It was another quiet and quaint night, the sounds of life being soothed to sleep as the stars twinkled in the sky while the moon hung high and full. The air was sweet and gentle, soft winds blowing through the pathways between the cobbled buildings of the small village.

Petals of stray and broken roses swept through the air, fluttering past shut doorways, travelling as if to find someone that would open a door to them. They fluttered towards a warm and small village library that was tucked away between large buildings, almost as if it tried to stay hidden from the world. The windows were decorated with other flowers that hung like garlands from the roof, a sense of magic roaming around the library as fireflies flew by the windows.

The library door gently opened, a tingle of the doorbell breaking the calm quiet as the woman inside drifted between bookshelves to stack away books. Her skirt flowed around her, her hair twirling as she hummed and cleaned the shelves.

She glanced at the old grandfather clock, one that had seen decades and generations of civilisation grow and collapse. Now it stood along with her, telling her the time that slowly ticked by. The woman turned once she heard the doorbell ring, wondering who could've come to her library so late at night and how they found her library.

She peered past the shelves and saw a small girl, eyes wide and hair frantic as if she ran like her life depended on it. "Are you lost?" The woman asked gently, lowering her height so as to not scare the child who looked at her like she witnessed a miracle or a fairytale come true.

"You're actually real..." the little girl whispered, her curly black hair framing her toothy smile and the woman chuckles softly. "The woman of the moving library."

"Now what makes you say that?" the woman urged the little girl to go on to tell her story.

"My snowglobe told me." the woman instantly grabbed her necklace as she noticed the familiar snowglobe in the hands of the little girl, a swirling storm of snowflakes evermoving in the confines of the crystal clear glass.

"It can't be..." the woman mutters in shock, feeling the bulge of her own snowglobe that rested against her heart. "And what did your snowglobe tell you?" the woman brought the girl closer to a couch so she could rest, draping a blanket over her in case she got cold.

"It said to follow the rose petals to find its missing soulmate and it brought me here. Its soulmate looked after a magic library that moved places every day." the woman smiles gently at the little girl who was beaming with excitement thinking she was at the said library.

"You know you shouldn't be out here on your own. You need to go back home." The woman urged but frowns witnessing the worried look on the little girl.

"I... I don't remember the path I took." The girl whimpered, her lips quivering and the woman kneeled before her on the couch.

"Hey, it's ok." She soothed the little girl, gently brushing her hair away from her small face. "You can stay here and I will help you find your family in the morning." the woman cooed, heart aching at how terrified the girl was. "What if I told you a story so the night can drift faster. What do you say?"

The little girl beamed and nodded and pulled the woman up to sit next to her on the couch before the open fireplace that glowed with warm embers. "Tell me about the snowglobes!"

The woman chuckles, knowing the girl wouldn't drop the story of the snowglobes and decided to tell her. "Well, it all started on a night like this, with that exact same grandfather clock." The woman pointed to the clock that sat, ticking away until 10 pm had hit and little figures came out to play its set sequence.

"Every night at midnight, there would be tiny workers in the clock to reset the time for the new day..."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Two tiny workers ran around the cogs of the clock, absolutely frantic and worried as this was the first time in almost 500 years that they had been late in resetting the clock at midnight. They jumped around, climbing ladders and pulling on ropes to turn on switches amidst the gold lighting and inner workings of the clock.

Now, you may ask, why was there only two workers? No one ones, but they have been the guardian of keeping time working. Because these tiny workers had been late in rewinding the time, they had set a series of magical events. As the clock had hit the chime of midnight a minute late, somewhere in the world, a young girl had dropped into an unknown world from a glowing portal. This event may not be tied with the clock but one can only imagine.

It was the middle of the winter season and the girl had dropped into an unknown land, freezing and shivering from her modern clothes of consisted of a shirt and pants. She grew terrified, spinning around to view her surroundings that once used to be the safe confined place of her apartment. Now she was stuck out on the snowy white ground as the night blanketed over her with twinkling stars.

The moon had been especially big and bright, almost illuminating her path as she walked through the dark forest barefoot until she appeared to a road. There was no one in sight and the petrified girl climbed onto the road, walking down to what she hoped was civilisation or to someone that could help her. She didn't have to wait long when a carriage travelled down the road with horses huffing. She stuttered and waved, hoping the carriage would stop as she fell to her knees. She couldn't feel her legs anymore and heard the door open to the carriage to reveal a young man.

He was a dashing man, brown ruffled hair that was unkept and truly unlike the older man's greying hair that was slicked back. They both wore high-class coats and suits which wasn't surprising as their carriage was of mahogany wood and gold.

"P-Please..." The girl stuttered hugging her body and the young man quickly took his cloak off and wrapped it around the girl. He worried about her, noticing her lips turning a soft shade of blue and turned to his father that stood behind him and had not spoken a single word.

