Chapter 4
When I had gotten home, I walked through the door of my one roomed house, just enough for me and the few things I had. The house was small and wood paneled, two windows in the front, one on the side inside the bedroom and one in the bathroom leading out the back. The kitchen was small and the living room had enough room for one tattered brown couch. I wasted no time getting ready.
I changed out of my training clothes, throwing them into the corner that had been notoriuosly labled as 'I'll get a basket when I can'. I took a quick shower to clear off the days sweat and to preoccupy my mind with how to get into the meeting undetected.
When I got out I put my long brown hair into a braid, putting on jeans and a long sleeve shirt. I decked myself out in knives and wepons, even if they weren't made of Elfin steel I would still do some damage to anyone in my path in case I couldn't reach my sword in time.
I had sat down and started polishing the sword that never seemed to need sharpening, waiting for Jordan to show up.
It didn't take long before he knocked on my door and now we were here, riding throught the forest on the way to Aranis.
When we made it to the village, we had stopped on the outskirts to tie our horses to a tree and walked to my family's house. On the short walk I noticed the village was quiet in an eerie way and I didn't see anyone in sight.
"Jordan, I want you to go check on the town. Check city hall for survivors that's where they would be held up. Move them out of here and send them to the next town quickly. Meet me back at my family's and we'll get them out." He nodded once and ran towards city hall.
Walking up to my old house was filled with only my footsteps in the night and I was surprised to see my mother sitting on the porch in the moonlight. I ran into her arms and hugged her.
"Mother! We need to get everyone out of here the Inibrius are com-"
"Hush now Lillian. The rest of the town is gone already."
I was confused. Who told them? Why was my mother still here?
"Mother, why are you here if everyone else is gone?"
There was a sad look in her eyes. "Lil, that's not what I meant... They're gone. The Inibrius are here waiting for the elves," she paused and my eyes matched hers, filling with tears, "They've already killed everyone."
"Lilly!"
I turned to see Jordan running towards me, a group of shadows not far behind.
"I need you to listen to me, Lil. There's so much you don't know," she tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, "You need to run now. It's you, my little star, it's always been you. Everything will work out just run and promise me you won't stop until you're back in Netheria."
"Mother stop! We need to leave. Get Father and Rose and we have horses over the-"
"No Lil, they... your father's gone and Rose is-."
I felt sadness and anger running through my veins but my face-my face was as calm as I could manage. My mother didn't need to see that especially since I couldn't save them in time. I didn't make it.
I turned to see Jordan running up the stairs to me.
"Lilly we need to leave. Everyone's dead and the Inibrius are here."
I turned back to my mom and I started freaking out. My mother wasn't there anymore.
"Mother?! Mother!" I searched around frantically and jumped off the stairs followed by Jordan who grabbed my arm and turned me around.
"We need to go now Lilly! What are you doing?!" I ripped my arm from him and ran into the house, ignoring the impending danger of the Inibrius that were coming towards us.
"My mother! I was just talking to her where'd she go?!" I ran into the house and once again I found my body paralized in shock.
"Lilly you weren't talking to anyone. There wasn't anyone-"
He stopped and stared at the same scene that made the blood in my veins stop. My heart was going wild and tears were coming out of my eyes.
The smell of blood was overwhelming and I wanted to close my eyes.
I was in a strange zombie like state before my brain caught up and I ran.
I ran out the house and towards the woods. My feet carried me to the leafy sanctuary. Sword bouncing against me meant nothing, I lost track of Jordan, not sure if he was following. I wasn't even sure I was breathing until I ran into a tree and fell down.
If I wasn't so out of it, I would have noticed that the tree had arms and a face. Whoever he was didn't bother me. Nothing reached my mind except this sight of all the blood. I wouldn't have cared if it was the most vicious of the Inibrius in front of me, they were dead.
"Be quiet, little human you're going to lead them straight to us . This is why we made sure the humans didn't come. You and your friend should have stayed."
I looked up into the eyes of the prince, that seemed to glow silver in the light of the moon filtering through the trees. His voice was angry and just added fuel to the fire in my soul. I stood up, schooling my face and wiping the few years that has managed to escape away.
In one moment I heard Jordan running up, panting behind me. The next the Prince looked behind me and I took that moment to swing.
My fist hit its mark.
I was back on the ground, a sword pointed at my neck with the prince wiping blood from his lip. He looked furious.
But man, it felt good.
