Chapter 37

"Who wants to play truth or dare?" Lucifer asks, an eager grin on his face.

Sam and Gabriel share a look, checking with each other before agreeing, "Sure," in unison.

"No," Castiel replies at the same time, because he really doesn't want to lose this bet. Lucifer just sticks his tongue out at the boy teasingly.

"I don't really care," Dean says with a shrug.

"Yeah, same," Samandriel agrees.

"Why not?" Anna adds.

"I guess,"Adam agrees, not very enthusiastically, but not as if he's dreading it, either.

"I think my opinion is kinda irrelevant cuz everyone but Castiel already agreed," Michael says.

"I didn't," Samandriel protests.
"You don't have a choice," Michael replies factually. "Looks like we're all playing truth or dare, then."

They arrange themselves in a circle, Destiel sitting together next to Sabriel, with Lucifer across from them because ships. Adam and Samandriel sit on either side of the ships, which is pretty much across the circle from each other, separated on the other side by Claire, Lucifer, Michael, and Anna.

"Who starts? I start? Cool, I start," Lucifer announces. Castiel mentally prepares himself for the Adamandriel dare, but instead, Lucifer looks to Michael. "Hey, bro. Truth or dare?"

"Um... Truth."

"Are you at least a little curious about Bee Movie? Have I made you even think about watching it?"

"Not at all," Michael tells him. "So, now what? Do I ask someone, or...?"

"Yep," Lucifer replies.

"Okay... Castiel, I guess? Truth or dare?"

"Truth."

"Um... Would you rather be here, in New York, or on tour?"

He takes a moment to think about this. New York is quieter, which is nice, especially for writing. At the same time, he loves his whacked out family. Finally, he answers, "No offense to you guys, but I'd rather be on tour."

"Great. Thanks, Cas," Dean says sarcastically. "Love you, too."

Castiel leans over and presses a quick kiss to his lips. "M'kay, on tour with you."

"I like that idea," Dean murmurs.

"You guys are so cute!" Lucifer squeals.
Castiel chuckles and looks around the room for his next victim. "Dean, truth or dare?"

"I'm gonna go dare and hope you dare me to kiss you," Dean replies.

"You don't need a dare to kiss me," Castiel murmurs, kissing him just for that. He can feel the other boy smile against his lips before they pull apart.

"This is cute and all, but, like, we've got a game going on," Gabriel reminds them.

"Party pooper," Castiel teases. "Wait, so now I have to think of a dare? Which involves being creative? Ugh, this is hard. Um... Screw it. I dare you to kiss me."

Dean grins. "I like this game."

They kiss, interrupted a few seconds — minutes? — later by Claire saying, "I'm glad you're having fun, but there are other people here."

The two pulls apart hesitantly, not wanting to stop but knowing they have to. They can finish this later. Right now, they have a game to play.

Dean looks around, his gaze drawn to Lucifer waving his arms around and mouthing "Pick me! Pick me!"

Dean rolls his eyes. "Lucifer, truth or dare?"

Castiel slaps him (kind of) lightly on the shoulder. "Dean!" he hisses.

"What?"

Castiel gestures somewhat subtly to Samandriel next to him, and Dean seems to realize what his mistake because he mouths "Oh..."

"Dare!" Lucifer replies excitedly.

Dean thinks for a moment before saying, "I'm going to assume we're playing PG-13 version right now, and go with... I dare you to try to play guitar. Unless you think you're gonna break it, and I wouldn't be surprised, and I'll think of something new."

Lucifer scoffs. "Wow, Dean. Thanks for all the trust. Hold on. I'll be right back."

He walks away without any sort of explanation, leaving everyone else to sit in confusion until he returns with Castiel's guitar that he's left in his room for the last five years, only acknowledging it the few times he comes home. Lucifer takes a seat farther from the circle than he was before, giving him room to lay the guitar across his lap.

Everyone braces themselves to hear whatever racket Lucifer makes, which makes it that much more surprising when he plays an actual chord. Switching between them takes a few seconds, but sure enough, Lucifer is actually playing guitar.

No one is really sure what to say to that. No one expected it to actually sound okay. It's not a piece of art, of course, but it's not like a toddler stole their parent's guitar and almost broke the strings, either.

The first to find words, Castiel asks, "When did you learn to play guitar?"

Lucifer looks up, resting a hand on the strings to stop the vibrations. "Couple weeks ago. How come no one warned me how much it would hurt my fingers?"

"Your fingers get used to it," Dean tells him. "Eventually, it won't feel like you're holding a fire."

"Oh, thank god," Lucifer breathes.

"What song is that?" Castiel asks him.

"What is this, 'Interrogate Lucifer Time'?" he jokes. "It's one of your old ones from before you started using the G chord because I hate the G chord with a burning passion."

"I don't blame you," Castiel replies. It took him forever to learn how to play it because his fingers were too short for it. "How'd you get my songs, anyway? All my notebooks are in New York."

