Back to Stage One (Chapter Twenty-Seven)
"What do you mean?" you croaked.
"I mean, somebody knocked on the door and said, 'This is the police, we just want to ask you a few questions,' " Foxy replied.
"And you didn't answer it?"
"No, I didn't know what to do," Foxy confessed.
"It's probably just a prank," you mentioned, mostly trying to convince yourself.
"I don't know, they sounded pretty serious," Foxy fretted, scratching the back of his neck.
"I'll go check it out. Stay around the corner, and just . . . act normal. Okay?"
"Okay."
You looked back at Freddy and he looked at you fearfully. You walked out of the bathroom with Freddy following you. Foxy and Freddy went around the corner. Them, Bon-Bon, Baby, and Ballora, peeked out at you. You shooed them off and they went back. You opened the door, to see that a police officer was waiting in the hallway.
"Hello, ma'am. Sorry to disturb you at this time," he said, looking down at what you were wearing.
"Oh, that's fine. Um, is there a problem, officer?" you wondered, hoping he wasn't going to mention anything about what you did.
"Well, there's been a report of a robbery and car theft. And the car that's been stolen is in the parking lot. I've asked around and have been told that you were seen exiting that car. Do you know anything about that?" the man asked.
'Piss,' you thought.
"What car?" you asked, trying to buy time to think of an excuse.
"It's a Gold Cadillac SUV," the officer explained.
"Oh, that one. Um . . . There was a guy on the top floor that let me borrow it for a few. I gave it back to him, afterwards. So, now he's got the keys to it," you lied, although your poker face convinced him otherwise.
"Do you know his name?" the officer asked.
"He didn't tell me. I mean, he was offering me a Cadillac, so I didn't really question him about it," you told him.
"What about his room number?"
"We met in the elevator."
"Well, okay, then. I'll look around for him. Thank you, ma'am, have a good night," the officer said.
"You too," you replied.
The man walked back to the elevator and you smiled at him as he turned and waved. You shut the door and frowned. You ran to the suitcase and rummaged through it. You grabbed the drawstring bag and put your shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and charger, in it. You ran into the bathroom.
"What's going on?" Freddy wondered.
You grabbed your toothbrush, toothpaste, and brush, and put them into the bag. You grabbed your clothes that were on the floor--your pants had your phone and wallet in it--and put them in as well.
"(Y/N)?" Foxy snapped.
"Do you guys remember the first night that we were . . . these ghost things, and Baby figured out that normal things--like, having to eat or clean ourselves--don't affect us while nobody or a specific person can see us?" you wondered.
"Yes," Ballora said.
"Well, you guys are going to have to do that for a while. Are you guys able to morph into different clothes?"
"I don't know, I'll try," Foxy volunteered
Foxy thought for a moment and morphed into a glowing orb. Then, he changed into himself, but in his normal clothes. Foxy looked down at himself, impressed.
"Now, are you able to change back into your pajamas?" you asked.
"I should."
Foxy did the same thing and morphed back into his pajamas. He looked at his outfit in disgust and you smiled softly at him. He sighed and crossed his arms.
"What's going on?" he demanded.
"I'll explain in the car," you mumbled.
You grabbed your shoes and opened the door. Everyone looked at you peculiarly, and you ushered them out.
"Why do you only have that one bag?" Bon-Bon asked.
"Oh, you guys want me to get your stuff too?"
You closed the door and went into the bathroom. You grabbed everyone's toothbrushes, toothpastes, and brushes, and put them into the bag.
"I mean, why aren't you bringing your suitcase?"
"It'd look too suspicious. We need to leave quickly, though. It won't be long until that officer figures out that I was lying."
You opened the door and everyone followed you. Once everyone was out, you closed the door and slid the keycard halfway under the door. Everyone followed you to the elevator and you pressed the button. When the elevator doors opened, you got in and pressed the first-floor button. You and the rest waited until the elevator doors opened back, then walked down the hall and out the doors. The woman at the front desk didn't seem to notice you, as she was too engulfed in her phone.
