Chapter-03

(Someone heard Raj and Neyonika talk about a significant deal. And that person is Cabir.)

Cabir- I need to do something. Dad needs to stop doing all this with Bhai.

(Cabir quickly goes to Manik's room and gets inside without knocking. He was expecting to face some cold behaviour but gets astounded when he finds Manik still sleeping.)

Cabir (shocked)- Kahin main kisi galat room mein to nahi aa gaya?

[Cabir- Have I entered the wrong room by any chance?]

(He looks around the room and then takes a sigh of relief.)

Cabir- Nahi nahi! Hai to ye Bhai ka hi room. Par The Manik Malhotra aaj itni derr tak kaise so rahe hain? Inhone apni post se resign kar diya kya?

[Cabir- No, this is his room only. But how is The Manik Malhotra sleeping till late today? Has he resigned from his post?]

(He then thinks something and is shocked.)

Cabir- How can they? Mom, Dad ne hume bataya kyu nahi ki Manik Bhai ka koyi twin bhi hai. Oh God!

[Cabir- How can they do this? Why didn't they tell you that Manik Bhai had a twin brother too? Oh God!]

(He is talking to himself when Mukti, who was passing by the room, comes inside.)

Mukti- Oye joker! Tujhe kya hogaya?

[Mukti- Hey, joker. What happened to you?]

Cabir- Mukti! You won't believe this.

Mukti- Kya?

[Mukti- What?]

Cabir- Hum dono ka ek aur Bhai hai Mukti.

[Cabir- We have one more brother, Mukti.]

Mukti- Of course naa buddhu. Manik Bhai tujhe teri behen lagte hain kya?

[Mukti- Of course, idiot. Do you think Manik Bhai is your sister?]

Cabir- Manik Bhai ke alava bhi alava koyi aur.

[Cabir- Someone apart from Manik Bhai as well.]

Mukti- You have gone mad, Cabir?

Cabir- Tu khud dekh le yaar. Ye Manik Bhai thodi hai yahan jo itni derr tak soo rahe hain. Ye koyi aur hi hai.

[Cabir- You can see it yourself. It's not him who is sleeping here till this late. It's someone else.]

Mukti- Shut up Cabir! Bhai is also a human. Kal zyaada thakk gaye honge.

[Mukti- Shut up, Cabir. Bhai is also a human. He must have got exhausted yesterday.]

Cabir- But hum itni derr se yahan shorr daal rahe hain to Bhai uth kyu nahi rahe?

[Cabir- But we have been talking loudly here for so long, so why is he not waking up?]

Mukti- Chal utha ke dekhte hain.

[Mukti- Let's try waking him up then.]

(Mukti shakes Manik a little to wake him up.)

Mukti- Bhai.

(Manik is still asleep, so Mukti shakes him again.)

Mukti- Bhai are you okay?

(Manik wakes up and then sits on the bed, stretching his body.)

Mukti- Bhai aap aaj itni derr tak kaise soo gaye?

[Mukti- Bhai, how were you sleeping for so long?]

Manik- Wo kal ki drama picture kaafi boring thi naa. To it worked as a lullaby for me. And it gave me a deep sleep as a gift.

[Manik- Yesterday's drama picture was boring, so it worked as a lullaby for me. And it gave me a deep sleep as a gift.]

(Mukti makes a whatever face while Cabir tries to suppress his laugh.)

Mukti- Bhai Cabir jaisi baatein mat karo please. Tell me the truth. Are you okay?

[Mukti- Bhai, please don't talk like Cabir. Tell me the truth. Are you okay?]

Manik- Of course Mukti! You guys don't have to worry about me. I am fine.

Mukti- But Bhai, you look tired. And...

Manik (a little sternly)- Mukti! I said I am fine. And I can take care of myself.

Mukti-Of course! Vo to dikhta hi hai. Ki aap khudka kitna dhyaan rakhte ho.

[Mukti- Of course, we can see how well you can care for yourself.]

Cabir- Okay, you both. Please relax.

Manik- Just leave from here, both of you. I need to be alone.

Mukti- We are not your employees, Bhai, and you cannot order us. Because we are your family.

Manik (sarcastically)- Of course! Family.

(Manik just goes to the bathroom to get ready, and Mukti sits on the bed, annoyed.)

Mukti- This is not done, Cabir. Bhai humare saath aise behave kyu karte hain? Humari kya galti hai?

[Mukti- This is not done, Cabir. Why does he behave like this with us? What is our fault?]

(Cabir sighs and sits on the bed next to Mukti.)

Cabir- I know you are not happy with his behaviour, Mukti. But hum kuch nahi kar sakte yaar. And jab bhi ghar pe kuch hota hai yaa Dad aur Bhai ki ladayi hoti hai. I don't know why, but I always see that expression of pain in Bhai's eyes. like kuch to hai jo hume nahi pata. And why does Bhai hate Dad so much?

[Cabir- I know you are not happy with his behaviour, Mukti. But we can do nothing about it. And whenever something happens at home, Dad and Bhai get into a verbal fight. I don't know why, but I always see an expression of pain in Bhai's eyes. Like there is something that we are not aware of. And why does Bhai hate Dad so much?]

