Aria's POV

I woke up to the sound of Eliot yodeling outside our tent.

As I started to get up, Alastor stirred as well and groaned.

"Why must he be so loud..." he grumbled before grabbing his pillow and putting it over his face, curling up.

I chuckled at that and plucked the pillow from his hands, revealing his tired face and messy hair.

"Come on, y'all, get up!" Eliot yelled from outside the tent, and Alastor lazily flicked his wrist towards the zipped up door.

"Ow! How did that even happen?!" Eliot said from the other side and I stifled a laugh.

Finally he sat up and looked over at me. He glanced at my bare chest and smiled.

"Good morning to me," he mumbled and I yanked the covers off of him, revealing his naked lower half.

"And me too," I chirped and he laughed.

We got up and worked around each other effortlessly. He fixed his hair and then snapped his fingers to dress himself.

I casually put on my outfit for the day and then we emerged from our tent. Eliot was standing with his hands on his hips and Jake was trying to start a fire.

Key word, trying.

He had piled a bunch of little dead sticks together, and was desperately trying to light them, using leaves as kindling.

I went over and sat on one of the logs, watching him amusedly.

Alastor casually sauntered over next to him and Jake sighed, letting his head hang slightly.

"I know you're standing there judging me...but do you know how to do it?" He grumbled, looking up at Alastor, who smiled widely down at him.

"I actually do know how to start a simple fire," he replied condescendingly and Jake immediately rolled his eyes, then stood up and stepped back.

"Then go ahead, let's see it," he said, and smiled slightly, "let's hope you're not lyin'."

Alastor lowered his eyelids, and he was still smiling before he shifted his gaze to me and scoffed, shaking his head.

He knelt down, and Jake stood behind him with his arms crossed.

He kept one hand resting over his leg, out of Jake's view, and used his other hand to take the lighter Jake had been using.

He flicked it to life, and at the exact same time I watched him snap his fingers and the little fire pit roared to life.

I crossed my arms, watching him stand with a smug smile and walk over to sit next to me. Once he sat down I glared up at him and he looked back amusedly.

Jake was now thoroughly embarrassed and annoyed, and had gone off to get the breakfast foods we'd brought.

"You didn't have to do that," I said quietly, disappointment in my tone. Alastor sighed and looked away from me.

"Actually, he challenged me. In hell, my snap would have set him on fire. He's lucky."

I rolled my eyes heavily and then laid my head against his shoulder.

"Can you try to play nice...? Please?" I asked, and he huffed, obviously not too keen on the idea. I looked up at him and gave him the eyes.

"For me?" I added sweetly and he looked down at me, keeping his expression cold.

I counted down from five in my head, and right when I hit zero, he cracked.

"Fine...I'll "play nice"..." he grumbled, then wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me closer to him, "but because I want to...not because you told me to..." he murmured and I snorted softly.

"Thanks."

Just then Eliot popped over just as Jake got back and wrapped his arms around Alastor from behind, causing him to completely tense up.

"Eliot." Alastor growled in a warning tone and I giggled watching them bicker. Eliot was trying to kiss his cheek and Alastor was actively avoiding him.

"C'mon, just one kiss? One!" Eliot whined and Alastor held him at arms length, his entire hand over his face.

"No!" He growled and I looked over at Jake, meeting his eyes for a moment. He was watching the scene with a bored expression, but when he met my eyes he smiled.

I looked back to the boys arguing and smiled softly. My eyebrows furrowed and I sighed.

I'm going to miss this...

Quickly I shook off the sadness and my smile that had faltered returned. It's nothing to be sad over...I'm spending time with them now, and I've gotten to know them my entire life.

A new chapter is starting for me, and it's starting with Alastor and I living comfortably together in hell...

I won't have to hide anymore. There won't be anything to lie about...

I'll finally be free to love him without worrying about any consequences.

**

The later it got, the closer it came to the time the fireworks would start. The show itself starts at 11:30 and lasts periodically until 12 when the grand finale is.

Right now it's about 10 and we're all sitting around the fire, telling stories.

