Nova 06ㄖ A Reluctant Heart

The next morning, Strauss was called suddenly by Leonard and he was directed to see him at his office.

Carrying a bag containing his laptop that was hung diagonally from his shoulder, he takes a deep breath and fixed his gray tie while standing in the stained front door of Leonard's office. He made a little adjustments along the sleeves of his coat and when he collected enough confidence, he grabbed the linear knob and entered.

The moment the old man saw Strauss had entered, he braced his hands at his finely finished table and hoisted himself carefully from his seat, wearing a bright smile. "Señor Strauss! It's good to have you here today!"

Strauss smiled back as he shuts the door behind him smoothly. "Thank you Sir Leonard!"

Strauss walked close to Leonard's table and the old man extended his hands to a chair that was placed sideways at his table. "Please, have a seat."

At Leonard's invitation, he bowed his head a little and went close to sat down, pulling his black leather bag and placing it just above his lap. Afterwards, he turned his sight to the old man.

"Strauss, do you have what I have told you to bring?" said Leonard, his glace was at his table cabinet, reaching something.

"Yes, Sir Leo, it's right inside my laptop." he replied, followed by a smile of gladness, his hand was placed above the bag.

He smiled short at Strauss response. "Well then, that's good because...." then he placed a folder at the center of his table.

"S-sir?" he confusedly asked while looking at the closed red folder. "What's about that folder you have?"

He pushed the folder slowly towards Strauss and made a look at him. "Please take a look Mister Strauss."

He gets the folder and opened it. After he had taken to read the content, he asked, "Sir, are you serious about this?" then he slowly returned the folder closed at the table.

Leonard made a short laugh. "Yes, Strauss. We are serious about that." then he pulled some cigar and bit it.

"But Sir... Which program shall I need to give..."

He pinned the cigar between his index and middle finger then shifted his seat a little to the right. "You have to do one, if you don't have some extra program there."

"But why do we have to give some free Vocaloids to them... I mean.." Strauss said, shrugged a little, then continued, "We can just throw some party for the fans and give them some merchandise.. Or we could make the price of some of it by half. What I pinpoint here is it's not that easy to make one - not even until after a decade of doing it."

Using the one that had the cigar on it, he gestured his hand to the right. "Look Strauss, It's been ten years since you have started this business, giving them one for free is our way of giving back at them. Besides, you only have to give one - just one Vocaloid Strauss, it won't affect us that much in profit magin. Instead, it will boost out more the popularity the Vocaloids had established through this event. Look at the brighter side of this instead of just looking after the cash. Maybe- because of this, many more people would love to have thier own Vocaloids at home and inspire them to be creative and bring happiness to them."

"Yeah." Strauss said, tapping the bag once. "Indeed Sir."

He continued, "That's because it is the very epicenter of them - the Vocaloids - bringing their creativity into reality through those programs of yours, that was the original plan, right? That was your proposal to us when you came here with your prototype Maika."

He nodded slowly at Leonard's statement. "Yes... I am aware of that."

"In the business, building relationships between the company and the consumers is the most important thing to make them stick at you. I think that you have a spare program there that we can dispose for the event."

"I do have a Vocaloid that was saved at my computer Sir Leo," he confirmed, "but.. the one that was here is a reserved one for the next release together with the appends of Iroha and Miki for Christmas Edition. I just can't give that one for free, .."

Leo stared at Strauss. "Do you have any more Vocaloids there?"

"I don't have any... Sir." he replied slowly. "Only that Vocaloid that was reserved is what I have at the moment."

Leonard hummed, looking at the bookshelf at the right, overshooting his sight to Strauss. "Can you do one for the event?"

"I- I will try Sir Leo..." he said, looking at him.

"Good." then Leo puts back again his cigar an lit it up.

The atmosphere inside went silent afterwards. Strauss's look at the carpet was somewhat uneasy and was thinking deep and not even bother to move an inch from his seating.

When Leonard's secretary came in, Strauss snapped from his thinking and straightened up his body while secretary was standing just behind the closed door after she had entered. Leonard gestured at her and the secretary approached Strauss.

"Sir Strauss, I'm Sir Leonard's secretary, Isabela. Please let me assist you on some details about the event that they have staged for next week." the red haired secretary invitingly said to Strauss, followed by a smile, Strauss giving the folder to her.

"Okay..." Strauss replied, rising up from his seat and making a small bow to Leonard, Leonard smiled back while he bit his cigar that was forming a dead white line of smoke.

The secretary had opened the door for Strauss, her other hand was hugging the folder. "Follow me."

"Thank you Miss Isabela." then he gone out first the door, the secretary followed behind and shutting the door.

While the two were walking in the office hallways, Strauss's mind was divided.

"Is it coincidence or is it fate that set this in motion. I don't have much time and I don't have the choice but to do it... Good luck to you Strauss.. I hope that no one will know of my plan..."
