Chapter 1: The first hunt
POV Helena
The big map lays in front of me, Luke watching it over my shoulder. "The pack house should be around here." He marks the area on the map. "It's deep in the forest."
"This is were there training grounds should be," he draws a circle where it is. "It's not far from the pack house, it should be easy to find."
I nod as I watch it, "You cannot get to close here." He draws a line a few miles away from the pack house. "You don't know how they work, that's something you'll find out tonight." I know that the first hunt is always the most dangerous because you don't know what you're up against.
I need to get closer to them, become their friend, when they trust me enough I can get easily trough there defences and then slaughter them all. Just like they did to my parents.
I look over my shoulder to Luke, his bruised face now showing different colours from black to purple. "You ready for it?" He asks a glint in his eyes.
I lick my front teeth, clicking my tongue, "I was born ready." He smirks and so do I. I'm ready to get this show on the road.
As I walk past Luke he grabs my arm making me look up to him. "Be careful." He says soft. I have known him for years and have grown a brother like relationship with him. Even though he doesn't always show that he cares, I know he does. I nod at him and then start walking up the stairs to my room.
Opening up the secret compartment in my closet I take my medieval clothing and my weapons out. The clothing exists out of a leather pants, leather boots and a leather bustier top that keeps my stomach bare to finish it of with a long black cloak that makes me scentless above it.
I put my knives in a special belt along with some wolfsbane and my quiver with arrows and a sword in its holster goes diagonal on my back along with my bow.
I pull the hood over my head and go down the stairs going straight outside. Breathing in the fresh night air a feeling bubbles inside of me that makes me remind me of home. At least my previous home with my parents.
Shaking off the nagging feeling that seems to consume me I focus on my hunt. Walking in the dark forest to go hunting makes me feel a sort of a kick. Camouflaged by the trees and the bushes I feel a sort of safe feeling. Like it's my second home. The society always learned me that hunting must be like a second nature to you, you must experience it as a passion. I trained hard for this, I spent hours training and preparing me for hunting down these monsters and nothing will stop me now, I have nothing left, no family, no friends from that time I'm just alone with Luke.
Suddenly hearing a twig break I concentrate back on the task I have to do, pulling my bow of my back and taking an arrow and tightening the string. I am squinting my eyes to find the source of the sound and then I see it.
A sand coloured wolf sniffing the area. It won't find me because my cloak takes my scent away. I target it putting the bow against my face, breathing in and when exhaling I release the arrow, it glides through the air, the silver tip glinting in the moonlight and sparking the wolfs attention but it is to late.
It dives deep into the side of the animal piercing it's lung and heart, it whines before it falls to the ground shifting back to their human form. I put my bow back around my back as I walk over to were she lays in her puddle of blood. Gasping for air she looks around for help coughing up blood. Soon realising that no one will come she looks back to me.
I pull my hood down showing my face to her. Standing over her I feel that feeling of victory laying upon my shoulders.
The last thing I see are her scared eyes as she stops breathing. Her eyes becoming lifeless and her skin pale. I crouch down beside her body pulling out a silver knife out of my belt.
Watching the metal sparkle in the light of the moon I make my mark on her like I do with every kill I make. Slicing through her skin of her arm I form one letter.
A
Wiping my blade I put it back in my belt. Just as I'm about to turn a black wolf comes out of nowhere. Pulling my hood over my head I grab my sword and swing it. The wolf looks from me to the girl growling. She was probably his mate.
He circles me as I watch his every move trying to find a weakness. Everyone has it. Strangely my mark on the base of my neck is my weak point. I watch his movements precisely. Then I see it, he's putting all his pressure on his left back leg what means that his right leg hurts. He snarls at me, a warning!
He charges forward and as he does I slide on the ground swinging my sword and cutting trough his left back leg making him whine as he topples over, as I come to standing he swings his front paw cutting my skin on my upper arm open. Hissing in pain i lift my sword and being the huntress I am I pierce my sword through it's heart while looking into it's eyes.
I always look my prey in the eyes when I kill them, I want to see the life being sucked out of them, see how they know that they've lost the battle. That they lost a battle against a human.
He turns into his human form and then his head falls limp and his breathing stops. Again I make my mark. Suddenly I hear that there's more then one werewolf coming from a few miles away, fastly approaching.
I quickly climb in a tree with much branches and leaves so they can't see me. I hear growls and howls as they approach. Lurking from out the shadows I can finally see them. A group of four wolves, but the one that immediately catches my attention is the biggest from the four. A big silver coloured wolf who's definitely the Alpha.
They change back to their human forms, stark naked may I ad. "What did this to them?" The only girl asks, looking scared around.I hear the rumbling in the Alpha's chest, the anger radiating off of him.
"A Hunter!" He spits out, the distaste clearly hearable in his strong voice. I hear the rest of them gasp looking at each other.
Then the Alpha's head shoots up, his eyes scanning the trees, when his eyes stop just where I'm hiding my heart beats double time.
Can he see me? Those shocking blue eyes looking murderous up is giving me the chills. His hair is black like the night and his body sculpted to perfection...
What the hell am I thinking?? He is the enemy!
He shocks me by turning around to his pack members. "I can't get a scent." He says sniffing the air again.
"Neither can we. Is he using magic?" One asks.
"There just hunter tricks, I mean it, when I find this filthy hunter I'm gonna kill him, I'm gonna tear him limb from limb." Ha, the only problem, pal, is that I'm a girl and before you even can touch me you'll be dead!
"They need to be taken back." The Alpha says and they nod and go to pick the body's up, with one last glance around he shifts and leaves with the others.
This is going to be a fun hunt...
