SSB4 Short Story No.1 Part One
Something that I occurred to me while I was lying in bed one night, and I just had to write it. I guess it also answers the question as to which is my favourite version/game of Mega Man.
It was late evening at the Smash Mansion. It had been a long hard day full of countless, gruelling yet exciting matches, and all the fighters except for one were outside on the balcony watching the sunset.
Toon Link was wondering the halls alone. He had been feeling down as of late, but he didn't quite know why. Was it perhaps homesickness? He had suffered from homesickness constantly last Smash Tournament, so he quickly passed it off as such. And it was true, he did miss home from time to time.
But why so much now? He had handled it perfectly during Brawl. He just couldn't understand it. He felt... so alone.
He sighed.
It wasn't as if he was the only one. There were other fighters here who would sometimes leave during the tournament to go see loved ones back in their own worlds when they couldn't stand staying at the mansion any longer. He could ask Master Hand if he could go home to visit his friends and family, but he didn't want to miss out on anything at the tournament.
He also didn't want anyone to worry about him.
He sighed again, turning to lean against the window sill, looking out at the Smash Grounds. The mansion seemed so peaceful at night, he thought.
Perhaps I should go hang out with the others.
No, said a voice inside his head. You are just fine here. You don't need them, it said.
But I really should go, the more rational voice inside his head said. Everyone except for me is out on the balcony enjoying the sunset, why shouldn't I go enjoy it with them?
They don't care about you.
Shut up.
No. You shut up. I'm the one in control here!
Get out of my head!
Toon Link groaned and clutched at his head.
What is wrong with me?
"Is that Toon Link?" a voice asked.
Toon Link put his hands down and looked in the direction the voice had came. He had to look up, since the young male figure was standing in front of him now was taller than him. He was dressed in a blue outfit and wore a helmet that had a groovy-looking red visor but had space around the back to allow his light brown hair to came out in spikes. Blue armour covered his chest, shoulders, from the knees down and his lower right arm. But what really caught Toon's attention was that the buster gun on his left hand resembled that of a blue dragon, which had a bright green mane of pure energy coming out from around the back of its head.
Toon Link stopped in his tracks, for the young man in front of him greatly resembled that of Mega Man, a newcomer to the Smash Tournament this season. But the figure standing in front of him now wasn't quite the same as the one he knew.
"Mega Man? But you're not.." he trailed off, and the young man in front of him grinned, bright brown eyes behind the visor sparkling.
"Me? Yeah, you bet I'm Mega Man, but not the classic one. I'm known as Mega Man Starforce. I come from a different world. Name's Geo Stelar, nice to meet you."
He held out his right hand, which Toon Link took.
"So what are you doing at the Smash Tournament then?" asked Toon after they had finished shaking hands. "Are you a newcomer? If so, I don't remember seeing you out on the field..." he frowned, searching his memory for a Mega Man named Geo Stelar.
Geo shook his hand sadly.
"No, I'm not a newcomer this year. Maybe next time, if I get more attention from Master Hand. Not that I mind much, since I don't particularly like fighting."
The dragon head on his arm seemed to twitch at that.
Toon Link nodded.
"So you're an Assist Trophy."
Again, Geo shook his head.
"Nope. Guess again."
Toon Link resisted the temptation to roll his eyes. If he was neither a newcomer nor a Assist Trophy of some kind, then there really was no other explanation for a him being there.
"You're part of Mega Man's Final Smash." Toon Link said triumphantly.
Geo sighed dramatically, shook his head (A/N again! oh mah god Geo stahp please) and held up his left arm- the one with the dragon head- and said to it sadly, "he got us alright."
Toon Link was staring at Geo for a moment, confused, when the dragon head spoke.
"You think he wasn't? Come on Geo, did you really think that this veteran guy wouldn't know what we're doing here? It really isn't that hard."
The dragon's voice was gruff and sounded exasperated. It rolled his eyes at Geo and looked back towards Toon Link, who was standing there with his mouth open.
"Never mind that now, Geo, I think we've stunned him."
Geo blinked.
"You know what, I think you might be right, Omega Xis! Perhaps I do have what it takes to get into the Smash Tourney next season!"
The dragon head, now known as Omega Xis, rolled his eyes and looked away from Geo.
Toon Link quickly shook himself mentally and shut his mouth upon hearing the remark. Besides, this "Omega Xis" had it wrong, he wasn't a veteran. By normal Smash standards anyway.
"I'm fine!" he squeaked boldly, but secretly he was awed. Since he was younger than his older and more mature counterpart, Link, and since he was technically still a child, he was a lot more impressionable, and this so-called Mega Man impressed him (A/N again, I make a mess of my writing), with all self-confidence and easy-going nature.
Geo raised his eyebrows.
"Then why are you shaking?"
Toon Link gave a jolt as he realised what Geo said was true.
Why am I shaking? It isn't from awe, he thought. Am I sick?
Geo's eyes narrowed slightly. "Are you alright?" he asked, concern creeping into his voice.
Toon Link was starting to sway from side to side.
