Chapter 4: Living the Little Life

Packing from our new home? Our brand new home!?  Not something i'm in love with.  I had folded a black, long sleeved sweater keeping in mind this was probably not going to be a weekend without a house and fun memories.

Filling multiple bags and suitcases with clothes and bathroom items. I hear footsteps coming up the stairs waiting for Jake's warm embrace I stand eyes closed.  Yet, no warm hug behind me.  Instead I hear a girls voice.

"Guess i'm late for the party." The voice swimming through my ears knowing that sweet voice must belong to my one and only big sister, Avery.

I stumble over my words after looking up " guess you did."  I ran up to Avery and took her with-in my arms hugging ever so tightly.  Her hand gently brushes through my tangled hair just as she had when we were kids.  I look up at Avery's big green eyes and red hair.   A kind glance swept across her face but was then overthrown by a shadow of grief.

" You tried your best to keep our secret,  mom and dad would be so proud of you." Avery said letting go of  my body and started to pack.  "lets get this done."

Hours went by and we had finished packing.  but, now was the hard part.  Where are we going to go?Avery and Jake sat on the floor while I prepared lunch.  Grabbing loafs of bread, tomatoes, and mayonnaise.  I made my way over to my two best friends  hands filled with tomato sandwiches.

"You can hang with me," Avery said in between bites spiting everywhere.  " I don't have much to offer but, you can hang at my place."  What she had meant by that was, she does not have  husband, job, or even a home.

Jake sat up straight, "We will be fine, we will find someplace to live and deal with what we have. " At those words my fingers folded into my palms. In a burst of rage stood up am started screaming " We have the same rights as everybody else why should we have to move?!?"  Feeling so frustrated my body begins to swell with anger and once again start to lift from the wood floor.  This time however it was a different feeling.  It was the feeling of a sad anger.  But, that was not going to stop me!  This day had already blown the roof off with rage!  I was ready top explode.

Avery ran up to my aid but, I was not for the inspirational talk!  My nails digging deeper and deeper into my palms as I feel a warm substance leave my hand.  " You will be fine all is g.." I drowned her words out of my head.  She was never really good at pep talks.  I look around, looking for Jake to make sure I was still backed up.  But, as I caught a glimpse of him I saw he was tired.  Just as tired as I was, sick of the day and wanting to hunker down and enjoy a cup of tea.  I sank as if disappointed and embarrassed, to face my family.    Everything seemed to go silent and time to freeze.  Minutes later Jake walked over and sank to my level.  Hesitating he put his hand inches away from my back.  His hand resting inches away but, knew not to continue.  I stood up my eyes and head still glued to the ground and ran out the door leaving my family behind.