Mukti- Of course Cabir! Because Dad took away Bhai's passion from him.

Cabir- And maybe there's more to this story. And one thing I am sure about is that Dad is again plotting something. I heard him talking to Mom about some crucial deal, but he was panicked that he would lose it because of Bhai.

Mukti- Mujhe kuch samajh nahi aa raha Cabir, so lets just leave this topic. Dad ki deal hai naa to vo khud dekh lenge. I am leaving. And Bhai kabhi apna loss nahi hone denge. So chill.

[Mukti- I am not getting anything, Cabir, so let's just leave the topic. It's Dad's deal, right, so he will do something about it. I am going and know that Bhai won't let his company suffer losses. So chill.]

(Mukti leaves from there, and Cabir takes a sigh. He, too, leaves the room, and Manik comes out of the bathroom, brushing his teeth, with just a towel wrapped around his waist, looking smoking hot in messy hair and an evil grin on his face.)

Manik (smiling evilly)- Mr Malhotra's important business deal concerning me. That's excellent!

(He thinks something, smirks, and then goes to get ready.)

(On the other side, Riya has already reached the hospital and is busy studying some cases when she receives a call. She is shocked and apprehensive as it's her Dad Ashwin on the phone. She takes a deep breath and answers the call.)

Riya- Hello.

Ashwin (drunk)- Hello, Riya Baby.

(Riya grips the phone with her hands and is sweating by now.)

Riya (meekly)-Yes... Sir.

Ashwin- Oh, don't be afraid, baby. I am not there to hold you, right? Are you missing my touch, hmm?

(He laughs evilly on the phone, and Riya's condition is no sound on the other side. Her breathing is irregular, and she is trembling in fear. She is about to cut the call when Ashwin speaks up.)

Ashwin (sternly)- No, no, no, baby doll. Dare you end the call. Papa ko gussa nahi dilate. Nahi to punishment milegi. Pata hai naa punishment mein kya hota hai phir. Haina!

[Ashwin- No, no, no, baby doll. Dare you end the call. Don't make me angry, or I will punish you for that. You know about the punishment, right?]

(Riya's fear increases on listening to Ashwin's words as some voices of a little girl crying and screaming in pain echo in her mind.)

The voices-

"Please dukh raha hai. Acha nahi lag raha."

["It's paining, please. I don't feel good."]

"Mumma, save me, please. Help, please."

"I am sorry Mumma, please. Main dubara nahi karungi."

[" I am sorry, Mom, please. I won't do this again."]

"Dad please kholo naa. Mujhe darr lagta hai andhere se. Please, Dad! (cryingly) Bohot andhera hai yahan. Mumma! Mumma, please, naa."

["Dad, please open the door. I fear the dark, Dad, please. Mom! Mom, please."]

"Bhai aap bohot gande ho. Main sabko bata dungi aapne mere saath kya kiya."

["You are a terrible guy, brother. I will tell everyone about what you did to me.]

(These are the voices of little Riya, whose agonizing screams are now the present Riya's horrors every night. That 06-year-old girl, whose father locked her in the dark storeroom for 2 days straight... why? Because she tried talking to one of his friends who came home and asked him to be her friend. The following 2 days were the most unfortunate for that 6-year-old kid.)

(Riya comes out of her past when Ashwin speaks up again on the phone.)

Ashwin- Okay, leave all this. You know I have a piece of good news for you.

(Tears flow down Riya's eyes as she grips the phone to her ear with both her shivering hands.)

Riya (in tears, terrified)- What... what news?

Ashwin- That... You are getting married.

(As soon as Ashwin says those words, Riya gets shocked.)

Riya (shocked)- Marriage?

Ashwin- Yes! You are getting married, and you know why I am so happy? Because we are getting money from your marriage. Lots and lots of money. And also, we will be free from a curse like you forever. Just take your bad luck with you and leave our lives forever. You bloody curse! Goodbye!

(As soon as Ashwin cuts the call, Riya slowly keeps the phone on the table and clutches her top tightly in her fist, trying to control herself and more tears roll down her eyes.)

Riya (in tears, in a broken voice)- Why?

(She closes her eyes to calm herself down, but the voices from her past keep disturbing her. She shuts her ears tightly with her hands, her breathing laboured as she feels the tightness in her chest. She looks around, scared as nothing is working and her thoughts are overpowering her mind. She quickly rushes to the washroom and locks the door. Standing in front of the mirror, she clutches the washbasin tightly and takes deep breaths, closing her eyes.)

Riya (to herself)- Everything's okay, Riya. It's all okay. You are safe. You are safe, Riya. Everything's okay. You got this. Calm down.

(She repeats the same lines a few more times by looking into her eyes in the mirror, which calms her down to some extent. She looks at herself in the mirror with a tear-stained face and lightly touches her reflection in the mirror.)

Riya (meekly)- You are not a curse, Riya. You are special. You are perfect.

(Consoling herself for a few more minutes, she cleans her face and returns to work, plastering a big smile on her face.)