"Yeah.... yeah I... I'm absoluuutelyy fiiiine..."
His eyes rolled up in his head and he faceplanted to the floor
Geo took a step back in alarm. He shot a glance at Omega Xis, who seemed to shrug- if heads can shrug- and kneeled down next to the fallen Toon Link.
"Toon Link? Are you alright buddy?"
Toon Link lifted his head, his huge cat eyes spinning around in his head.
"I swear I didn't drink the punch..." he said groggily, before faceplanting again.
Omega Xis rolled his eyes again and said to Geo, "lets get him to the hospital wing."
"He probably just needs rest after the long day."
Geo nodded silently. He was disappointed he wasn't going to get to talk to Toon Link anymore. He lifted Toon Link up bridal style, before teleporting away to the hospital wing.
====Some Hours Later====
Toon Link groaned and opened his eyes. He was lying on his back in a soft bed, with the covers pulled up to his chin. Looking around, he saw that he was in the hospital wing.
But how and why was he get there?
Toon Link screwed up his face in concentration, trying to remember what had happened. It was no use, he couldn't remember anything.
He sighed and thumped his head repeatedly on the pillow.
A gruff and exasperated-sounding voice called out rather sharply at him.
"Now don't do that kid, you'll just give yourself an even worse headache!"
and then, a kinder sounding voice,
"Toon Link! You're awake!"
Toon Link looked over to his left where he saw a young human male dressed in red with blue shorts, and with (very) spikey hair sitting in chair next to him. A visor was sitting on his forehead. An electronic device of some sort was attached to his left arm. The human boy smiled at him.
Toon Link frowned.
"Who are you?" he asked, the confusion clear in his voice.
The human boy blinked, then said, "What, you don't remember? Its me, Geo! Don't say you don't remember me? We met just a few hours ago!" he said with a pained expression.
Toon Link frowned again, and suddenly the memories came flooding back.
"Geo!" he said happily, and he sat up in bed. Then he groaned, clutching his stomach. He shut his eyes tight, groaning.
Geo frowned.
He dared to ask, "Are you alright? Maybe I shouldn't bother you while you're sick..."
Toon Link opened his eyes and looked over at Geo with pleading eyes.
"Stay, please?"
His at-the-moment frail body started to shake a bit.
Omega Xis's voice rang out through the room.
"Geo, you were right, lets go."
Geo frowned.
"No, I'll stay. Until he gets better."
He sat back down in his chair.
Omega Xis groaned.
"Alright, but as soon as he's better, we go, ok?"
The next sentence he said seemed mostly to himself.
"Humans, honestly..."
Geo smiled nervously at Toon Link. Toon Link fidgeted a bit. He was relieved that Geo had decided to stay, but now he just felt terribly awkward.
"Ummm... so what did Doctor Mario say was wrong with me?" he asked Geo.
Geo shrugged.
"Fainted from over exertion. He said that you had been working too hard and stressing too much lately, and it all just built up and-" he made a sweeping motion with his hands. "and boom, the dam broke and you fainted."
Toon Link stared.
"Oh." he said simply, and fell silent.
Geo nodded, and the silence dragged on.
(A/N UUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH)
Toon Link's fingers started twitching. He felt for something in his pocket. He gave an alarmed expression when his fingers felt only the folds of his clothing.
"Hey, calm down! Is this what you're looking for?"
Geo pulled out the Wind Waker and handed it to him. Relieved, Toon Link took it. He felt the wand between his fingers, and his eyes closed, calm now.
Geo gave the Wind Waker a puzzled look as the air in the Hospital Wing moved a little.
"Is that thing changing the air currents? That can't be right, we're inside."
Toon Link opened his eyes and nodded.
"Yeah, I can change the wind's direction with this. With it I can conduct the winds and I am known as the Hero of Winds, although it really is used better when outside."
Geo nodded.
"That's cool. Perhaps you could show me later?"
Toon Link's eyes lit up at the idea that he could show Geo his skills.
"Sure!"
====SOME MORE HOURS LATER OH FUG I MESSED IT UP IT SHOULD BE MORNING BY NOW====
Toon Link (who was no longer feeling sick) was conducting the winds from where he stood on the balcony, the morning sun (A/N FUUUUU) making it feel all the more special, with his new friend Geo by his side.
Geo was standing there in awe of the sight of the sun rising over the Smash Grounds with the wind blowing around his hair spikes, as if the wind was alive and asking him to go play with them.
Toon Link opened his eyes and turned around to face Geo.
"So what do you think?" he asked.
Geo grinned.
"Absolutely amazing."
Toon Link stopped conducting and pocketed the Wind Waker.
"So how did you become a Mega Man again?"
Geo sighed and sat down on the bench, running a hand through his spikey hair. Toon Link had asked him this multiple times before in the Hospital Wing while he was still sick, and he had explained this on top of other multiple questions multiple times.
"Well, it is a long story. I guess I should start from the beginning."
"You should." Omega Xis's gruff voice echoed throughout the area.
Geo closed his eyes and began his tale, Toon Link sitting on the bench right next to him.
