard and medic there.

After the show I wanted to get us back to the hotel and I sat next to Carter on the way there when all of the sudden her hand flew out and smacked my arm.

"Ow! What was that for?!" I grabbed onto my arm from where she hit it.

"Tomorrow is your birthday!" She exclaimed.

"Yes?" I said, remembering the date.

"We're going to be on a plane for your birthday!" She said and I laughed.

"It's okay."

"How are we supposed to celebrate?"

"We can do it after." I squeezed her hand and gave her a smile.

Once we got to the hotel the boys made up their excuse of having the kids go to their room so they could discuss things about my birthday while I led Carter across the hall to our room and opened the door to reveal my surprise.

In our room was a bouquet of a dozen long stem red roses, a tray of chocolate covered strawberries, and a bottle of champagne.

Carter gasped and put her hands over her mouth in surprise as she walked in.

"Oh my god what is this?!" She asked, obviously in surprise and I grinned at her beautiful blushing cheeks.

"Happy six month anniversary." I smiled at her.

"Oh my god." She said again before going to hug me. "Thank you. This is so sweet, Ash."

"I have something for you." I kissed her forehead then went to my back pack to find the letter.

"If you bought me another $10,000 ring I'm going to kill you." She said as I rummaged around.

"Nope, this gift was free." I pulled the sheets of paper out before handing them to her.

"What is it?" She furrowed her eyebrows.

"Read it." I said and she sat down on the bed, unfolding the sheets of paper and beginning to read the words I had written for her.