"You could've totally brought your suitcase. That woman wouldn't have noticed," Foxy griped as you and the rest walked to the car.
"We don't have enough time," you said, looking at the cop car parked at the entrance.
You opened the front door and made it seem as if you were searching for something. When you stood back, Freddy hopped in and you shut the door. You opened the back doors and stepped back. While Baby, Ballora, and Foxy, piled in, you looked into the car. You shut the door and walked around to the driver's side. You got in and started the car, quickly driving off and onto the road.
"Where are we going?" Freddy whispered.
"I don't know, for sure, yet," you mumbled.

"What are we doing?" Baby asked as you pulled the car over into a gas station.
"We're walking from here," you replied as you parked.
"What?" Foxy snapped.
"If I leave the car here, the police won't be able to track where I am as easily," you told him.
You turned off the car and unbuckled, everyone doing so as well. You took all the money and the cards out of your wallet and placed it on the dashboard.
"What are you doing?" Freddy wondered.
"I'm leaving all the money here. That way they won't have more of a reason to come find me," you explained.
"Ugh," Foxy groaned.
"Also, we need to crawl out the windows."
"Seriously!" Foxy complained.
"It'd be weird as fuck if the cameras see the doors open and close and nothing comes out," you told him.
Foxy growled as you rolled down all the windows. You sat in the window and pulled out your legs. You slid out as everyone did the same as you. You grabbed the bag and put it under your shirt. That way the cameras didn't see a floating bag.
Everyone followed you as you started down the side of the road. Foxy kicked a couple rocks as he huffed. Baby pulled on Ballora's tutu and she looked down at her. Baby put up her arms and stuck out her lip. Ballora sighed and picked Baby up, holding her on her hip and continuing to walk. Bon-Bon looked up at Freddy, full of worry, and Freddy returned the look.
"What are we doing?" Freddy uttered quietly.
"You remember that cabin?" you asked.
"Yeah," Freddy croaked.
"We're going there," you told him.
"But that place is like an hour away," Foxy barked.
"I know."
When you were out of sight of the gas station, you pulled out the bag and held it. Your slippers collected dirt as you shuffled along. Freddy sighed and put his head down.
~ ~ ~ ~
It had been forty-five minutes of walking, and you were starting to get tired. You yawned and rubbed your eyes. Bon-Bon's ears perked and he crawled onto Freddy's shoulder. He whispered something and Freddy nodded. Bon-Bon jumped onto the ground and looked up at Freddy.
Everyone stopped as Freddy did. He morphed into a ball and into a blue-eyed white bear, with light purple paw pads and highlights. Baby, Ballora, and Foxy looked at each other. Foxy shrugged and did the same, except he turned into a yellow-eyed, white fox, with pink paw pads and highlights. Ballora set Baby down and did the same, turning into a purple-eyed, blue raven, with white legs. Baby giggled and turned into a green-eyed ferret with red fur and white paw pads.
Bon-Bon thought for a moment and morphed into a ball, then into a pink-eyed, blue rabbit, with light blue paw pads and highlights. Bon-Bon jumped up and down while giggling ecstatically.
"What's all the commotion?" you said, turning around, then gasped as you saw a bunch of wild animals walking behind you.
"No, it's okay! It's us," Freddy blurted, standing up and putting his hands out.
"Oh, why are you guys animals?" You yawned.
"Get on my back," Freddy said as he fell back onto his front feet.
"What, why?" you wondered.
"Because, you're tired," Freddy croaked, walking up to you and nudging your hand.
You sighed and lifted your leg over him. You sat on his back and Freddy huffed in content. Ballora's wings fluttered as she flew up onto your shoulder; Foxy jumped up and lay down in front of you; Baby crawled up and sprawled over your leg; and Bon-Bon hopped up and sat in between your legs. Foxy pulled his tail to him and looked back at Bon-Bon.
