FINALLY SOME EXTENDED POV SWITCH BOUT DARN TIME
Andarin rode through the streets of Campel, winding his way steadily to the castle. He wanted to go see his family, but he determined that he'd better get straight to business. Before long, the castle loomed up before him. He announced himself to the guards and they let him pass. After leaving his spent horse with a stable hand, he made his way to the main hall where he thought it most likely to find Nynesi and the king. Before he reached it however, someone stopped him. It was his father.
"Andarin, my son, where have you been? The whole court is in uproar! What have you been doing?" Lord Dohmnall exclaimed as soon as he saw him.
hooooooooooooooooooo boy
Andarin was a little surprised to see his father, but he was more concerned by his father's words. The court was in uproar? Was it because Karayan was missing? He grasped his father's arm, "Father, I'm sorry I've been... absent these past few days, but some... important matters have come up. Could you please fill me in on what's been happening here? Why is the court in uproar? What's happened?" He asked.
why do u think, dear andarin?
His father sighed. He glanced around, then led Andarin into a small side room and closed the door after them. "There's a lot that's happened. Naksul Kenoshi is missing, and nobody seems to know where he is. Princess Nynesi is almost frantic. Apparently he said he was going to be gone for maybe a day, but he's been missing for almost eight. Also, Lord Heolstor has returned from Fasik with ill news, and he's concerned as to the whereabouts of his daughter." Lord Dohmnall sent Andarin a glance, "Since you're so close to her, I'm rather wondering if you know where she is."
Andarin was silent for a few minutes, digesting what his father had told him. He sighed, not sure how much he could reveal. Would it be safe to tell his father that he was harboring Karayan Batal at their own country estate? Did he know that Naksul Kenoshi was Karayan Batal? Lord Dohmnall was a sharp man, and knew more than he let on most of the time, and he well knew if his son's dealings and involvement with the Erglis, and their conflict with the Vanags. He knew that Kararayn Batal was the evil leader of the Vanags, so what would his reaction be if he knew that the wicked and bloodthirsty man was at his own house?
smart man knows more than he lets on trope. also andarin, don't tell your dad that karayan is at his house.
Andarin shook his head to clear it. "It's a lot to tell," He started. He took a deep breath. Did he trust his father? He'd been faithful with the information Andarin had given him so far, and he was a sharp and discerning man. Yes, Andarin decided that he trusted his father. So he told of all the things that had happened. From the encounter with Karayan and the Great Sorceress, her disownment of him, Miryanna's decision to step in and help, Andarin's idea that they could stay at the country estate. By the end of his tale, his father was... speechless.
you told him
At last he managed to get out: "Well, Andarin... That's fairy tale material there." He said absently. He gave a low whistle under his breath, "I don't know what to think. I guess it's better to be truthful with the king, and maybe his close councilors, and tell them what's happened and how it'll affect the kingdom."
i wouldn't call it fairy tale material. there were no quests, no fairies (gnomes don't count), there were no transformations, enchantments... okay there kinda were those, but there was no making six shirts of star flowers to disenchant your brothers who were turned into swans by your salty salty witch step-mom. (that's my favorite fairy tale next to the golden bird. i am also a big fan of the magic lamp). Also, do not tell the king that his daughter's fiance is karayan batal.
Andarin shook his head, "No, Alarick has stated that the king should be left out of this. Too many people might hear if it and start rumors, and things could go from bad to worse." Andarin protested.
Lord Dohmnall shrugged, "There's merit in secrecy, I guess. Well, if Alarick says to keep it hidden, then we'll keep it hidden. For now at least." He added.
Andarin smiled, "Thank you, father,"
Lord Dohmnall smiled, "I hope you can keep you lips sealed around Nynesi. She's been nearly frantic." He stood up and went to the door, Andarin with him.
Let me just say. Poor Nynesi
Andarin chuckled nervously. "Yeah, I think I can keep confidential what's meant to be kept confidential,"
"I certainly hope so." Lord Dohmnall replied.
They stepped out into the hall and continued talking. Lord Dohmnall filled him in on the politics and stuff. Apparently Fasik was getting tired of peace and wanted some excitement. And more power. They were on the verge of declaring war. They also determined what they could tell to Lord Heolstor about Miryanna. He hadn't seen his daughter in almost two years, and now he'd returned to find that she'd returned, and now was gone again. Frustrating to say the least.
yeah that kind of sucks. but also, consider, your daughter is an adult. but that does suck. also i really couldn't be bothered to make up a good reason for fasik to act they way it act
Andarin and his father had just turned a corner, when who should they run into but Nynesi herself.
"Oh, Andarin!" She cried and flung her arms about him. She disengaged the embrace, but still held his arms. "You've no idea how worried I've been about you! Have you heard? Naksul is missing! And so is Miryanna, and so were you, but you're back now. Do you know where Naksul is? Where's Miryanna?" Nynesi gushed out all these words so fast Andarin had to take a few seconds to decipher them.
why'd i have to go and make nynesi annoying? she deserved better than that
He put a comforting hand on her shoulder, "I don't know exactly where Naksul is," his conscience nagged him for lying. Andarin defended by thinking that he knew where Karayan was, but not where Naksul was. Oh shoot, they're the same person. Well who knows? Maybe Miryanna moved him? Ugh. "And I'm sure Miryanna's fine wherever she is." There, that wasn't a lie.
"So you know where she is?" Nynesi asked hopefully.
"N--No." There. That was a lie. Shame on you, Andarin. Lying to your friend.
Nynesi gave a mournful sigh. "I'm so worried. He never said he'd be gone this long, and he didn't tell me what he was doing. I'm worried that... Oh, I'm just worried." She finished shakily.
Andarin tried to smile, "Well, he seemed like a solid guy the few times I've met him. I'm sure he's fine." Agh, there was another lie! This really needed to stop.
betcha didn't know andarin cared so much about honesty. something that could have been covered if i did more pov switches and talking about actual characters being characters and having morals and ideas and habits and ugh whatever
