Beezus

Beep. Beep. Beep. Bee-

I slammed my alarm clock off with an annoyed groan. I've never understood why they force us to get up so early for school. I mean, how are we supposed to function when we're so tired?

After laying there for a couple more minutes, wishing I could just go back to sleep, I finally willed myself out of bed and got dressed. I wore a white alien sweater, a pair of grey jeans, a yin yang choker and a pair of pink Dr Martens.

Once I was ready to take on the day, I left my bedroom - which used to belong to older sister, Teddy - and I went upstairs so I could go into the kitchen.

"Hey, sweetie." Mom greeted me as I sat down at the table, between Gabe and Toby who was in his high chair.

"Hey." I replied.

"Okay, kids, I need to get to work early and your dad's already left so PJ's taking you to school." Mom announced as she grabbed her handbag and it was only then that I realised she was in her work scrubs. She then kissed me, Gabe, Charlie and Toby goodbye on our foreheads before leaving out the back door. PJ then entered the kitchen as she left.

"Where's Mom?" He wondered as he grabbed a bottle of juice from the fridge.

"She just left for work, so you have to take us to school." I informed him, earning a groan from my eldest brother.

"Yeah, and I suggest you hurry up and finish that juice because class starts for me and Gabe in," I checked the time on my phone, "Twenty-five minutes." Even though we went to different schools, since Gabe went to high school and I was still in middle school, our class schedules were more or less the same.

"Okay, okay, come on, let's go, then." PJ downed the rest of his juice and grabbed his car keys. Gabe and I got up from the table and I lifted Toby out of his high chair while Gabe helped Charlie down from her seat. I then grabbed my black and white Aztec backpack and Gabe grabbed his bag before we followed PJ out to the car. We had to take Charlie and Toby with us because although they didn't start preschool/kindergarten until later on in the morning, we couldn't exactly leave them home alone while PJ took Gabe and I to school.

"I call shotgun!" I yelled, jumping in the passenger seat before Gabe had a chance.

"No fair! How come you get to sit up front?" Gabe whined.

"Because I got here first." I smirked at him through the open window.

"But I'm older." Gabe pouted.

"And yet here you are whining like a four year-old about where to sit in the car." I raised an eyebrow at him.

"Hey, what's wrong with being four?!" Charlie piped up and I couldn't help but smile at my adorable little sister. I'll admit, when Charlie was first born, I took a disliking to her because she took my place as the youngest, but now that I'm older and more mature, I love her to bits and I wouldn't trade her for the world.

"Come on, Gabe, just get in the back so I can get you two to school; Mom and Dad will kill me if you're late." PJ ordered and Gabe huffed, rolling his eyes before getting in the back, having to crawl into the middle between Charlie and Toby's car seats. Since my middle school was closer than Gabe's high school, we got there first with five minutes to spare before class started.

"Good luck getting to school on time." I laughed at PJ and Gabe who just glared at me as I swung my backpack over my shoulder and got out the car. I walked into school and went straight to my locker, not stopping to talk to anyone. I wasn't the most popular in school. I mean, I had acquaintances that I would maybe stop and talk to on the way to class and I could usually find someone who was willing to sit with me at lunch, but I didn't really have any proper friends. I didn't mind, though, I'd never really been a social butterfly.

Once I was done at my locker, I began making my way to homeroom, but being my clumsy old self, I managed to bump into someone on the way there.

"Oh, shoot, sorry, that was my fault." I apologised, picking up the piece of paper I'd caused them to drop. I looked up to see who it was and saw a girl. She was gorgeous, to put it simply. She had fair skin and deep blue eyes and her face was framed elegantly by wavy, blonde locks.

"No, it was totally my fault. I should've been looking where I was going instead of looking at this stupid schedule," She insisted, "Thanks." She added with a smile when I handed it back to her.

"Are you new here? It's just, I don't think I've ever seen you around." I claimed.

"I am, actually," She nodded, "It's my first day and I'm kind of having trouble finding my way around. I don't suppose you could tell me where Mrs Watson's class is?"

"Do you have her for homeroom?" I wondered and the girl nodded while I grinned, "Then you're in luck; I have her for homeroom, too. I can walk you, if you like?"

"That would be great, thank you," She smiled gratefully as we started walking, "I'm Summer, by the way.

"I'm Beezus." I replied, "I know, it's a weird name."

"No, no, it's not, not at all," She shook her head, "In fact, it's really pretty and unique."

"Thanks." I giggled and for some reason felt myself blushing slightly.

"Is it short for everything?"

"Uh, yeah, Beatrice."

"Just as pretty." Summer told me with a grin and I smiled back at her as we arrived at Mrs Watson's class.
