💫 If I Had A Heart (Part 2) 💫
The morning hens and roosters cooed as soon as the early rays of sun filtered over the prospering lands, beat by the woman that was already wide awake in the bedroom. (Y/n) laid on the floor, a habit and a comfort chosen over the bed she's never had in years in her travels of sleeping on forest floors with her companion. She laid with her head on her pillow, ears perked for any sounds as she played with her dagger that was thrown up in the air and was caught by the handle in a repeated cycle.
Sleeping on the floor was the best strategy to jump on any enemies that dared attack her during the night, her figure hidden by the bed from the bedroom door with a dummy figure replacing her in the bed. When (y/n) confirmed that no one would dare attack her, she slowly sat up with a grunt of pain. There was a knock on the door as she stood up, clearing the bed of her activities.
"M'lady?" (Y/n) looked over to see two maids standing by the open doorway, one holding luxurious fabrics and the other holding jewellery.
"Yes?"
"We have been assigned as your maids in hand,"
"Until you are healed." Both young women, equally beautiful and soft spoken. One with golden locks and ocean blue eyes, the other with ebony hair and deep tar eyes. It was obvious these two were very close friends and (y/n) sensed the passive and kindness in both of their auras.
"You do not have to that. I can dress for myself." (Y/n) didn't mean to hurt the girls that were younger than her, noticing the worried look in their expressions.
"We cannot disobey Prince Five's orders, M'lady."
"I see. Well, you both can stay here and relax and I can change. I am not comfortable being dressed by someone."
"Really?" Both girls were shocked to be offered rest.
"Of course. Help yourself to the fruits or the clothes here. If you both ever need refuge or an escape from chores, my bedroom doors are always open to you." The maids both gasp and giggle, sitting down on the bed as (y/n) took the fabrics and jewellery to get dressed in the bathroom. The dress was like silk of gold and quartz, draping over her elegantly which worried the girl as she did a few braids in her free hair with twine and and flowers. She looked in the mirror, happy as her hair covered her ears as it fell past her shoulders and down her back.
"Gods..." the two friends on the bed had their eyes widen in shock as (y/n) walked out, their cheeks a faint pink as (y/n)s beauty waves over them like a siren.
"Girls?" (Y/n) quickly snapped them out, lips pursed in worry as her heritage charms and powers were activated unwillingly.
"You look like a goddess-"
"-no she is a goddess!"
(Y/n) chuckled as the two friends started fighting on her bed. "You both flatter me but the true beauties here are you both." The friends blushed again, not knowing why they were so entranced by the woman they were to serve. "I must go. I assume the King has requested for me?"
"Oh yes! He has invited you to join him for breakfast today." (y/n) nods, and leaves her bedroom, letting the girls stay in her room as she wandered down the hallways that were lit up now in the daytime.
The morning after battle victories were always chaotic and full of soldiers drunk on ale. These were the moments Five did not enjoy, sitting by his father and mother while his siblings celebrated as he cleaned down his sword.
He sighs as some drunken bastard spilled ale near his boots, tightening his grip on the hilt of his sword as the man waddles off. The cacophony of laughs and cheer quietens down suddenly and Five looks up in confusion, his eyes widening at the ethereal view before him.
The woman he had saved on the battlefield peeked around the corner like a terrified doe, eyes wide and unsure as she revealed herself. She was dressed in the luxurious fabrics and jewels Five specifically had gotten for her, looking as if she was a goddess sent from Valhalla.
The men all hushed into a quiet trance seeing the beauty before them and Five knew that this (y/n) was more special then she let on. No woman has he ever encountered be able to entrance a whole villages worth of men unlike the lonely traveller.
"You must be (y/n)!" Queen Grace, Fives mother was the one to break the silence, calling over the scared girl. (Y/n) quickly walked over, shuddering from the hungry stares of the men that were induced from her aura.
"Your highness." (Y/n) bowed out of curtesy but the kind Queen lifted her up from doing so.
"There is no need dear. Here take a seat!" (Y/n) shyly sits down next to Five who was watching her every move, entranced himself of how the jewels and twine glinted in her hair, making the gold specks in her eyes almost glow. "How are you feeling? Are your wounds any better?"
"They are healing very quickly thanks to your talented maids. I owe you and them graciously." The Queen smiles, feeling warmth from the girl before her, noticing her youngest son also glancing at the girl.
"I think my son should ask for your thanks as well, he was the one who found you on the field." (Y/n) looked over at Five in surprise, a hint of pink on his cheeks as she smiled at him and thanked him.
"You were still alive and we do not leave men behind on the battlefield." Five waves off the thanks, trying to calm down his blush.
"Well I still owe you my life, so thank you Prince Five." (Y/n) bowed slightly, hiding the disgust on her lips and the crossed fingers beneath the layers of her dress. She looked back up and noticed the king, Reginald Hargreeve and a flurry of anger lit up inside her but she had to bury it back down to not reveal herself.
He was still the arrogant and murderous man she remembered from years ago, having no right to be celebrating any victory as he drank with his wife. "Bring in the treasure!" A soldier calls out and (y/n) looked over in confusion.
"Treasure?"
"It is an artifact that the king had found years ago. He believes it was sent from the gods themselves as it grants him safety and prosperity for his next battle." Five muses, a coy smile on his lips as the woman next to him bristled from his touch. He moved the sleeve down of her dress, lightly brushing his fingers against the wrapped bandage on her arm. Five could feel the heat from (y/n)s skin, knowing that she was flushed and it amused him.
(Y/n) quickly pulled her sleeve back up in a flustered manner, picking up on the slight chuckle from Five as the soldiers brought in a large board covered in a sheet. There was a blinding pain that travelled across her back, (y/n) clamping down on her lips to hold back her shrieks from the wounds on her back that started burning painfully as the sheet was pulled away.
Everyone cheered except for (y/n) whose pain was buried from the agonising rage that burned within her. On the board was a pair of large glowing wings, wings that shimmered like fireflies. Wings that glimmered like ice crystals that spread across a lake.
Wings that belonged to (y/n).
"They have never glowed like that before!" A random soldier exclaimed and the king stood up with a glass in his hand, raising it up.
"Odin smiles down on us! He has approved of our last battle and grants us our next victory for this is the proof! It is our fate to be victorious!" The king announces and everyone yells out in cheers. (Y/n)'s skin burned with disgust and anger, seeing what rightfully belonged to her and was ripped away from her very back being shown off as a filthy good luck charm.
"Are you alright?" Five narrows his eyes on (y/n) as she grabbed her dress, the gold specks in her eyes slowly turning red from the glow of the wings before him. He places a hand on her shoulder, hissing in shock from the heat that burned him.
(Y/n) needed to let off some steam and quick, noticing some of the soldiers grabbing their weapons and going outside to practise. "Where are they going?"
"To spar but I believe no activity that requires brute force will interest a woman like you."
"You would think but you surely could not be more wrong prince Five." (Y/n) hissed lowly, standing up abruptly from the table and quickly walking away from the celebration, leaving Five with questions running through his mind.
As Five watched the woman that took his interest walk away, he didn't notice his father watching them both. Mainly the woman that his son saved on the battlefield. He narrowed his eyes, wondering why the woman seemed familiar to him.
