Fred and Ralph were best friends, but one day when Ralph was playing with Fred he heard his sister complaining.

"I never get to have a friend come over and Ralph always does and he's younger than me."

"Okay, we'll play with you. What shall we play?"

Fred suggested 'tag' and he even offered to be 'it'. After three games Fred was still 'it' because he said he didn't ever want to be tagged by Ralph's sister.

"Fred, you're weird," said Ralph. "It's only a game."

"Let's play a different game," said Fred. "Soccer, kickball, or Hide 'n Seek?"

"But I'll win all those so easily," said Ralph.

"Wanna bet?" said Fred, holding out his hand. "Bet you $100."

So they shook but Ralph said, "First let's see the $100."

"No fair," said Fred. "That's cheating, we have to play the games first."

"I bet you don't have $100," said Ralph.

"Well, I bet you don't either," said Fred.

Fred put his hand in his pocket and said that he didn't have enough - he didn't have any money. Ralph had $1. "Boy, Fred, you're weird to bet $100 when you don't even have $1."

Quizzie came over and laughed at the bet. It was the next day at school when everyone at school said "Fred, you're weird," including the 6th graders.

That got Fred so mad his face was red and tears were coming to his eyes. But by the end of school everyone forgot the silly bet and Fred decided he wouldn't have to get a black belt in karate.
