The Teenage Heroine

An average girl guys can't stop falling for, the Teenage Heroine never lets her unkempt hair and sassy comments get in the way of true love.

Relationship status: Single at the start, taken by the end

Mortal Enemy: The Slutty Girl

The Teenage Heroine generally follows one of two paths when she first encounters her love interest:

She starts out hating him either because he's too handsome for his own good, or because everyone else likes him and she's just in that kind of mood today.

Alternatively, she's a bumbling disaster who doesn't want him to know how hot she finds him.

Most common story type: Love; her hormones ain't got time for anything else!

Habitat: The bed, bathroom, and kitchen as she gets ready to leave for school, a lunch table with BFF, walking around alone anywhere mildly dangerous (especially at night), a window with a view of the stars/city

Rarely found: waiting in a classroom with an empty seat next to her that she hopes the new guy won't take

Common Attributes:

Thin

Shorter than the hero and bad boy

Wild hair that needs taming and brushing and never looks quite right

Messy buns and pony tails

Claims average looks, but is constantly flirted with by guys she likes and casually hit on by creepy drunk dudes

Eats a lot, does not exercise, stays skinny

People say she's got big ol' doll eyes

Eyes are, for some non-genetic reason, color-changing, or not the same as anyone else's because they're a unique color like purple or aquamarine.

Doesn't wear much makeup other than sometimes eyeliner and mascara

Tends to be a brunette or dirty blonde

Not the most fashionable one in school, but when she dresses, she impresses

Default expression: a combination of lip-biting, blushing, and looking down

Common personality traits:

Stubborn

Smart enough to not have to pay attention in school

Knows everyone's business (who is sleeping with who and where all the parties are at, etc) despite not being friends with any of those people

Often shy/quiet except when she's sassin' some poor soul or leading a rebellion or something

Likes to roll her eyes and sigh

If you argue with her, at some point you'll be made a fool and she'll be proven to be right

Enjoys music; often a good singer

Anything you can do she can do better (except if the Bad Boy or Hero are nearby)!

Adorkable

"Awkward" whatever this means; she never usually does or says anything to back this up

Often a self-declared bookworm or nerd who affirms such traits by wearing t-shirts with popular characters and/or citing novel titles.

Has a BFF who consults with her about what not to do; Teenage Heroine tends to do the opposite

Weaknesses:

Animals

Young children, but only if they need help or they're related to Teenage Heroine; the rest of the time they're either annoying or making her blush by asking if she's dating Hero or Bad Boy

"Stubborness" which isn't really a weakness at all; writers just like to say it is even though it's usually the trait that brings her the most success!

Love interest; she'd pretty much die for a man she didn't know two weeks ago

Common background info:

Parents don't exist, and if they do, they don't argue with her or enforce their status as parents by using the word "No."

She's got cute younger sibs, or ones who have tragically passed away in an accident of some kind*

*If she's an only child, she's usually living with her mom. Sorry, dad.

Remember, these are just common traits. Characters may have one or five or none of these. There are definitely variations and it doesn't mean your story or character isn't unique! I mean, how many of us where shorts and a t-shirt to go to the gym? Doesn't mean we're identical twins and unoriginal, it just means we have something in common. It's what you do with it that matters!