"Here we go!" Freddy cheered as he started walking.
You petted Bon-Bon as you wobbled side to side. As Foxy looked back, he squeaked in jealousy. You smiled and petted him with your other hand. Foxy laid his head down and rolled over. You giggled and pet his stomach and he squealed.
"Fuck, you're adorable," you mumbled.
The headlights of a car lit up the road as it came closer. The car passed, then it screeched to a halt a few feet in front if you all. Freddy continued to walk and the windows open. A little boy and girl stuck their heads out of the back window.
"Careful, kids, we don't know what it'll do," the father--from the driver's side--worried.
"Um, excuse me, miss!" the mother called for you from the passenger window.
"Yeah?" you said as Freddy walked up to them and stopped.
"Are you aware that you are riding a bear?" she wondered.
"With white and purple fur?" the father asked, dumbfounded.
"Are you from the circus!" the little boy wondered excitedly.
"Yes, I am aware, and no, I am not from the circus. This is my little buddy. He won't bite," you told them.
"Look, she has a fox!" the little boy exclaimed.
"And a bunny!" the girl added.
Foxy's tail wagged and Bon-Bon's ears perked up. Baby huffed in jealousy. You patted Freddy on the back and he looked back at you. You quickly looked at the kids, then back to him. Freddy nodded and walked up to the kids. Freddy blew air through his nose noisily and the kids laughed.
"Are you sure?" the mother worried.
"He's really friendly, and he loves children. And he's pretty intelligent, so he knows not to bite anyone," you assured her.
The kids pet Freddy on the head. Foxy got jealous and jumped up on Freddy's head, nudging one of the kids' hands. The kid laughed and started petting Foxy. Bon-Bon thumped his foot and hopped between Foxy's legs. Foxy squeaked as Bon-Bon crawled underneath him and jumped into the girl's arms.
"Aaahaha," the girl squealed.
Foxy stepped onto the window and the boy pet him. His foot kicked as the boy scratched under his chin. Freddy looked at you sadly and you smiled at him softly. You pulled his face to you and kissed him on the snout. Freddy purred loudly and you giggled.
"Hey, do you need a lift?" the father asked.
"Oh, no, I'm fine. My friends and I were just taking a stroll," you replied.
"Oh, well, okay. Kids, we've got to get going, hand her her 'friends' back," the father said.
"Aww," they both whined in unison.
"Can't we just- . . . Are we able to take a picture?" the mother asked you.
"Oh, sure," you told her.
"Yay!" the kids cheered.
Foxy jumped down as the doors opened. The kids jumped out, while the mother stepped out, grabbing her phone out of her purse. Freddy walked back some, and the kids jumped around. The mother looked at her husband and he pointed at his watch. She rolled her eyes and turned back.
"Okay, can the bear sit down?" she asked.
"Yeah, just a minute."
You grabbed Baby and got off Freddy. He looked at you and you pointed down. He plopped down and sat up, towering almost twice your size. The boy picked up Foxy while the girl picked up Bon-Bon.
"Alright, kids, stand next to the bear," she instructed.
They both walked up to Freddy and stood in front of him. Freddy grabbed both of them and pulled them closer to him, hugging them.
"Okay, miss?"
"Huh?" you babbled.
"Where do you want to go?" she asked.
"What do you mean?" you wondered.
"I mean, I want you in the picture too," she laughed.
"Oh, really?" You blushed.
"Yeah!" she gushed.
"Okay, then. Um?"
You thought and an idea popped in your head. You walked up to Freddy and set Baby on the side of Freddy's arm. She clung on and looked at you. You motioned for her to stay there and she nodded. You walked behind Freddy and started to climb up him.
