Wake-Up Call

The sunlight shone brightly onto Lumina's sleeping face. Slowly, her eyelids opened. She rolled onto her side, and looked over at the digital clock on her bedside table. Her eyes closed. No worries, she thought.

The door slowly creaked open. Eva stepped inside, stopping only for a moment at the sight of Lumina's gaping mouth with drool slowly dripping from her lips. "Oh. How cute," she whispered, and then tip-toed over.

She crouched beside Lumina's bedside and placed a hand on her sister's shoulder.

Lumina's eyes slowly slid open. The scent of cool mint mouthwash was heavy in the air. "Morning," she said as her eyes caught on Eva.

"Morning," Eva replied, rising. "So -" Eva clasped her hands together. "- what's the plan with only one week of work?"

Lumina shot up, smacking a palm to her forehead and sliding it down her face. She tore the covers from her body, and jumped out of bed. But, not before tripping on her covers first. She went down, her face catching the brunt of the wood floor, the healing burn rapidly throbbing again. "Uhg!" Lumina moaned.

Eva dropped to her side. "Are you alright?"

Lumina waved her away. "I'm fine. Just tripped over my stupid covers."

Eva laughed. "There's no way to avoid that when you just throw them off you."

Lumina got her knees and hands beneath her. With her feet, she was able to push herself up and off the floor. "Yeah. Yeah. I know."

Lumina headed for her dresser, flung open drawer after drawer, and sifted through her clothes before picking out a black Ground 2 T-shirt, a pair of jeans, and black socks.

"Hey. So, you never told me sis. What's the plan?"

Lumina turned around on her heels, making her way towards Eva. She clasped her on the back and started walking her towards the doorway. Lightly shoving her out - Lumina's hand on the door, ready to close it - she answered, "We're going to look for some recruits, and then we'll journey to the oxygen capsule."

"If it's even there."

"I have complete confidence that Soal is telling the truth."

"Even after that little outburst several years ago? You know she's the type of person to hold a grudge."

Lumina turned her head, a sad expression forming upon her facial features. "That is true. But her message seemed so real. So clear. So true. I can't risk being wrong." Lumina turned to meet Eva's gaze again. "I'm following through with the plan. I think it's time we returned home anyway."

Eva gave a nod and then walked down the hall to the living room.

Lumina closed the door.

She turned around. It better not be a lie Soal, she thought. I'm relying on you, my friend.
