What Goes Bump in the Night

Krystal woke up in the middle of the night. She needed water. She felt and ache in her stomach. She looked outside, it was storming out with a lot of lightning. She turned on the faucet in the upstairs bathroom but the water taste horrible. So she went downstairs. She got a glass and she drank it. She put it in the sink. Then she stopped moving. It felt like something was there watching her. Krystal could sense no living organism that would make her feel so, paranoid.

Some rapping at the window made her jump. It was just an old tree branch repeatedly hitting the window.

"Krystal..." the voice from the basement spoke again.

A flash of lightning revealed a head... of lettuce in the garden outside.

Part of Krystal wanted to run upstairs to the safety of the bed and Fox, but the other part wanted to go and see who was making that noise.

Her curiosity won and she found herself slowly going down the basement steps. She looked for a light switch at the bottom, but there was none to be found. She grabbed and old lantern and amazingly it worked. She held it up so she could see better. The lantern flickered, casting long, dark, creepy, shadows. That in combination with the lightning outside, scared her. She screamed in shock and pain when her foot had a collision with the leg of a table.

"Help... me.." the voice whispered.

"Who's there?" asked Krystal limping slightly.

She entered a room that was somewhat empty. In the end of the room the table with straps on it. There was a chest and an old book. She walked towards it when she tripped. She tried to get up but she could not. She looked up and screamed.

In front of her a fox that looked a lot like Fox, stood there with the book. This fox had yellow eyes and he wore a dark grey hood. He read aloud. Krystal looked over to the table and saw Slippy was strapped to the table, he was shuddering. Krystal struggled to get up but she could not.

The fox like creature had the tail of some lizard, she found this out when he turned to open the chest.

Sudden the hooded fox pulled out a baby frog.

"MY BABY!" Slippy wailed struggling.

The hooded fox sprinkled dark powder onto the baby frog. Slippy's eye widened and he screamed as the frog turned light green and wrinkle.

"FOX! Help me!" screamed Krystal struggling to get up.

The hooded fox gave what looked like a small smoking shriveled rasin to Slippy. It blinked and said,

"Dada"

Then it head fell off.

"Noooooo! My son!" Slippy went rampant. "Get me out of here you sick Fuck!"

The hooded fox smiled an evil smile and took it's hood off.

A skeleton smiled a bony smile at Slippy.

"The dead peoples lips be movin, more then her be movin." The skeleton pointed at Krystal.

Krystal screamed and screamed.

"Run while you can, don't let that happen to your kid Krystal!" the skeleton pointed at the shriveled head. Slippy wailed and the skeleton started pulling him apart.

"The dead, when they talk, you better listen. RUN!"

Krystal was finally able to get up and she ran upstairs. She heard bones cracking and screams, Slippy's wails for help that would never come.

The faded away into the sound of thunder. Krystal went upstairs sobbing.

"Krystal what is it?" Fox asked sleepily. Krystal hid under the covers.

"It's this house Fox, I don't know if we should live here."

"It's a brand new house Krystal, what don't you like."

"It's just a bad place to live."

"How?"

"It's horrible Slippy was captive in our basement and someone who looked like you was torturing him and they even killed his kid. And I couldn't move and-"

"Krystal, baby, it was no more then just a dream."

"It felt so real."

"Your probably getting used to the new house, that's all. Tell you what. In the morning I make you breakfast and you an stay in bed."

Krystal waited a moment, then she decided, "That sound nice Fox."

"Now come here." he said.

She scooched closer. She could feel Fox's breath on her head.

"Your safe with me, I won't let anything happen to you." He kissed her and held her tight.

She snuggled in and soon she fell asleep. Safe, for now.
