"Rowan please stop you're killing him", London yells in agony as she watches her father scream bloody murder.

The whole house was engulfed in flames and there was no way out.

All sixteen year old Rowan Fray could do was listen to the painful and agonizing screams of her family.

Every fiber in her body seemed to be alive and active at the moment. Each trying to do their own thing, be their own dancing flame.

Rowan runs into the living room frantically trying to find something to put out the flames that seem to have risen higher and higher by the second.

Like walls they continued to rise and suffocate the young girl. Everywhere she turned there was another wall of flames whipping around into something almost like magic.

She could feel her whole body being kissed harshly by flames. Rowan whipped her head around to look for her now screaming mother.

Her eyes were glowing a blazing red that resembled the damaging flames surrounding her and the people she loves.

"Mom!" Rowan yells running towards her. She picks up her moms head from the floor and stares into her eyes.

Rowan soon found out that was a mistake she could never take back.

ROWAN
RO WAKE UP

Rowan woke up with a shout.

"Shh be quiet; what are you trying to do wake up the whole detention center?" Clarice scolded.

"Sorry I just had a really bad nightmare," Rowan whispered looking at her green eyed friend.

"Yeah well we don't have time for you to explain your nightmare right now so put on your shoes and shut up," Clarice tossed the worn out shoes to Rowan.

"Why?" Rowan questioned clearly confused as she looked down at the shoes Clarice threw.

Clarice turned around and smiled wildly at the girl. The look she gave her closely resembled the crazy looks her brother Brendon would give her.

Thinking about her brother sent a pang of hurt into her chest. She looked down at her lap blinking back tears she didn't want to slip down her face.

Clarice kneeled in front of her and lifted her head up. "Because my dear friend we are getting the hell out of this damn detention center."

Rowan looks at her with eyes wider than saucers. Her mouth was left agape as a giddy feeling started to bubble up in her stomach.

Just the mere thought of finally getting out of this hell hole was enough to get the girl excited.

"When?" She whispered.

"Right now, so come on," Clarice harshly yanks her arm so Rowan was standing.

"Wait wait wait I haven't even put my shoes on," Rowan protests yanking her arm from Clarice's clutches.

"Well hurry the fuck up Ro!"

Rowan quickly shoves the shoes onto her feet and stuffs the laces into the sides.

"So what's the game plan?" Rowan asks a slow mischievous smile making its way onto her face.

"Run and hope we don't get caught," Clarice replies.

The answer earns her a smack to the head and a very harsh glare from the Fray girl.

"What kind of fucking plan is that Clar?" Rowan whisper shouts at her friend as she stares wide eyed at her.

"It's the best thing I could come up with okay!" Clarice gives the girl a glare and grabs her arm.

"Now come on before it's too late."

Rowan closes her eyes tight and lets out a heavy sigh.

Clarice struggles to open up a portal big enough for them both to run through but eventually she gets there and they jump through it.

When they look around their surroundings they are met with grass and the cold wet outside air.

Loud sirens start to blare from behind the girls and they look at each other in panic.

"RUN!" Clarice shouts whilst she grabs Rowan's arm.

The sound of pounding feet, loud pants and blaring sirens are the only thing that can be heard in the still night.

"Clarice open a portal and get us out of here!" Rowan shouts panic evident in her voice.

Clarice lets go of Rowan's hand puts her hands together slowly pulling them apart. Purple lights start to fizzle out and spark everywhere but a portal doesn't open.

"Clarice hurry!" Rowan yells.

"I'm trying okay it takes time!" Clarice shouts back turning her head slightly to look back at the Fray girl.

Clarice tries again and finally gets a portal open.

The two girls jump through and find themselves on concreted pavement with nothing but heavy sheets of rain and their loud breaths to comfort them.

They continue to run down the street but come to a screching halt when seeing the bright headlights of a police car right infront of them.

"Shit!" Clarice curses as she grabs Rowan's arm and yanks her in the opposite direction of the police car.

The Fray girl starts to run in a panic her eyes flicking left and right as tears well up in her eyes threatening to spill. They both continue to run into an alley where yet another cop car follows.

Rowan turns to Clarice with glassy eyes and shouts over the loud thunderous rain. "Clarice what do we do?"

"Hold on it's okay I'm gonna get us out of here!" Clarice yells out as they continue to run.

"I'm gonna make a portal be ready okay?"

