Chapter Three

I was laughing with Jazz as we drove down to the beach. We had just evaded some cops after speeding down an empty highway.

"Jazz!! We can't do that anymore. We'll get in trouble", I say, still laughing.

"But it's got my girl smiling", Jazz says. I could hear the smile in his voice.

"Who says I'm your girl?" I ask, teasing Jazz a bit.

"Oh ho ho, we're going that way, are we?" Jazz teases back.

"Yep!" I chirp happily.

Jazz laughs and tightens the seatbelts around me, almost like a hug. I smile rub the seat gently, making Jazz shudder slightly.

"That felt weird", Jazz mutters.

I laugh softly as Jazz stops on the beach, where no one was. He transforms and looks down at me.

"I'm gonna miss ya, shorty, when it comes time for me and Bee to leave", Jazz murmurs.

"I'm gonna miss you too", I whisper. I chuckle softly. "But let's not think about that right now, okay?"

Jazz smiles and sits down on the ground. I walk over to him, and he lifts up his hand. I walk up to his side, and lean against him. He looks down at me.

"Seems like ya 'ave gotten yerself attached there, shorty", Jazz murmurs. I feel tears forming in my eyes as I think about just how attached I had gotten to Jazz in just a few short weeks.

"Of course I'm attached, you're my best friend", I say, looking down at the ground, trying to hide my tears.

"Hey, Emily", I look up at Jazz. He never used my actual name. He always called me shorty, or kid. "If you ever need me, even for just  some simple trivial matter, don't be afraid to give me a call."

I smile softly and hug Jazz the best I could. Jazz chuckles before placing a hand gently on my back. I felt my tears falling from my face.

I hear my phone start to ring and I sigh. I look at it, sighing. I answer it, and hear mom's voice.

"Emily, where are you?"

"Out driving, Mom", I say quietly.

"Well, come home. I need to talk to you about something", she says. I frown before responding. I end the call and sigh.

"Time to go home, Jazz", I whisper, wiping away any leftover tears.

"I understand, shorty", Jazz whispers back.

He transforms and I hop in. The door closes on it's own accord and the engine starts as well. I had taken to just leaving the keys in the car seeing as I had no reason as to take them out.

Jazz starts driving towards home. I just stared out the window, letting Jazz do the driving.

"Hey, shorty, ya okay there?"

I nod softly, trying to ignore my feelings. Dang it, I'd only known him for three weeks and I already love him! Why can't I just... forget these feelings...? He's not even human...

"Hey, Jazz...?" I whisper, knowing he'd hear me no matter what volume I spoke at.

"Yeah, shorty?"

"Have you ever... loved someone...? Someone you know you shouldn't love but still do?"

Jazz was quiet for a few minutes before answering.

"Yeah, shorty. I have", Jazz answers quietly. I smile softly.

"Do you mind if I ask who?"

"I... I would rather not say", Jazz says uncomfortably.

I smile, understanding where he's coming from.

"I understand", I say, my smile still on my lips.

It was quiet for a few minutes but Jazz broke the silence.

"You know... you have a really nice smile", he says quietly. His words make me smile even wider.

"Thanks, Jazz", I say softly.

The seatbelts tightens around me in a hug and I rub the seat gently, making him shudder yet again.

"Primus, femme, do you always have to do that?!"

I giggle softly before patting the steering wheel. "No, but I enjoy your reactions."

Jazz grumbles for a few moments but then we pull up to my house.

"Shorty, something's not right", Jazz says.

"Well, if something isn't right, then you get out of here. You'd be in the most trouble if they found out you're secretly a giant alien robot", I say.

"I'll have you know that I'm actually one of the shortest of my species", Jazz proclaims.

"Oh, so, you're a shorty too", I tease, trying to hide my nervousness. I really didn't want to go into the house.

"Shut up, shorty", Jazz retorts.

"Only if you do." I pause for dramatic effect. "Shorty", I whisper.

Jazz grumbles. "I should not have told you that information."