Alastor had so many stories, and I've heard him tell stories before but never like this. When he speaks it holds an authority like none other.

He talks like a show host.

It's mesmerizing to listen to.

He never talks like this around me, he just speaks comfortably. I love that, I love that he's comfortable around me.

But I also really like when he speaks like this, as well.

I was smiling at him as he spoke, watching the way the flames casted a dancing shadow on the side of his face. His eyes met mine for a moment.

The smile on his face widened slightly and he shot me a smooth wink, not breaking his story flow at all. I blushed and just kept listening.

I glanced over and saw Jake. He was listening, but there was a look on his face. A thoughtful look.

Then suddenly he stood up and excused himself, walking away into the woods. I watched him leave, furrowing my brows slightly.

I looked back to Alastor, who had momentarily paused his story. I gave him a little smile and stood up.

"I'm going to go check on him..." I said softly, and he looked at me for a moment. He seemed to run through a million different thoughts before he just nodded.

I watched Eliot grab his arm as I walked away.

"So, keep telling your story, Max..." he said, sounding very interested. I shook my head with a soft chuckle, heading towards the woods where Jake disappeared.

It didn't take me long before I came to a small clearing, pausing for a moment as I observed him standing near the center.

Just looking up at the night sky.

Slowly I walked over, coming up next to him. I was wearing a soft smile, and looked up where he was looking.

The night was clear, stars dusted the sky.

"It's pretty out tonight..." I said softly, and he hummed. His hands were in his pockets and he looked down at me.

I met his eyes. They were blue, like Eliot's, but his were a tad bit darker. Eliot had baby blue eyes, where Jake had more of a deep ocean blue.

"Not as pretty as you," he cooed at me teasingly and I snorted before pushing him away playfully.

"Oh you big sap, stop it," I said and he chuckled, then sighed.

"You know...I was going to try and steal you from him..." he said, and my eyes widened. He shook his head, "but I'm honestly not sure how to compete with that," he said barely above a whisper and I pursed my lips.

"Jake..." I started, and he looked at me. I could see the clear sadness in his eyes, but he was wearing a smile.

I touched his arm and he glanced at my hand.

"It was never a competition...and in the end, I would choose him..." I've already made up my mind. We've come to the end.

And I chose him.

"So please don't try anything stupid..." I begged him, "he'll kick your ass," I added teasingly.

Although, I'm being very serious.

Jake chuckled at that, "I know...I know you've already made your choice...and I think I could take him in a fight," he said with a casual shrug.

Ehe...no. You couldn't.

"I wouldn't test that theory," I chuckled slightly and he did as well.

Then I noticed a soft light pulse in front of us like a little heart beat.

Then all around us, soft little lights softly faded in and out.

Jake walked over to one, and cupped his hands around it. He walked back to me, and uncupped his hands, showing me the small bug producing the light.

"Look at that...a firefly," he said quietly, and I watched the small bug crawl around his hand. After a moment it lifted its wings and flew away.

I watched it, and so did Jake.

"You remember when we'd run around and catch those together..." he said quietly, "and you would always get mad at me, because you said I caught too many?" He asked, looking down at me.

I looked back at him, feeling reminiscent at the reminder.

"I do," I said with a smile and he smiled as well.

"So...when you weren't looking I'd sneak some of mine into your jar...you would have so many," he chuckled.

Then he looked back to the sky.

"My firefly..." he said, barely above a whisper.

My chest ached slightly at the use of that nickname. I reached over and grabbed his hand, and turned to face him fully.

He turned as well.

"Just because I moved on...doesn't mean I love you any less..." I said quietly, looking into his eyes.

He stared back at me, a soft look in his face.

"I just love you differently," I added, and squeezed his hand gently.

He smiled barely, then nodded.

"I know...we should probably get back," he said, then turned and walked back towards the camp.

I watched him, and my smile fell into a frown.

I looked back up at the sky, watching the stars glitter softly. My eyes shut, and I took a deep breath.

Goodbye, Jake...
