Chapter 4- Up till Midnight
Midnight tapped her fork and spoon together as Jupiter walked out. "Well..." Comet got up and pushed her chair in. "I'll be going for a run. If you need anything ask Semi for help." Phoenix waved at her as she left the oldest and youngest siblings. They both looked at each other in a bit of awkward silence.
"H-hey, I wanted to apologize about-" Midnight raised her hand. Immediately Phoenix closed his mouth.
"Don't, you have nothing to apologize for." She pushed her plate to the side and leaned forward. "I appreciate your worry, but what I said is true." She paused for a second as she lifted up her hand and placed it under her hair. She then pushed up her eyepatch up. She then lifted her hair hanging from her right side. Her hole at the side of her face, where her eye used to be, was empty lifeless. The scabbing around the eye looked dry and the scars around it seemed charred. She let go of her bangs as they fell back down and covered the eye. She quickly fixated her eyepatch back. "He has done enough damage to the people here. It's only right for us to give them a better life for what he has done." She stood up and looked at him again. "You're a kind man Phoenix." She pulled her cloak to the side and pushed her chair in. "Please keep that about you." She turned to take her leave before Phoenix stopped her.
"W-wait Midnight-" She turned to look at him. "Thanks." She smiled softly. She nodded and left the dining hall. As today was a more lenient day all she needed to do was overview a few applications before the meeting later. Though she knows there is gonna be some interruptions later on. As she made her way to the top of the building she could already hear her watch going off. She looked down at her wrist as the screen started glowing. She lifted her watched as a small envelop was shown on the screen. She pressed it as the message opened She had received a call earlier. She touched it again to return the call as the mic by her ear started to ring. It rang a few times until she heard a bit of static. "Hello?" She started. She heard a bit of shifting before hearing another voice on the other line.
"Midnight?"
"Yes, what is it you need? I was having breakfast when you called me." Again there was shuffling. "Hiro-"
"Think you can come by the western side gates? There is a neighboring kingdom here demanding for entry, I've done my best to hold them off but they don't seem to keen on the idea." He paused. How did they? She felt her frustration pile up as she turned back towards the stairs.
"Yeah, I'll be there as soon as possible." She hung up before pressing a few things on her watch. A few clicks were heard until it started ringing again. She waited a few moments before she heard a voice.
"What! I'm working." Sounded like Comet.
"Mmm?" mumbled Phoenix.
"AAAAA." That was Jupiter.
"There's trouble by the western side gates. It seems like some kingdom wants to enter. Jupiter did you receive any entry warrants?"
There was some clicking heard as Jupiter hummed to herself. "Nope. Nothing of the sort." Midnight continued as pulled up her cloak. "Well, there's one but it seems for one individual named Edric Dressingburg?"
Almost immediately Phoenix answered, "Name sounds familiar, I think this guy is a scientist or doctor working under the royal family of the kingdom near the coast." Midnight hummed. She pressed down on the button that held the cloak together. Her outfit started to change
"Comet keep an aerial view of the perimeter. Jupiter increase the security by the other gates, something about this isn't sitting well with me. Phoenix you're coming with me." It was silent for a second.
"As you say sister." Replied Jupiter as she hung up. The rest hung up too. She grabbed the cloak a little as the fuzz around brushed against her skin. She rested the fuzz by her neck around her face to cover the bottom half of it. She got some sunglasses from the inside and placed it on her face. She fixated her armor and boots. She did her best to cover up her skin. Since this world mainly had human residents it was better to keep her color hidden as in not to spook them off. She quickly got to the entrance of the building where Phoenix was waiting.
"Escort is ready, they're just waiting for us." Midnight nodded. She continued on as there was a carriage waiting. Someone opened the door as they both walked in. They sat comfortably as the carriage started to move. "Isn't this like the 5th time this week?" Midnight nodded.
"Which is why this is bothering me." She looked out the window seeing the people. Some children, some older folk. All of different species and races. They waved at them and smiled happily. Phoenix waved back while Midnight continued to look down. "I want to keep these people safe. Keep their smiles with them. I'm afraid if this nation would go to war with the neighboring ones it'd bring back memories that'll make them fade." Phoenix side.
"You carry a lot sister. All four of us want to apologize for what he's done. This is our way of apologizing on his behalf." He smiled. "You do these things to care for everyone. The three of us follow your lead because we trust you." Midnight looked back up.
"Yeah, I really do appreciate your guys' help." she said looking to at her watch. It beeped. Midnight pressed it down as it picked up. "Go ahead."
"Hey Midnight. We have a problem." It sounded like Comet. Midnight sat quietly. "There seems to be a a few signatures coming from the backside of the nation. I've already informed Jupiter, she said she'll take care of that. I think it was going to be a silent infiltration." Midnight clicked her tongue. "And one of the universes has been infiltrated."
Phoenix gasped. "What?" A few clicking sounds were heard.
"Which one." Asked Midnight calmly. Comet was quiet for a second.
"Number 1, the golden age as we call it." Midnight tapped her shoulder. Comet could feel the worry flowing over her sister.
"Tell Jupiter to fall back. I wanted her to go investigate. How much was the infiltration?" Again a few more clicking and tapping sounds were heard.
"Not much if any, 0.01%."
