True Name, Venti
Venti x Reader
Soulmate AU
☆An AU where nobody knows the true name of anyone, except for their very own name and their soulmates, the latter revealed to them the day they fall in love☆
Venti had this idea one day to join a reality game show purposed in finding love. He was only doing it for fun. The first episode was aired, and each participant was given a mask and told to sit down. The lights are dim and the host Rama Shich starts it up.
"Welcome, lovers in disguise." Venti is seated between two tall dividers along with the other participants, only able to see Rama and the audience.
"The purpose of this show is to hopefully help us drop the mask of our own names and reveal our soulmates... We'll see if we can. The first mission is to get to know each other and quite literally, drop the mask." He gives a glance to the audience and they laugh. Venti felt excited, no sign of anxiety in his body at all. He didn't know himself well enough, he didn't know why things were the way they were, and as far as he could tell, all he needed was a little fun to get him back on his feet. The dividers were removed and Venti was met with three other males and four other ladies. Every face concealed by a mask. The first step of the game was meeting the others. They were lead to separate rooms, the boys stationed in them while the ladies would rotate through them. They would have two minutes to chat.
The first girl came in and sat on the stool across from Venti's. She wore a green, purple, and red mask that only revealed her bottom lip and chin. Ventis mask was reddish orange that faded into a pink. None of his face was revealed except for a singular hole for his nose to breathe. The lady introduced herself as China Chain. Venti thought she was alright. He was crazy for the second girl who wore a green and blue and gray mask. By the time his second meeting was up he went to get a sip of water from the table behind him, lifting off his mask for a split second as he faced the wall. When he turned around he saw the third lady was already there seated on her stool across from Venti's. He flinched a little and said, "Oh, didn't hear you come in." The girl nodded and uttered a, "Sorry..." shyly. Venti was taken aback by her quiet nature. The other two so far weren't like her. Her mask was black, and purple at the sharp edges by her right brow and slightly under her eyes like eyeliner. It revealed her right cheek and when she spoke Venti could only see the corner of her lips peeking out. He observed her for just a second before taking his seat.
"Don't worry about it." He waved his hand.
"So what's your name?" He asks.
"Aine... Aine Meadow..." She said softly. The moment you hear someone say their name, you wonder if it's their real one. Venti didn't quite believe in that stuff, but apparently you'll know the real name of your soulmate when you fall in love with them, and no one else can hear their true name being spoken. Just you and them. He introduced himself next.
"I'm Xan Erix." He says.
"Nice to meet you, Xan..." She says and Venti notices the corner of her mouth is curved up slightly. He tilts his head as he watches her leave for the next interview. Her beautiful yet mysterious presence slowly diminishing. Wow... Venti thought but then he snapped himself out of it.
Quite fooling around, Venti! After the fourth interview they made their way back to the center stage for a would you rather game. He found himself listening intently to the quiet girls answers, but didn't make note of it until later.
"Alright folks, that's all for today on Your Name the Love Show! See you tomorrow!" Ramas voice rang throughout the room as he dismissed everyone.
The next day they did challenges together. The stage emitted a low purple light as the game show usually did. Venti got put with China for the first challenge, which was to paint your ideal soulmate while also making it look like your partner. He was surprised the way his drawing came out. A girl surronded by pink and black, she had a kind heart that shone through her clothes, she felt silly, yet reserved. He also added a few music notes in the pink and black that surrounded her. But the mask she wore belonged to China Chain due go instructions. As Rama made his way through the paintings Venti hears the crowd get especially loud for one and when he turns to see what the commotion was all about he sees it was Aines painting. He looked at it for a second with wonder. It was a youthful and healthy looking boy, while still closely resembling her partner. He appeared to be laughing and there was something proud and high status about him. Seems she's looking for a dream... Venti thought to himself. The next challenge he was put with Carla Mint, the fourth girl he met. It was a boat paddling competition. He got on and helped Carla, but something caught his attention. The mysterious black masked girl was partnered with a dark skinned man named Aaron Bethamarox and he was trying to help her onto the boat. She shook her head and wouldn't move a muscle. Venti watched and subconsciously thought, I wish I could take her hand and show her there's nothing to fear... When he processed what he had just thought he quickly averted his eyes back to Carla. She sat down next to him but Venti's thoughts were still loud. I've always been a helpful person... that's all this is... He reassured himself as he watched Rama Shich try to comfort her and he sat her down.
After the challenges each contestant would vote in private which girl/boy they liked best. Venti was about to vote for Aine Meadow but he didn't want to get too attached to her, so he voted for the extroverted and trendy China Chain. He thought that was a safe option.
The next night would be unmasking yourself infront of each girl. The evening started at 6:15 pm and they went to a restaurant for it. This time ladies were stationed at tables and the men would rotate. It was getting quite dark out now and it was finally his last unmasking. The stars shone brightly as soft music played from the stereo. He sees Aine Meadow sitting at her table and she looks up at him with her black mask. Venti waves and says,
"We meet again, Aine." She nods and says, "Yeah, we have." As he sits down. The purple flower in the vase matching her mask nicely. Venti only knew her favourite colour and a brief description on her household family members. All she knew about him was that he liked singing and playing instruments, and that he was an only-child.
