THREE. the rise of august gomez and joshua bassett

CONTRARY TO popular belief, August Gomez was a great actor. She held her nerves back as Tim introduce her along with the four other new cast mates and quickly pushed them into hair and makeup for today.

She honestly couldn't be anymore worried than what she was right now.

She had done one screen test with everyone when she had auditioned but she honestly saw it as a joke.

She didn't want to be an actor, hell she was dragged into this by Angelina and didn't see a point of portraying a character people were either going to hate or love.

But Mabel was right. There was a first time for everything this just so happened to be August's first big break.

She still felt like she was going to be sick. First day jitters she could assume but it felt worse.

She had a scene with everyone today but only had to interact with Matt, the Love Club, and Josh.

Though Angelina was by her side for the most of the scenes. It was still pretty scary to be in front of all those cameras and the fear of her messing up was eating her alive.

DELIVERED

AUGUST HEAVILY sighed as she pushed her phone in her back pocket and adjusted the fake glasses on her face.

She had people running into place around her as Tim began to call action for the scene.

She let out one last breath and as soon as she heard the words "action", began walking down the infamous East High hallways with stacks of fake flyers in her hand.

She didn't have to say much of anything in the first 20 seconds until she felt hands resting on her shoulders.

She turned around and saw Mabel standing in front of her with a smile just as bright.

August and Mabel had been set to play best friends in the show. Not much background on how they grew as friends but they did any and everything with each other.

"The flyers look great." Mabel smiled, acting in her character, Evie.

"Because you made them."

"Graphic design is my passion."

August let out a small laugh. She wasn't supposed to laugh. It wasn't in her script, but she didn't hear anyone call cut so she continued to follow beside Mabel who pulled multicolored blank cards out of their prop backpack.

The two of them began going back and forth when August heard her characters name being called from down the hall.

Once they turned around, they were faced with Matt Cornett. He had been casted as EJ Caswell... also known as Shiloh's ex-boyfriend.

Mabel could tell that August was nervous and rested a hand one her shoulder.

"How are you?" He asked.

"Good? Just putting up Love Club flyers."

"You're still doing that?"

August didn't really know what emotion to put out. She could be angry or she could've been sad.

She only furrowed her brows and continued on with her lines with nerves.

The scene with Matt ended quickly which left August and Mabel to quickly returned back to their Shiloh-Evie conversation.

Tim soon called cut and smiled as he approached August and Mabel.

"Good job you two. Get ready to met in the gym and after that the Love Club room."

Tim left one last praise and left the two of them alone.

"See! That wasn't too bad now was it?"

August kinda just stood there. It didn't seem so bad, but she was still nervous.

Mabel gently hugged August's side and muttered something about finding Angelina.

AUGUST SAT with her hands on her face and she muttered to herself.

She was sitting outside her trailer and honestly felt like shit still. She had never ever done anything like this and she began to think it was a big mistake.

It was the little things eating her up inside. She laughed when she wasn't supposed to. She felt like she was walking too fast for Mabel to catch up. She was in her own head.

Maybe this acting thing wasn't her thing. She just so happened to get lucky and they thought she was good enough and she knew that they could've found someone better than her. She just got lucky and that's all she told herself.

She didn't want to cry so early in the game but she felt like she was letting a ton of people down by her performance and that they were only holding back their actual feelings to prevent her from feeling this way... but she was and it was too late.

"August?"

She glanced up and saw Joshua Bassett; her costar, her maybe possibly love interest, and currently the guy who was looking down at her while she had tears running down her face.

"You okay?" He asked.

She took in a deep breath as he joined her side, "No. This... all this is just-"

"Scary?"

"A lot." She sighed, wiping her face, "I don't deserve this. I've never acted before, I've never even sat in a live audience before. There was someone else out there wanting this part and I stole it."

"Is that really how you feel?" He asked, "Because you killed it out there. You're Shiloh."

"No I'm not. I'm a a girl who-"

"Who's starting off in her long journey of her career."

