Chapter 9
Dipper P.O.V
I get up and head downstairs to the kitchen. I haven't eaten since this morning and my body has finally reached its limit.
I snoop around the kitchen for a bit while trying to decide what to eat. Stan and Ford are most likely asleep because it is getting rather late. I make sure to be extra quiet with my actions.
Nothing exactly seems appealing to me at the moment. I am hungry, but nothing sounds good. I sigh softly and close the fridge quietly, jumping when I see Ford on the other side of the door.
"Sorry, Dipper, I didn't mean to frighten you," he apologizes, turning on the kitchen light.
"It's fine, I just thought you were asleep," I tell him, running my fingers through my hair.
"Is something on your mind?" he asks while sitting at the table.
I sit across from him and sigh softly, glancing out the kitchen window. He glances too and then looks back at me.
"Long day?"
"Yeah, you could say that," I say softly.
He gives me a strange look for a moment before looking out the window again.
"Did you find something?" he questions, raising an eyebrow at me.
I slowly shake my head no. I have not found anything but Bill Cipher. I don't want to worry either of my uncles by bringing up his existence. They both believe he is dead and I want to keep it that way.
"What's that on your neck?"
I am confused by Ford's question and rub my neck. I don't really feel anything until I look in my phone screen and see a bite mark. It makes me want to cringe and sends chills down my spine.
'Bill must've left it on me during our several hours together. I didn't see it at all. I didn't even feel him bite me. Now I have to think of a lie quickly before Ford becomes suspicious.'
"Oh, that," I say slowly, rubbing my neck, "I found a couple of gnomes and they like to bite," I lie, trying to cover my fictitious story with a laugh.
He gives me a stern look for a moment which tells me that he's trying to determine whether or not I'm lying. I feel myself grow nervous because he is rather intimidating.
After a couple moments his expression softens and he laughs softly. I laugh softly as well, feeling a bit awkward in the situation.
"They do like to bite," he says with a laugh.
I nod and share a small laugh as I glance at the time. It is getting rather late and this whole conversation has made me lose my appetite. I get up and stretch with a yawn.
"I think I'm going to go to bed," I tell him softly.
"Are you sure? Did you eat anything?"
"I'm not that hungry. I'll eat at breakfast. Good night," I say while heading to the foot of the stairs.
"Good night, Dipper."
I head upstairs and sigh once I reach my room.
'Bill and I are going to have to be more careful from now on.'