"We made digital copies a few years ago, remember? I looked through those. Don't judge me. I was bored. Okay, enough 'Interrogate Lucifer.' Samandriel, truth or dare?"

"Pick truth!" Castiel whispers loudly.

"I'm kinda scared to pick truth now," Samandriel replies. "Dare."

"Dammit, Samandriel, he was trying to save you," Dean tells him.

"What? But — Ah, crap."

"I dare you to kiss Adam," Lucifer says proudly, likely due to his evil scheming.

"Stop trying to make Adamandriel happen," Samandriel whines.

"And I wouldn't really get anything from this, so I don't see a point," Adam adds. "It's not my dare, and I don't get to dare anyone after, so..."

"But it was Samandriel's dare, so you have to," Lucifer replies.

"But —"

"Guys."

Dean gestures for the two of them to follow him. The three of them walk out of them room, returning a few moments later. Dean looks sort of proud of whatever he said, but the other to boys look less excited.

"We have a solution," Samandriel announces. "Since we know you won't leave us alone, we decided that one of us would get to ask you 'truth or dare?' and you don't get to ask anyone else because then the other one of us continues the game."

Lucifer grins. "I have read and agreed to these terms and conditions."

If he was expecting some type of magical kiss where they both realize their true feeling for each other, he would be disappointed, because it lasts approximately half a second before they both return to their spots as quickly as humanly possible.

"Lucifer, truth or dare?" Samandriel asks.

"So you guys obviously have something planned, and I don't know how to avoid it," Lucifer says. "Um... Screw it. Truth?"

Samandriel grins, and it's clear that's what he wanted. "Do you like Claire?"

Glancing at the girl, whose interest was piqued at the question, Lucifer replies cautiously, "I think Claire is a very fun person to spend time with."

"No, do you like like her?" Samandriel clarifies, though his meaning was obvious the first time.

"You already asked me a question," Lucifer reminds him. "Gotta wait 'til your next one."

"Lucifer, truth or dare?" Adam asks, a slight smirk on his face.

"Fuck," he mutters under his breath. "Dare. Bring it on."

Adam looks at Dean helplessly, his plan foiled. Dean rolls his eyes and gestures to himself, and Adam nods before saying, "I dare you to do whatever Dean's dare is."

"Fine," Lucifer replies. "But you can't dare someone to answer a question because that's cheating."

"Come on, Luce, you know I'm better than that," Dean replies.

"Okay, I don't know if I should be scared or interested," Lucifer replies.

"I dare you to give Claire a hug if you like her as a friend or a kiss if you like her as more than a friend."

Lucifer just stares at him for a moment. Finally, he says, "Bruh, how did you think of that so fast?"

"This is far from my first game of truth or dare," Dean replies. "You pick things up. Now go. You have a dare to do."

Lucifer rolls his eyes and crawls over to Claire. She just watches him, waiting to see what he'll do. He pulls her into a hug, which she returns awkwardly because hugging people is hard when one person is sitting and the other is kneeling but whatever. They make it work anyway. Just before he pulls away, Lucifer presses a kiss to her cheek, so brief it's hard to know whether it really happened or not. Lucifer quickly returns to his spot in the circle.

"Did you just —" Claire begins, but Lucifer cuts her off.

"Samandriel, truth or dare?" he asks quickly.

Samandriel glances at Claire, who still seems to be about to say something, before replying, "Truth."

"Are you gay?" Lucifer asks.

"Nope. Claire, truth or dare?" He mouths "dare" at her afterwards, earning a confused look from everyone else in the circle, herself included.
"Dare," she replies hesitantly.

"I dare you to ask Lucifer a question that he has to answer seriously."

"Okay, that's not fair," Lucifer whines.

"Too bad," Samandriel replies. "You wanna ship me and Adam, we're gonna ship you and Claire."

Lucifer just glares at him. It's not a death stare, but it's pretty damn close.

"So, I've just gotta get this straight," Claire says. "You like me? As more than a friend?"

Without looking at her, Lucifer replies, "Yes. I shouldn't, but yes. And I know you've got your eye on — on someone else, and we both know that's never gonna happen either, so just put this into that type of situation. You don't have to try to let me down easy because I'm not asking you out. 'Kay, your turn."

Not satisfied yet, she asks, "Lucifer, truth or dare?"

"This game's rigged," Lucifer announces, standing up. "I'm out."

Ignoring his friends and siblings calling after him, he walks out of the room. Everyone lapses into silence until they hear the front door open and close, and there's a collective group sigh.

"Someone should go after him," Michael says finally.

"Why don't you?" Claire asks.
"Because I'm bad at social interactions. What's your excuse?"

"I'm bad at being nice."

"Oh. Yeah, you can't go," Michael replies. "Gabriel, you're good at being social."

"I don't like drama," he replies.

"What are you talking about?" Samandriel asks. "You love drama."

"Well, yeah, but not if —"

"You guys suck at being friends,"
Castiel announces, standing up. "I'll go find him. You guys stay here and reflect on how you're all horrible people. 'Kay? Good."