"How has your evening been?" She asked in her unique voice Venti found himself quite fond of.
"Ahh, if I'm being honest it's been so-so... I only joined this for fun, you know." He said the last part quietly in a teasing voice. She laughed just a little, but it was enough to make Venti feel like he accomplished something and he found himself grinning like a fool, thankful for the mask.
"Yeah... me too actually... My family thought it would be a cool idea." She says shyly. Venti had an idea pop into his head.
"How about we take our masks off on the count of three?" He suggested. Her dark mask stared back at him, then a little, "Sure." Left her lips. She brought her fingers to her mask, causing Venti to say, "Hold on, let's leave it 'till a little later." She pauses for a second then lowers her hands.
"Ahh, sorry, sorry. I'm probably mixing you up." Venti apologizes with an awkward laugh.
"It's alright." She said.
"Before I see your face I want to know you better." Venti says. He took mental note on how he behaved different with this girl than the others.
"Like..." He thought of something to say.
"Do you believe in all this soulmate stuff?" He asked. She shrugged slightly and he found himself generally interested in to know her opinion.
"I don't know... kind of?... But I think it's more true than not true. My parents say it happened to them. But of course I can't hear them say each others real names so who knows if it's true or not?..." She explained and Venti nodded.
"Yeah... What's so special about a name anyways? Does it really matter if I know someone's real name?" He voices his thoughts. He could tell she was smiling when she said, "Who knows?" He relaxed for a moment in her company.
"Ehe... this is the first time I've talked about this with somebody other than my bearded dragon, Dvalin." He laughed. He couldn't help but feel happy when she laughed too.
"Alright then, ready?" He questioned standing up.
"Yeah..." She said, standing up as well.
"Okay..." He replied bringing his hands up to his mask.
"Three... two... one." He peeled it off but she had hesitated for a moment and her black mask stared back at him, concealing her emotions. Only a second later she pulled away hers... Venti was starstruck. He hadn't expected that he was talking to an incarnation of a goddess. Her gorgeous eyes had their place on him for a few seconds before an alarm sounded and she looked to where it was coming from. Rama Shich ordered people around shouting,
"There's been a fire in the kitchen! Come this way!" He waves them over.
"Come on!" Aine grabs Venti's wrist pulling him along, but avoids looking at him. They quickly escaped the scene.
"Is everyone alright?" Mr. Rama Shich asks. They all nod.
"Good good... everyone got their unmasking done?" They all nod again.
"Great, we'll see you eight in the next two days. Get your rest." He says good naturedly. Everyone went home. Venti was stuck thinking about Aine for the rest of the evening. He thought she was so beautiful.
The next day would be deciding if you wanted to stay or leave the show. When Venti got there the stage was set up with a podium for Rama Shich and four chairs to his left and right, going outward slightly. Venti took a seat on the right side next to the other men and he watched Aine make her way to her seat. When she looked up at him he quickly looked away, heart speeding. Tch... it's just a little crush or something... Venti thinks to himself. Everyone arrived so the cameras started up.
"Hello everyone and welcome to Your Name the Love Show! Today is a so-called elimination round where contestants have the choice to stay on the show or say goodbye. I'm your host Rama Shich, so sit back, relax and enjoy today's episode." He says and the audience claps and cheers.
"We'll start with the boys for this round." Rama announces as he turns his head to face the men.
"Mr. Darvyn Pear, you have a decision to make. Will you stay in hopes to find love and further relationships or end your journey here?" Rama asks. Darvyn's silent for a moment, then he looks over to the audience, then to the girls.
"I... I think I'm going to stay!" He announces. The crowd cheers and applauds, and Venti catches the look of relief on Carla's face.
"Well how 'bout that." Rama says with a smile and pats Darvyn's shoulder.
"Viktas." He goes to the next man. Viktas being a charmer looks to the audience with a little wink, and the crowd goes crazy.
"I'm staying as well!" The light brown skinned boy says.
"I'm proud of you, Vik." Rama smiles. He comes over to Venti now. Venti wasn't too sure what he was going to say. It all depends on one thing.
"Ahh, Xan Erix, what will it be for you?" Venti sat there trying to get his mind organized. He could only hope.
"I've... I've chosen to stay." He says in a clear voice. Everyone cheers.
"Very fine answer there." Mr. Rama Shich says and everyone laughs.
"Ehe." Venti let's out, but he was nervous on the inside. Hopefully Aine will stay... He finds himself thinking. He doesn't know why he's taken such a liking to her. The last boy, Aaron, decides that he's done with his time on the show.
