For a Reason
"... Wow. I didn't think you'd actually say that." The blonde's eyes widened as his breath got caught in his chest. He was half expecting Kirishima to play it as a joke. He thought that this talk wasn't entirely serious. In his mind, there was no reason for Kirishima to feel remotely bad so he wasn't taking it as seriously as he should've been.
"I don't like running away from stuff. And since you asked, I told you. I'm sorry but, I really do like you, Bakugou!" He bowed his head as if he was almost asking for forgiveness.
"Hey, chill ou-" Bakugou raised both of his hands up as he was kind of caught off guard. He didn't know what to say.
"I promise I won't be different. I know I'm not the best at hiding it but I promise I'll try." His voice sounded desperate, although he regretted ever saying it.
"Wai-" Bakugou continued to try and interrupt, but Kirishima's ramblings continued.
"To be honest, this is the first time I've felt like this and I don't really know what to do about it."
"Kirishi-" Maybe saying his name would've got through to him.
"You don't need to say anything, I know, just-"
"FUCKING HELL KIRISHIMA, SHUT YOUR MOUTH!" The blonde had had enough of not getting his voice through, so he did the only thing he really knew how to do consistently, and yelled.
Kirishima did as he was told and shut his mouth, his head now normal level and his eyes looking at Bakugou with some sort of regret.
"Geez, you don't have to look so damn upset. Is it really that terrible?" He laughed, wondering if the red head didn't want to like him, which would've stunk a bit.
"No. That's the thing, it really isn't." The red head sighed, not being able to tell Bakugou what he wanted to hear because he didn't know what he wanted to hear.
"What's your problem then?"
"I'm just assuming how you're gonna respond-"
"Well don't." He huffed out a laugh, not really understanding why this was such a big deal. "Idiot, that's the one thing you're not supposed to do right now. And I asked you, remember? If I wasn't ready to hear what you had to say then I would've dropped it." That wasn't particularly true, but it wasn't a lie. He may not have been aiming for things to get like this right now, but he didn't mind that they did.
Kirishima took a deep breath and stared Bakugou directly in the eyes, just for these few seconds.
"Okay. So. I like you. That's it. End of discussion." He tried to shake it off, but Bakugou was not going to just let this go now.
"You're not even gonna let me say anything? You wanted to talk about it, right?" The blonde at first tried to convince Kirishima to continue having this conversation, but for once, he was the uncooperative one.
"Yeah, but only to know where we stand."
"You don't even know where I stand though, do you?"
"I don't need to." It completely contradicted what he just said and that was blatant.
He began standing up, trying to just remove himself from the situation. He didn't know how this was going, he couldn't tell. If the reaction was negative, positive, it all seemed in the middle. This all happened too quickly and he spoke without thinking at first, convinced he had nowhere to run to.
"Kirishima." Bakugou reached and grabbed his wrist, pulling him back into the chair. He had started to lose his patience a bit. "What happened to not running away? And what is the worst that can possibly happen? I reject you? We get fucking bombed?" He struggled thinking of a situation that seemed completely unrealistic, but he got there nonetheless.
"I don't really know. That's what's scary about it." Kirishima had calmed down a bit now. Bakugou was right.
The blonde leaned forward in his chair, sighing deeply before continuing to talk. He looked at Kirishima, a newfound seriousness in both his face and voice. If he wasn't meaning everything he said before, now he definitely was.
"Listen when I say that none of those things are going to happen." He reassured, paying extra attention to Kirishima's reaction to see if he understood.
Kirishima's eyes widened as he began blinking more often than a normal human being blinks. He repeated what Bakugou said in his head over and over again, trying to make sense of it. Once Bakugou thought Kirishima was finally coming around, he continued to speak.
"I said I thought I instigated it for a reason, dumbass. Just like you did." He leant back in his chair, convinced that he finally had Kirishima's attention.
"But my reason is that I like you, so at the moment I acted on it," Kirishima reassured himself, fitting his situation up with what Bakugou was saying.
"Yes. And I clearly didn't push you away, if you were even the one to start it in the first place." Bakugou's heart now started to really pick up in speed, as he knew that the two were getting closer to actually reaching common ground with this.
"You sure?"
"Oh my god, fucking look at me." He tilted his neck, flaunting the marks that were still very much prominent. He sounded fed up with Kirishima's constant interjections, seconds away from just being blunt and not bothering to try and explain. "You think I would've let anyone else do this in literally any circumstance? Because news flash, shit head, I wouldn't have." He sat back normally, waiting for a response. "I think you're forgetting that we woke up literally fucking spooning."
Kirishima turned a colour close to red as he processed what Bakugou was saying. It was all true. The spooning part at least, considering he couldn't say what Bakugou's was feeling for him. Especially when neither of them could really remember what happened. But although Kirishima couldn't say exactly how Bakugou felt at this moment in time, Bakugou obviously could.
"Do I literally have to keep proving that I like you or will you just shut up and accept it?" He lightly chuckled but in slight annoyance. His tone was at least mostly positive, as well as the things he was saying.
Kirishima was definitely not the brightest, but the blonde felt as though he was explaining it to a child with no concept of human emotions.
"You... Like me?" Kirishima asked slowly, pointing towards Bakugou on the word 'you' and himself at 'me' as he scrunched his eyebrows together in confusion.
"Yes."
"And you're sure?"
"Yes."
"Oh. That- that's great!" It didn't sink in for a second. For a few actually. Kirishima just sat and looked at Bakugou, wondering just what this meant. Then he went over it all again, realising how plainly obvious it was. "Wait- you like me!" His face lit up as he swore he noticed Bakugou heat up, even if just a little.
"I just said that, dipshit." He turned away, Kirishima's excitement actually flustering him.
"How long for?!" His smile beamed up like usual, his eyes gaining their sparkle.
"Jesus, your mood changed quickly."
"How long?!" He leaned forward, clearly very eager.
"I don't know... Like a couple of months, I guess." He nearly pouted, crossing his arms in annoyance. The almost unpredictability of Kirishima definitely kept him on his toes.
"And here I was, worrying I was being weird!"
The room was silent for a split second, the two looking like they wanted to say something, but they didn't necessarily know how to put it. They were both smiling, albeit Bakugou's attempt to hide his own.
"So what now?" Kirishima giggled, not afraid of letting his face show just how much adoration he felt.
"I don't know. I've never done this before either." Bakugou admitted, actually noticing that he was getting nervous. He wouldn't say he was nervous before because he knew how it'd end out eventually but he never thought about after they cleared that up properly.
"Guess it's a first for both of us then."
The atmosphere in the room had completely changed. There was a sense of relief coursing its way through the both of them.
"You wanna edit the video?" Bakugou suggested, clearing his throat as he turned his head back to the monitors.
"You mean... Together?" Kirishima smiled, wheeling his chair closer to Bakugou's, looking towards the screens also.
"Whatever." The blonde huffed quietly, opening the audio file and dragging it into the editing software. After a couple of seconds, he spoke up again, his voice quiet. "It's a date."
Kirishima twisted his head towards Bakugou immediately, excited by the words but also slightly confused at the same time.
"Tomorrow. The ramen. It's a date." The blonde finished, not taking his eyes away from the screen.
"I'm not gonna argue with that!" Kirishima chipperly responded, looking at Bakugou's profile for a few seconds more as he continued to smile, another shot of butterflies entering his stomach.
So damn manly.
Dedicated a full chapter to this because I wanted to get it out ASAP and y'all deserve it after that cliffhanger hehe. This is like three days in a row I'm actually proud of myself.