"This just isn't for me."

Josh sighed. His trailer sat right across from hers. He stood up and held his hand out.

"I wanna show you something."

She stood slowly and grabbed his hand as he lead her to his trailer.

He wasn't expecting visitors but his trailer wasn't a mess, he did have instruments laying everywhere.

He grabbed his guitar and he gestured for her to sit down on the couch as he pulled a chair close to her to sit on.

"Before I got this part I almost quit acting. I wasn't getting parts that I wanted and I felt like giving up."

"But you're here so..."

Josh smiled, "I am and so are you. Why are you doubting that? You did well enough to get here."

She didn't say anything as she leaned back and played with the fake glasses that her character had to wear.

"Have you ever written a song?"

She looked up, dried tear stains on her face, "No."

"Ever played an instrument?"

"I can play the piano."

"Really?" Josh watched as she nodded, "I know your character doesn't have to sing for now, but Olivia and I are working on a song that we're hoping can be put into the last episode depending on how the show ends this season."

The show currently had four different endings. The first one happened to be Ricky and Nini would get back together and she would be accepted into YAC without him knowing. The second was that they (Ricky and Nini) didn't get back together. The third (bare with us August was just as confused) was that Shiloh and Ricky got together and the Love Club became a success, and finally Ricky had to chose between Shiloh and Nini and if they got picked up for a second season they would have him (Josh) pick out his love interest.

It was a lot of work for newcomer August Gomez and anyone in her positions would be overwhelmed with all of it. They didn't know what ending they were going for just yet, but Tim had been leaning towards the Nini and Ricky route so far.

"I want to get your opinion on it. Just to see how it sounds so far." He continued, "We're still working on a few lyrics here and there. I would like your input if that's okay."

She nodded as he began to strum his guitar.

August hadn't yet heard him sing yet and this would be her first time.

Falling in, dare to say, love with someone's voice was dangerous but Joshua had a lovely voice and something about it made her smile.

As soon as the song started it has ended.

"Like I said, it's not finished, but do you think you can sing some of Olivia's lines to try and get a feel for it. To make sure it's good so far."

He was only trying to make August feel better and to get her mind off of going back to set in the next twenty minutes.

He held out the lyrics for her and as she grabbed the Josh saw a small smile on her face as she read over the song.

"Is this song for Ricky and Nini?" She asked.

"It doesn't have to be."

She sat upright and waited for Joshua to began playing again.

"I fell in love with the only girl who knows what I'm about."

"I fell in love with a boy and I can't tell if I fell out." She sang, "After all said and done I can't just pretend I'm moving on."

You've heard it once and you'll probably hear it a million times, but August never saw herself as a singer.

She joked around with Angel (who could sing) and did karaoke with her every now and then, but a professional singer was never up her ally.

But she could sing and it was written over Josh's face that he was awestruck about her voice.

He watched her with careful eyes as she sang the words with him.

The song wasn't long as it wasn't complete, but Josh knew that he liked singing with August.

She sighed as the song came to an end and she handed the paper back to Josh.

"It's good so far. I don't see why you need to change anything you have." She smiled, "Does it have a name?"

"No, not yet. We're still working on stuff so no name yet."

She stood up waving her face with the back of her hand, "Call it Just for a Moment. Sounds nice." She sighed, "I need to get my makeup redone, but thanks for making me feel a little bit better."

August sent him a small smile and made her way towards the door when Josh stopped her.

"If you need someone to talk to, I'm around."

"Thanks Josh. I'll keep that in mind."

She pushed the door open when he called her back.

"Hey, August?"

She stepped back inside his trailer, poking her head inside.

"You're too pretty cry."

She couldn't help but smile, "Thanks Josh. I'll see you on set."

She shut the door behind her and Josh sighed heavily and sat his guitar down.

At the end of the day it was his choice on whether or not his character ended up with Nini or Shiloh and both the characters were the absolute opposite of each other, but something about August really made Shiloh... Shiloh.

Josh liked that. He liked it a lot.
