Ch 39

Aria being a brat lmao

Aria's POV

This week has gone by quickly, and the weekend was soon approaching.

Alastor comes and goes as he pleases, but most of the time he's here.

Now is not one of those times.

He's gone back down to hell for whatever reason. I asked him once what it is he actually does down in hell.

He said he handles his territory and apparently he's also helping the princess with some project.

But that has nothing to do with me so I just left it there.

Today is Friday, so I decided if Alastor isn't here I should probably get some cleaning done. I was humming softly as I walked around, cleaning up random areas and dusting.

God, this is such a big house.

I never really notice until I actually have to clean shit. Then it just becomes too much space and too many rooms.

I was on my way to the kitchen now with my mop bucket, ready to clean the floor. As soon as I stepped foot through the entry way to the kitchen, I gasped.

White clouded my vision and that cool breeze passed across my face again before my sight cleared.

I'm still standing in the kitchen.

I looked down at my side, but the mop bucket was gone. I furrowed my eyebrows and looked around.

"Alrighty!" Alastor's voice scared the hell out of me, making me jump and turn, moving out of his way just as he entered the kitchen.

Oh...another one of these.

I watched curiously, entering the kitchen a bit more. He had a big smile on his face, and he was holding a small bowl.

He was wearing bloody gloves, and I tilted my head.

"Koda, dinner!" He called and I gasped when a little cat ran between my legs and hopped up onto the kitchen table.

Alastor's eyelids lowered and he placed the bowl onto the floor. It looked to have raw meat in it.

"Dakota, get off of the table, you scoundrel," he chastised and picked her up. She meowed softly and he placed her on the floor, chuckling.

I smiled softly and walked over closer to him. I ran my fingers across the table and looked around. Everything looks brand new.

"I wish I could have known you when you were alive," I said softly as I looked around, and turned to face him. He was just rummaging through the fridge.

He pulled out something that was wrapped in cloth and bound with twine. The cloth was bloody.

I furrowed my eyebrows and watched as he unwound the twine, then looked over at the cat that was now eating.

"You and I will be eating the same tonight, Koda...mine will be cooked, of course," he chuckled and my eyes widened.

My mouth dropped open as he started preparing a pan.

"You're a cannibal..." I breathed out softly, and then tilted my head curiously. I walked over to him, standing at his side to watch what he was doing.

I'm probably not nearly as disgusted with this newfound information as I should be.

I'm taking two things into account...he's a serial killer...and he also lived during the Great Depression. You never know what that could drive a person to do.

Not that he struggled during that time, but maybe there weren't any good meat or food items available.

Besides, what's the point in being mad about it anyway. It's not something I can change.

I watched as he started preparing the piece of meat, searing it in his pan. Immediately the smell made my mouth water and I threw my hand over my mouth.

What is wrong with me?!

I turned away from him, and walked over to the cat.

"Hi Dakota," I said softly, kneeling down next to her. She turned and looked at me, and I blinked.

"Can you...see me?" I asked her, slowly holding my finger out to her. She met me halfway, booping her nose against my finger. Unlike when Alastor touched me, she didn't faze through my body.

She meowed and I stared at her in amazement.

I guess animals really can see supernatural shit.

"Koda, what are you down there talking to?" Alastor asked and I looked over at him. I was still knelt down in front of her.

I looked back at Dakota and she was looking right at me. She meowed again.

Alastor chuckled.

"Koda, there's nothing there, silly cat," he chuckled softly, shaking his head. I smiled at her, a sly smile.

I held my finger to my lips in a 'shhhhh' motion and then stood back up. Just then I gasped again when my vision clouded once more.

I felt the air shift and blinked a few times. The room cleared and I was standing in the same spot I was when the vision started, the mop still in my hand.

I sighed softly and looked around the kitchen. Looking to the spot on the floor where Dakota had been I smiled softly.

Then, I just continued cleaning.

**

It was beginning to get late and Alastor still hasn't come back. I'm starting to think it's going to be one of those days where he stays away the entire night.

I hate those days.

I hate being stuck in this house by myself, stuck with the quiet.

I'm still cleaning here and there. I've been taking breaks throughout the day, but I don't really have anything else to do at this point.

I sat my step ladder down at the top of the stairs. There are some shelves up here that I can't reach without Alastor's help, and well, he's not here right now.

So Mr. Step Ladder will have to do.

I glanced over the side of the balcony and immediately regretted it. For some reason, instead of just having stairs, the second floor had a small balcony that overlooked the foyer.

Im scared of heights, so this isn't much fun for me.

I started to dust the shelves, and my mind wondered back to my vision from earlier.

Why didn't he tell me...?

Did he think I would be upset with him?

I mean, really, I already knew he was a serial killer. What more would it have been to tack on the fact that he's a cannibal, too.

Later when he gets back, I'll talk with him about it. Let him know that I know, and then I'm going to fuss at him for keeping it from me.

I wasn't paying attention to how far I'd been leaning to the side while I was lost in thought, and gasped as I suddenly lost my balance.

My leg bumped into the banister of the balcony, and I tried to grab onto something but there was nothing to grab.

My eyes widened and everything felt slow.

Oh my god.

No, this can't be it...I'm not about to die like this, I am not about to die like this...

My heart dropped as my body weight created a momentum, throwing me over the railing. I reached out as I fell, but there was nothing there.

There was nothing there to grab me.

I closed my eyes and waited to hit the floor 12 feet below.

My body did hit something...but it was soft. Warmth shrouded me along with a familiar scent, and slowly I opened my eyes.

I was met with the bright red eyes of none other than the demon I share a house with.

"Dear, do I need to hire a babysitter?"

I smiled sheepishly, just holding onto him. He was holding me bridal style, and he glanced up at where I'd fallen from.

"That would have been quite the nasty fall, peu d'amour..." he looked back at me with a playful smile, "if you wanted to see me so bad, you could have just called," he joked.

I scoffed and rolled my eyes, "oh save it, and what makes you think I'd go to hell anyways," I cocked an eyebrow at him and tried to hide my smile.

He looked up, beginning to walk towards the living room without putting me down. His fingers absentmindedly rubbed against my shoulder and he hummed.

"Well, for starters you are a brat," he said, and shot me a smirk, "and you're hot headed...you curse like a sailor, you don't go to church...uhhhh oh, and you regularly fraternize with one of the most powerful demons in all of hell," he finished, giving me a toothy smile before tossing me onto the couch.

"Did I miss anything?" He asked as he unceremoniously plopped down next to me, making me bounce and fall over into him.

I pushed up off of him, laughing, "yea, actually, you missed the 52 counts of premeditated murder," I joked and he looked at me quickly.

"I bed your pardon?" He asked and I laughed again.

"Kidding, kidding," I chuckled, and he scoffed.

"You'd better be...I'd be wounded if you went killing and didn't at least ask me," he said and I looked at him.

"You see, this is what separates us, I was joking," I pointed at myself, "and you are not," I pointed at him and poked him in the chest.

He bared his teeth at me in a large smile and growled and I did the same right back at him, except my growl was much less intimidating.

His smile softened and he reached up and touched my cheek, brushing his thumb under my eye. I leaned into his touch, letting my eyes close.

"Joking aside, dear, be more careful...I'm not always going to be right there," he said softly. I sighed and nodded.

"I know, I was just lost in thought," I replied and he hummed.

"Want to share?"

My eyes opened and I looked up at him, "yes, actually, but later. I'm hungry," I said and he chuckled.

"Well, then tell me what to make, darling, I'm yours to command."