Freddy roared softly and the kids backed away. You stopped and backed up some. Baby hopped down and looked up. Freddy got on all fours and walked behind you. He softly headbutted your side as you tried to follow him to see. You turned away from him and he stuck his head between your legs. You yelped as he stood up, and you held on to his head. He walked forward and sat down.
"What just happened?" the mother croaked.
"It's okay, he's fine, now," you told her.
The kids ran back up to Freddy, and he put his paws on their shoulders. Baby jumped back onto Freddy's arm and gripped onto the side of it. You folded your arms over Freddy's head and set your head down. Freddy looked up at you and smiled. Ballora flew from your shoulder and onto the top of your head. She spread out her wings, making it seem as if she were about to take flight.
"Alright, is everyone ready?" the mother asked, looking through her phone.
"Yeah!" you and the kids said in unison.
"Everyone say 'cheese!' "
"Cheese!"
The woman stood there, staring at her phone as you and the kids smiled. The woman smiled at her phone and squinted at the group. Everyone stopped smiling, waiting for her command. The kids started getting antsy, petting Foxy and Bon-Bon. You put your arms on your legs and moved your face beside Freddy's. He looked at you, his nose touching your cheek. You closed your eye as Freddy slid his tongue up your cheek.
"Perfect!" the woman exclaimed.
"Huh?" the girl asked.
"I got a cute photo of you two playing with the animals and the bear licking the side of the woman's face," she crowed.
"Ooh, I wanna see!" the girl gushed.
"Me too!" the boy added.
They both ran up to their mother and looked at the phone. She tapped on the screen a few times and the kids giggled.
"Look at the birdy! Its wings are dropped down like: 'I don't get paid enough for this,' " the boy said.
"And the, the . . . um, other thingy was looking at us like: 'I want attention,' " the girl added.
The woman laughed and you grinned. She turned off her phone and slid it into her pocket. You wiped off the saliva that stuck to the side of your face. Freddy slowly stood back on all fours, and Baby jumped down. Freddy lowered his head and you slid off him. Freddy pushed you up lightly, helping you stand. Ballora dropped back onto your shoulder.
"Guys!" the father complained.
"Oh, kids, it's time to leave. So, give the nice lady her 'friends,' " the mother said.
"Aww, okay," the girl pouted.
She petted Bon-Bon a few times and hugged him, before handing him to you. The boy did the same, holding Foxy in a hug. Foxy licked the kid on the nose and he giggled as he handed him to you. The kids jumped back into the car and shut the door.
"Well, bye, then. And, thank you. The kids haven't really been in the best of moods lately, so, this really perked them up," the mother thanked you.
"It's no problem. Bye, now," you called as she got in the car.
The kids waved to you and the rest as the windows slowly rolled back up. You waved back to them as the car drove off. When the car was out of sight, everyone jumped around.
"Oh, they were so fun!" Bon-Bon laughed.
"Did you see that boy? He loved me!" Foxy crowed.
"Yeah, they were great," Baby muttered sarcastically.
"They were so nice, and they really liked seeing me. I want that to happen all the time! (Y/N), did you see?" Freddy gushed.
Freddy stood up and picked you up. Ballora cawed and flew off you. He hugged you and spun around. You looked up at Freddy as he stopped. Freddy's ears fell back and he set you down. He dropped onto four feet and walked beside you. He looked at his back, then to you.
"How much longer away is that cabin?" Ballora asked.
"It shouldn't be too long," you told her as you sat on Freddy's back.
You yawned and lay down, crossing your arms and laying your head down. You sighed as Foxy jumped up. He made a circle a few times, before curling up on your back. Ballora flew over to you and nestled over your right shoulder and into the crevice that your arm made. Baby crawled up Freddy's leg, and Bon-Bon hopped up. Baby crawled by Foxy and curled up between your shoulder blades. Bon-Bon hopped up to your head and stepped into the crevice of your other arm. He curled up and laid his head on your cheek. You closed your eyes as gravel crunched under Freddy's paws.
