The Golden Statue

"Prince Nyel, are you feeling alright?" Aurelia wondered, trying to question his sanity in the most polite way possible.

"You think I'm crazy." Nyel shook his head.

"No offense but saying that that inanimate statue is your sister doesn't exactly come of as sane." Lucas crossed his arms.

"You don't know." Nyel shook his head. "You haven't heard the legends."

"What legends?" Serenity's sky colored eyes twinkled with curiosity.

Lucas groaned. "Don't fill her head with more fairy tales. She already has trouble discerning fantasy from reality." He went mostly unnoticed as the girl's both were curious about the legends.

"Legends?" Aurelia grew excited.

"Yes," He said, before stating another fantastical statement like the earlier. "My father can turn things to gold."

Aurelia looked between Serenity and Lucas. Even the most open minded of the three looked skeptical. Serenity wanted believe Nyel but even she couldn't stretch her beliefs that far. Aurelia mentally kicked herself for what she did next.

"I believe you."

Everyone stared at her. Serenity is polite surprise, Nyel in complete shock at being believed, and Lucas in disbelief.

"You do?" Both Lucas and Nyel gasped, in completely different tones.

"Gold is a very mysterious and mystical property. I've seen strange things happen with the material with my own eyes. It may seem a little unnatural but I believe you." Aurelia sighed. She looked at the blinding palace. "Plus you have a freaking castle made from gold."

"Wow, people don't generally believe me." Nyel smiled. "Thank you."

Luke's mouth hung open in surprise. Aurelia decided to ignore him, with a smile.

"How'd he get this mysterious gift?" Aurelia wondered. She was quite curious as she had seen straw transformed into gold and this would be a very similar power.

"He made a deal with the devil." Nyel hissed. "Okay not the literal devil but did Father acquired his powers through suspicious means. It was over a year ago."

"Wait..." Aurelia began slowly. "Do you know what your father did? Who he made a deal with?" She had a sneaking suspicion.

"He called himself Gold. I know because that's the name my father now curses." Nyel glared at no one in particular. It was just the thought that caused him to scowl.

Lucas and Aurelia shared a look of shock. Gold...

"Well... Have you tried a logical solution to the problem?" Aurelia wondered.

"What do you mean? We've tried doctors and magicians and-"

"Have you tried using the plants in this garden?" Aurelia wondered.

"What could they do?" Nyel couldn't keep the hope out of his voice.

"Let's just say... I might be able to make you a cure." Aurelia smirked. She looked at Lucas, remembering when he had made a cure for her.

Luke stared at her in shock. Was she completely insane?