Midnight squinted her eye. "Tell Jupiter to take CP-3."
"Her assassination group?" said Phoenix a bit bewildered.
"I don't want to take any chances. He must've taken the chance to go in. If I send a whole fleet it'll weaken our forces. The less the better." Phoenix gave a worried expression. "Phoenix." started Midnight. "Get moving to the gates." Phoenix felt sweaty. Feeling her frustration was getting him to feel nervous. "And Comet just keep me updated." With that she hung up. Phoenix sighed.
"What if it isn't an infiltration. Or what if it was a mistake?"
"Like I said I don't want to take any chances." Phoenix nodded.
"Yeah." With that said he grabbed a whistle. He blew into it as no noise came out. "I'll let you know what happens." Then what sounded like flapping of wings where heard. He kicked the carriage open. He quickly held his hand out as he stepped forward. He quickly disappeared. Midnight got up and closed the door to the carriage. Normally during emergencies he calls one of his giant birds that takes him to another place quite quickly. He does it in a way that seems to be showing off. Whether it's jumping off of a cliff, out of a moving vehicle, or simply getting scooped up. Midnight sat back down and waited quietly for her next stop.
A few minutes passed before she felt rocky parts of the Valley. The Oasis was surrounded by mountains and valleys in order to keep the place hidden. Normally to get there is to get over a mountain or through a cave, both ways were dangerous to regular citizens and people in general. Another way requires underground passages that are allowed only to top officers. Not that they don't want their citizens leaving, but it's dangerous to have them leaving without proper precautions. At the same time people from the outside that don't know what this place is, can be just as dangerous.
As the bumps of the road caused the carriage to hop and bounce Midnight payed no mind to it. Not long after she reach the entrance to a cave. The carriage came to a halt as she stepped out. She straighten out her hoodie before stepping into the cave. Up she walked on her own as the cave was ambient and cold. She continued before seeing a make shift set of stairs. A bunch of crystals and water was nearby, indicating the stairs were there. She doubled tapped her pin. It started to glow acting as a light she follwed the stairs down before reaching the bottom of the cave. She took a left and continued down the ridged path. Reaching the end of the path she took a right and pressed a pattern of stones. The wall shook before splitting in two. She walked through before it closed behind her. She walked towards the minimal amount of light which was an opening to the outside world. She gave it a knock before it opened up and showed a few guards. The mountains still surrounding the area. She came into the light as a few guards came into view. Hiroshi came into view as well. He waved at her as she came out. "He's over here." He mumbled as he guided Midnight. She followed quietly. He lead her through the underbrush before sliding down to a more cleared area. He lead her to where the mountains opened. Small and inconspicuous. A few guards where already keeping the gate closed.
"I demand to speak to the person in charge!" Yelled the man. He saw us coming. "Hey you! Are you in charge!" He yelled again. He said pointing towards Midnight.
She nodded. "I heard you are trying to come into the nation?" She asked as the guards let her through.
"Yes! I've been asked by the royal highnesses, to come here and speak with the rulers of this land." He stated sternly.
"I am one of them. What is it you'd like to discuss." she asked casually. The shorter man looked up at her. Midnight only kept her cool gaze.
The raised his eye brow. "Well can we discuss inside the..." he pointed past her. "Inside a room? An office?" Midnight squinted her eye.
"A neighboring kingdom, village, community, etc. Must go through our guidelines first before entering the nation."
The man stood a bit in a confused state. "Excuse me?!" The man exclaimed offended. He clenched his teeth. "How dare you keep me out of this country. You do know this can mean a hostile threat to the neighboring Kingdom of Lydia!" Cried the man. Midnight scoffed. Feeling annoyed and exhausted from this man.
"I've already said as well as my partner, what you could do to legally enter our borders. I do not mind letting you people in after you've done as required." She paused for a second. "But for you to threatened our home, with already hostile intent is something I will not stand for." She crouched, leveling to his size. "Take your soldiers and do not return onto this land. Especially with an intended invasion, with a thirst for my citizens blood. You will never approach here again." She stated sternly as what sounded like marching from behind. "I will not harm your men, as they did nothing to mine, but the moment you become responsible for my peoples endangerment, you'll pay with your life." She hissed as she turned. Up ahead a few soldiers had some wanna be intruders surrounded and guiding them to the exit. Hiroshi approached Midnight slightly worried.
Midnight continued to walk away feeling the annoyance of the man. "Hey Midnight." He started. She stopped as he stopped in front of her. "Don't you think threatening them back and being aggressive with them will only make them more agitated to enter or even invade?"
Midnight sighed. "I'm just getting tired of these people coming here like this. Everyone's safety here is my top priority." Midnight looked back at the group. "You should go back, I'll call in a bit to get an update." She said as she passed by and headed back to the comfort of the nation. As she walked she tapped her watch as it rung. Three clicks were heard. "Everything has been resolved. Though I would like to speak with all of you later tonight." She stated. The three other siblings responded with a simple.
"Yes, ma'am."
Midnight was going to hang up before Comet interrupted. "Can we meet up ASAP. There's a situation Jupiter and I must inform you, all of us." Midnight nodded.
"Give me 20 minutes." She said as she hung up.
ONCE AGAIN I FORGOT. I am sorry, I've been so busy but I'm back on the grind. Again apologies!
