The Streets of Aureros
"Yes," She breathed.
"Yes?" A wide smile spread across Lucas' face.
Aurelia nodded, quickly. Suddenly she felt like she was going to burst with joy.
"Yes! Yes! Yes!"
Everything else was left behind. Their plan, Mr. Gold, Lucas becoming king, none of it mattered right now. All that mattered was that she was in love with him and that she was marrying her best friend.
Lucas quickly leapt to his feet, his blue eyes shining. He offered the ring back to Aurelia. She held out her hand and he slipped it on her finger, where it would rest permanently.
Lucas cupped her face, blushing profusely. "Uh can I- can I kiss you?" He asked.
Aurelia nodded. He was adorable. She placed her hands on his.
"Yes," She told him, for what seemed like the hundredth time in the past five minutes.
He pressed his lips on hers. They were soft like pink velvet. Two pairs of eyes fluttered shut. It was a furious, soft passion in one motion. Her lips tasted like vanilla, pure and sweet. She smelled like it too. Along with the scent of old novels, which they both shared. She ran her hands along his arms until she reached his hair. She played with it, before cupping his face too.
They broke apart, breathing in each other's scent. Aurelia still smelled like the flour from the mill despite the fact that she hadn't been there in weeks. Along with that there were her beloved books and the elegant aroma of vanilla that lingered. Lucas too smelled like books, along with fresh grass and salty sea air. They beamed at each other.
"I think the past couple weeks would have been a bit more fun if we had started doing that earlier." Lucas joked.
Aurelia rolled her eyes. He had just enough time to catch his breath again before she grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and pulled him into another kiss that left his head spinning.
"I hope we'll be doing that more often."
"I'm sure we will." Aurelia bit her lip, still smiling.
***
The next morning Aurelia had no complaints about getting out of bed. It was August 1st, her eighteenth birthday.
She had slept at the castle in the room she had stayed in weeks back. It had been too late for her to go home last night. It had gotten dark while she was talking to Lucas and navigating across Aureros in the dark wasn't a great idea.
Aurelia knew exactly what she wanted to do to celebrate. She wanted to visit the town and more importantly her family. She hadn't seen either in far too long.
There was a familiar and light knocking at the door. It was the exactly three taps on the door. She'd recognize it anywhere.
"Come in, Luke." She grinned.
On cue the brown haired prince appeared in her doorway. He immediately began grinning as soon as he saw her.
"So," He leaned against the doorway.
"So?" She smiled.
"What's the plan for today?" Lucas asked.
"Well I'm going into town. It's about time I visited my family. And I absolutely cannot postpone it any longer." Aurelia pulled on a pair of shoes as she spoke.
"Mind if I join you?" Lucas wondered, scratched the back of his head.
"Of course I don't mind... But are you sure you want to? You'll have to meet my parents." Aurelia grabbed her dark green cloak and tied it around her neck.
"Seeing as I'm marrying you in a week I think I should probably meet your family beforehand." Lucas shrugged.
"And ask for permission?" Aurelia teased.
Lucas gulped. "Uh..."
Aurelia laughed. She passed him in the doorway and left a soft kiss on his cheek.
"Come on. Grab your cloak and we can go."
***
"Where to first?" Lucas wondered as they strolled through the streets of Aureros. He wore a navy cloak, the hood pulled over his head, so he wouldn't draw unwanted attention to himself.
"Hmm... The bookstore? I haven't been there in forever." Aurelia suggested.
"Sounds good to me." Lucas smiled. Books were always welcome in his opinion. Large shops where an array of novels should sit was no different. He approved.
Mr. Weston's shop didn't seem to have changed in the month since Aurelia had seen it. It was still comfortable and airy, if a bit cluttered. The miller's daughter thought back to her last visit to the shop. She had been so excited just make a few coins. It seemed like a lifetime ago.
The shopkeeper looked up at the chime of a bell, which rang as the door was pushed open.
"Welcome!" The man smiled. He had graying brown hair and wore round spectacles to cover aging silver eyes.
Aurelia let her hold fall and she waved to the man. "Hi, Mr. Weston! I'm-"
"Aurelia Miller! You've given everyone quite a fright! You won't believe the rumors that are flying around about you, miss." Mr. Weston scolded. His eyes narrowed, still holding a softness to them.
"Oh you'll be surprised by what I'll believe now." Aurelia joked. Lucas chuckled. Mr. Weston folded his arms, authoritatively. Aurelia withered under his gaze. "Sorry."
Mr. Weston's look softened. "Well I'm glad to have you back safety, miss. You'd better get going to your parents."
"Of course, Mr. Weston." Aurelia smiled.
They decided it would be best if they explored the shop more another time.
"Have you ever been to Cameron's Bakery?" Aurelia asked, considering dragging Lucas to one more stop before home.
"Isn't that that bakery from the vision?" Lucas questioned, eying the place with suspicion.
Aurelia nodded. "They make the best cupcakes! And brownies! And-"
Lucas laughed. "I think I get it."
Aurelia hadn't readjusted the hood of her cloak, so immediately she gained the attention on the lone man behind the counter. It appeared to be s slow day.
"Miss 'Realia, you've been missing for a quite a bit." George Bakery commented.
Aurelia scratched the back of her head. "Yeah... I had something I needed to do."
George eyed her curiously. "Strange that. Not my business though. What can I get for you today?" He leaned on the counter.
"I was just telling my fiancé how amazing your cupcakes are." Aurelia shot a grin at Lucas. He smiled under his hood.
"Fiancé, eh?" George raised an eyebrow, grabbing two chocolate cupcakes. "Girl disappears for a month and reappears with a fiancé. Well I'll be darned."
Aurelia shrugged, sheepishly. "Yeah..."
"Well here you go. Two chocolate cupcakes on the house. It is your eighteenth after all. Now you best get a move on before you get hounded by my customers. The lunch rush is about to start. I'm sure you don't want to stick around for that." George advised, handing the two cupcakes.
"I guess you have a point." Aurelia said. She thanked George and dragged Lucas out the door.
"What did he mean by 'your eighteenth'?" Lucas wondered, before biting into his cupcake. Chocolate frosting left a brown mustache above his lip.
"Oh that? It's my eighteenth birthday today." Aurelia replied, casually. She looked up to see his chocolate stain and burst out laughing.
"Why didn't you tell me earlier?" Lucas asked, oblivious to the chocolate.
"It's not a big deal-"
"It is definitely a big deal. You're eighteen." Lucas licked his lip, smudging the chocolate.
Aurelia giggled. "You've got something on your lip."
"Hmm?" Lucas wiped his mouth. "Did I get it?"
Aurelia nodded. "Yeah, good thing too. We're here!"
