Two Years And A Day

Lumina slept on the black futon within her workshop. Soal sat at the worktable, on the work stool, taping at a HoloBoard - basically a digital keyboard.

Soal cried out excitedly, her voice a little too high. She woke Lumina.

Lumina shot up, her head hitting a set of metal cabinets above her. Lumina's head collapsed back onto the pillow, the cabinets - thankfully empty - crashing down on top of her. Lumina groaned, an indescribable degree of pain catching in her upper body and trying to force itself out of her throat.

Soal flew from her seat and wrenched the empty cabinets from Lumina's body. Lumina's hand went to the spot where the pain emanated and softly rubbed it, wincing. It was right at her diaphragm.

"You alright?" Soal asked, tucking the row of cabinets beneath her arm.

Lumina waved a hand. "Fine," she responded a little angry that something as light as those cabinets caused her so much pain. "They just had to fall into the right place didn't they?"

Soal stifled a snicker, turning it into more of a deep throated groan. Lumina gave her a pained look. "Thank - you for your sympathy, Soal."

Sarcastically, Soal answered, "Your welcome."

Lumina rolled her eyes and stood up, her palm resting on top of the spot that now resonated with a dull stinging sensation. "Now what's going on over here?" she asked leaning over the LapPad Soal was working at.

"I finished coding the transporter for you."

Lumina sat back onto the workbench's stool in awe. Her hand fell from the middle of her chest and to the touchpad. She scrolled through the command prompt and grinned.

"Finally! Finally!"

Lumina jumped from her seat and gripped Soal so hard Soal couldn't breathe. "Thank-you! Thank-you! Thank - you Soal!!!"

Soal struggled to pat Lumina's back, but without air in her lungs or muscles, it was impossible. "You're welcome," was all she was able to get out.

Lumina realized what she'd been doing and let go. "I'm sorry." She turned her back, her eyes turning to the LapPad's monitor. She pressed the power button, it went on sleep, and Lumina tucked the paper-thin piece of technology under her arm.

Lumina sprinted for the exit, Soal at her heels.

The brown, rubber soles of Lumina's boots scuffed against the metal floor of the narrow, metal walled hallway that led to the same red door Lumina had found her crazy mother behind two years and a day ago. This time though, as she entered the gloomy darkness, she headed straight for the middle monitor in the second row of ten monitors. This, Lumina found, is where DESTINY's operating code is hidden.

Lumina plugged the LapPad into one of the open ports, awakened the black screen, clicked on file, and then transfer to local Interface Hub.

The prompt uploaded onto the monitor.