I chuckle before opening the door, and climbing out. "If anything happens, then you get out of here. Promise me, that if anything happens, you'll leave, and hide, and not come back."

I knew there was pain in my voice, but I couldn't hide it.

"But leaving you will hurt you", Jazz says.

"But it will protect you and that's all I care about", I say softly.

"You don't need to protect me, Emily", Jazz says.

"Yes, I do", I start crying, knowing that the only way to get him to leave is if I tell him my secret.

"No, you don't! Why do you think you have to protect me from your own kind? I can protect myself just fine!"

"I need to protect you because I love you!" I was full on crying now.

Jazz was silent. I cry some more. "I know I shouldn't love you because we're two different species and the size difference is huge, but I love you. It's so hard, trying to ignore it, and trying to be around you. That's part of the reason why I want- and need- you to leave. Because I can't stand to see you hurt. And I know if you're around me, you'll get hurt. I attract danger to any of my friends. That's why I have no one except for my family and you. So... please... if things get messy... leave..."

With that, I turned and ran into the house, tears trickling down my face. I walk in and see my parents sitting with a military official.

"Hello, Emily", the military official says. "My name is Agent Burns."

"What do you want?" I growl, crossing my arms.

"I want you to give me your car", Agent Burns gets straight to the point.

"No", I say firmly.

"Emily-" Mom tried to cut in, but I stopped her.

"No, Mom. I'm not giving him the car I love. That car is so much more than any of you could imagine and he means so much more to me than any of you would believe", I say, glaring at everyone in the room.

Agent Burns smiles. "Would it be alright if I talked to your daughter alone?"

Mom looked at Ron and then nodded. "Sure."

"Great", Agent Burns says. "We'll go outside."

I follow Agent Burns, glaring at him the entire time. Once we were outside, he turned to face me, a serious face on. I just glared at him the entire time.

"Look, kid, I know you know that the car is actually an alien. But that car right there? That car is dangerous", Agent Burns says.

"Oh, I'm sure", I say sarcastically. "It's not like he hasn't protected me from the start. It's not like he hasn't kept me safe. He's just trying to find a peaceful place for his people. That's all he's trying to do."

"Kid, look. I need you to give me your car before he can cause any more damage."

"What damage has he caused? None that I can say!"

"Young lady, I could have you arrested. I know what you get up to with him. The racing, the hiding from cops", Agent Burns growls. "I could send you away to some juvenile school."

"Only with my parents permission", I retort. "Now, I'm going to go inside, and you're going to LEAVE me alone like I asked you to."

Agent Burns looked confused. "You never asked me to leave you alone..."

I smirk. "No, I didn't ask you." Jazz revved his engine and took off down the road. "I asked him."

Agent Burns gave me a look of pure anger. "Young lady, I'll-"

"You'll what? Torture me? Kidnap me? Break the law in any form? No. You can't. You know why? Because you came into my home, tried to take MY car from me. I was only protecting him, from the likes of you. From the ones who would dissect him, torture him. He's my best friend. I sent away my only friend to protect him! I bet you're real proud of yourself, making a depressed teenager with no self-worth lose her only friend!"

Tears were streaming down my face as I thought of Jazz. Agent Burns had a look of complete shock on his face.

"Now... leave me and my family alone, and never come back again", I growl. Agent Burns gave me a look, before leaving me alone. He walks to his vehicle and drives away. I let out a breath I hadn't realized I was holding, and sat down on the cement.

I stared at where Jazz had sat just a few minutes before. I felt the tears come to a stop as I sat there, exhausted from the long day. I saw headlights come into view but I sent them glare after recognizing the headlights. Jazz backed away, slowly, but soon turned around and sped away. I sighed before going back inside the house, where my parents were waiting.

"Where'd Agent Burns go?"

"He left", I shrugged.

"Did you at least listen to reason?" Mom asks.

"Sure", I say softly before walking into my room. I flipped onto my bed, before tears came to my eyes as memories with Jazz came to my mind. I ended up crying myself to sleep.