"Ladies, it is now your turn to decide! I'm sure we are all curious to know your answers, so tell us, Deagan. Is it a yes or no?" Deagan, the girl Venti wasn't too fond of only waits a second before looking up to Rama and giving a loud clear, "No." into his microphone. He makes a pouty face and says, "We'll miss you dearly." So then he goes to the next girl, Aine...
"Miss Meadow... take your time." Rama says and Venti gulps, anxiety filling him. She's silent for a long while and Venti only allows himself to glance at her for a second.
"I... I think I'm done for now..." Rama frowns but something stirs in Venti, something passionate and immature. He registers the fact that he will probably never see her again if she leaves, and for some reason that deeply disturbs him. He finally allows himself to look at her and without thought shouts, "Don't go Y/N!" His eyes widen, his heart stopped, and a look of shock covers him. He stares at her stupefied and she stares back at him, mouth slightly open in surprise. Everyone's quiet for a second and he wonders if they could hear it too, that he just said her name. Her real name.
"You... You said my name..." Y/N says hesitantly, a whisper, but Rama's mic picks it up and a silence takes over the whole audience, then like fire the situation spread to them, and they go berserk.
"WOOO! AHHHH! Wow!!!" Whistles and cheers and Rama wears a smile as he looks to Venti, then to Y/N. The other boys look at Venti but he felt frozen in time, unable to move. I said her name... He thinks to himself in a daze.
"Well Aine, has your answer changed now?" She still looks stunned, but manages to say, "I... I guess I'll stay." Everyone cheers loudly with intense excitement as Venti looks at her silently, their eyes connecting. She's staying.
After the show Rama makes his way to Venti. "Congratulations, Xan." He says good-heartedly. In reality Rama loved touching moments like these. Venti smiles and nods.
"Thank you." He expresses. In the distance Venti catches Y/N walking away so he rushes over to her side.
"Hey...!" He places his hand on her arm and she turns around to look at him.
"Uh... hi..." She says shyly. All of Venti's senses go to his hand on her arm and he quickly lets go, face turning a little red.
"I uh... about that on stage... sorry." He gets out. She looks at him confused.
"For what?" She asks.
"Um, for you know...shouting your name across the stage and telling you to stay... You can probably go tell Rama and get it organized if you think you chose the wrong choice." Venti suggests. He observes everything about her now. No mask to hide her from him anymore. She is even more beautiful than he remembered and he can feel his face getting warm again.
"I... don't want to go..." She says softly. Venti's heart speeds up and he keeps telling himself not to get attached.
"You don't?..." He asks. She just silently shakes her head. A small smile appears on his lips.
"Oh."
The rest of the show lasts another week and a half. Venti has managed getting closer to Y/N, but the real magic happens when cameras aren't on them. They basically talk behind the stage the whole time they have, Venti deeply engaged in her. She offered to share numbers and Venti was so happy to know that she wanted to keep talking with him. They often spoke late at night after the show was done, and the next day they'd get there tired, but never failed to do their best in the activities. Venti had given her a treat and in return she brought him a homemade cupcake, just little things like this made them so much closer.
The time came when the show was finishing.
"Congratulations to our lasting couples! China and Viktas, and Xan and Aine!" He holds his arm out to the two couples and the audience cheers. As far as Venti knew China and Vik were not soulmates, but they got along well enough to continue together.
"Thank you for tuning in, that'll be all for Your Name the Love Show! Have a great night folks!" Rama shakes each participants hand and behind stage he gives them prize money of $100 dollars for being one of the final couples.
Venti quickly finds Y/N at the table carrying styrofoam cups full of water.
"Y/N." He taps her shoulder and she turns around, smiling when seeing the boy.
"I made you a gift... like a token of this game." He says pulling out a little poem he wrote for her. She takes the card smiling widely then pulls him against her.
"You didn't have to!" She says and pulls away.
"But I wanted to." He says.
"Wow... thanks a lot!" She says and silently reads the card, her face turning a light pink, then a little darker. Venti watches her and she suddenly makes a confused face, squinting at the card.
"With love," She reads aloud. He wondered if he wrote something wrong.
"Venti Barbatos..." The name leaves her lips and she quickly looks up at him, eyes wide with realization. Venti froze remembering that he did sign his name, but not his true name.
"That's... a beautiful name." She says looking up at him smiling, a blushing mess. Y/N had officially fallen in love with the boy who stood in front of her, the one who couldn't stop grinning that his soulmate had just said his name. Their lives were connected by fate.
A year later they got engaged. Y/N was 20 and Venti 22. Venti suddenly understood the power of knowing someone's name. The honour it was to be the only one calling her that. And anytime he heard, "Xan!" He'd look knowing who it wouldn't be, but when he heard, "Venti." His heart would feel a tug as warmth spread through him, knowing it was Y/N and only Y/N calling for him, seeking his attention.
"Y/N?" He'd ask turning to look at the one he loved the most.
They'd have a good time picking wind-blooms together, and he'd sneak in a kiss or two there, as their marriage awaited them.