"We must help her!" The father simply raised a brow and nodded, the only signal the young man needed to pick up the freezing girl and carry her in the carriage as the father followed behind. The carriage instantly was sent into a gallop as the young man tried to keep the girl in his arms warm but she had closed her eyes and welcomed the darkness.

The next moment the girl had woken up was not in the freezing cold with the chilling winds biting at her skin, but in the warmth of a bed with the most softest of silks and velvet encasing her skin. She slowly sat up, absolutely confused to reveal the glowing sun shining her with rays of the floor to ceiling glass balcony doors in front of her.

She was startled, mind racing as to why she was in the most exquisite and almost fairytale-like bedroom she only wished she could have. "Maybe I'm dreaming..." The girl pondered, pinching her skin but wincing at the slight pain. She slowly stood up, gasping at the soft carpet beneath her feet and the silken nightdress that flowed around her. The canopy queen bed behind her as she wandered around the large bedroom that also connected to a living room of sorts on her left.

The bedroom had things that she only saw people with available money would have. Large walk-in wardrobes of elegant and beautiful dresses, vanities of sparkling jewellery that could easily belong to hundreds of women. There was a study desk and chair by the balcony doors, a door by the walk-in wardrobe on her right that could lead to the bathroom. The living room had velvet couches, a coffee table with a chess set sitting before a large fireplace.

The girl spun around in amazement, looking up at the chandelier that hung above her until she jumped from the soft knocking. She turned to see a door open and in walked the young man that helped her the night before.

The young man was startled at how beautiful the young girl was, her big doe eyes wide as she stared at him, hair lilted with a shine of gold from the sun as the soft silk fell over her body. "How are you feeling?" The young man forced himself to clear his throat and keep his blush at bay but that didn't mean the woman could hide her blush as she stared at the rather handsome young man.

"I'm feeling better now. Not as cold as I was when I was outside." The girl chuckle and the guy beams happily knowing she wasn't sick. "But can you tell me where I am? Also, who are you?" This questioned surprised the young man, wondering if the girl had lost her memory.

"You are in the land of Skonovia and I am sir Five Hargreeve. What may be your name milady?" The girl furrowed her brows, wondering if this land actually existed on the globe.

"I'm (y/f/n) but you can call me (y/n). Please don't call me milady." Five blinked at the request, never ever heard someone to ask him to speak to a lady so informally or by their given name.

"Lady (l/n), I could never disrespect-"

"-I don't mind. Really." The woman smiled and something fluttered in Five's chest. He cleared his throat and nodded, unsure how to continue until he remembered why he came to visit the unconscious woman occupy one of his fathers many guest bedrooms.

"Ah, my father actually requested for your presence once you awake."

"Your dad?" (y/n) tilted her head in confusion, wondering why Five was speaking so formally.

"Do you not know of my father? Reginald Hargreeve?" (y/n) shook her head and that surprised Five. The whole country knew of the Hargreeve family as the royal family. How could this one girl not know who they were?

"Should I?"

"Uh, you could say that my father is a very important man in Skonovia-"

"-I shouldn't keep him waiting should I then. Let's go-"

"-uh, You may need to dress first Lady (l/n)." Five blushed and looked away as she had walked closer towards him before stopping.

"Right. I need to change."

"I can bring in the maids for you and have them get you ready."

"You have maids!?" (y/n) gasped and was surprised by the lined set of maids that soon walked into the room she was in. They all prowled towards her and she stumbled back. "No! Do not do anything to me! I can get ready myself!" Five watched in amusement as (y/n) dodged the maids as they tried to catch her.

"Lila, would you mind helping Lady (y/n) get ready. The rest of you shall begin your daily duties." The rest of the maids bowed and walked off leaving Lila to attend to (y/n). "I will see you when our paths cross again, Lady (y/n)." Five says softly, grabbing her hand and kissing the back of it gently before leaving a bewildered girl and a waiting maid.

"How may I be of service to you milady?" Lila bows and (y/n) instantly stops her.

"Please don't do that. You can call me by my name. Don't start with the milady bullshit." Lila gasps at the sudden curse.

"Ladies should not let their mouths speak foul words!"

"It's ok. No one is here besides us." (y/n) winks at Lila who just gaped at the strange girl. "Lila?" (y/n) waved a hand before the girls face to break her out of her trance. "What do we have to do?"

"Oh!" Lila runs to the walk-in wardrobe, looking for a dress for (y/n) to wear. " I must set out your clothes today and wash you-"

"-no!" Lila jumps as carries a gown to the bed. "I can clean myself!"

"But-"

"-no buts! I don't want anyone seeing me naked!" (y/n) shrieks and runs for the bathroom to freshen up as Lila stood confused.