Rowan nods her head frantically and follows after Clarice. Both Clarice and Rowan stop and watch the car follow suit. Clarice puts her hands together and slowly pulls apart but nothing happens. "Come on, come on!" Clarice mumbles to herself.

Rowan looks at the car with wide eyes, "Clarice?" She says in worry.

"On the ground now! Put your hands on your head," The cops yells through the megaphone.

Clarice continues to struggle further worrying Rowan but, a comforting, bright purple starts to emerge from the crevices of Clarice's hands and Rowan knew that evrything might just be alright.

"Come on let's go!" Clarice shouts as the portal gets bigger.

Rowan runs through the portal with Clarice following soon after.

The two girls end up near an abandoned police station and instantly run inside.

They go to the back and find some spare clothes to quickly change in to but the sound of movement outside alerted Rowan immediately.

"Clar someone's here, we have to go," Rowan whispers slowly backing away. Clarice rushes to put the clothes on but the intruder alright came in.

"It's okay. We're just gonna talk," a voice said from behind the two girls and Clarice swiftly picks up a empty coffee pot and throws it along with a mug.

"Okay. Well, hey hold up," The man says whilst ducking so his head doesn't get shards of glass penetrated into it. "No. Wait a minute. Okay woah, woah."

Clarice picks up a stapler while Rowan stands slightly in front of her in a protective manner surveying the people in the room with them.

"Calm down, alright?" the female said. Rowan tilted her head and studied the female in the room harder thinking to herself that the voice sounded familiar.

Rowan racks her brain trying to figure out where she's seen and heard this voice before. It was starting to drive her nuts but Clarice's voice broke her train of thought.

"You with the cops? We can't go back," she says her voice slightly cracking.

The man held his hands up and slowly stepped towards them. "We're not cops, okay? We heard that you both broke out of the mutant detention center and we came looking."

"And uh how'd you hear that exactly if you're not cops?" Rowan asks finally speaking up her gaze not wavering from the female.

"Yeah I don't understand who are you?"

The stapler was grabbed from Clarice's hand by some invisible force and landed in the females. "Just a couple of freaks, same as the both of you."

"Look I'm Marcos, this is Lorna. Now, trust me, we have all been where you both were, or worse. We can help."

"Lorna?" Rowan whispered quietly to herself, "Impossible." Rowan blinks away the memories trying to claw its way from the depths of her brain and steps towards the two.

"Can you really help us? Because I've had a lot of people claim they can help me and don't!"

Marcos opens his mouth to say something but is interrupted by another voice. Guys! There's trouble."

Rowan and the new man make eye contact for the briefest second before she looks away towards Clarice. He continues to stare at her before turning back to his comrades.

"Come on, get dressed. Y'all are with us now," Marcos says before walking away with Lorna. Rowan looks after her with an indescribable look one that Clarice notices immediately.

"Do you know her?" Clarice asks stopping next to Rowan and grabbing her hand gently. Rowan looks at her and gives a quick shake of her head, "I've never seen her before in my life."

"What is it?" Marcos asks. "Cops. Coming fast this way. Kill the lights," The new man says. Rowan got the feeling that whoever he was he was the leader around here.

"How many?" Lorna asks crossing her arms over one another before thrown them outwards successfully destroying the lights in the station.

"At least ten. From the West and South."

"This is the Atlanta Police Department. We know the fugitives are in the building. Come out now or we will open fire." Clarice and Rowan shares worried glances before backing away from the windows.

"Can't you just set them all on fire or something and get us the hell out of here?" Clarice asks while positioning herself behind a wall.

"It's raining my fire will be put out instantly. It would be futile to try, plus I don't really have control over my abilities thank you very much," Rowan answers giving Clarice a look that screamed 110% annoyed.

The police start firing and Rowan grabs Clarice's arm and yanks her so they're both crouched down. Rowan shields Clarice from any bullets that might come their way.

"Lorna!" Marcos's voice yells out over the bullets and shattering glass. "I'm fine. Find us a way out!" She yells back. The man from before gets up and sprints away.

The police continue to fire bullets and Rowan feels a hand on her arm. She jumps up in fright and burns them on accident.

"Ow, shit! Come on let's go!" The man from earlier says grabbing her and Clarice's arms. They head out into the pouring rain towards a black van. Rowan gets into the car but not before hearing the gun fire and the screams of pain.

Rowan looks out the back window to see Lorna getting detained by police officers and Marcos being dragged by the man. He tosses him into the car and drives away.

"So were just going to leave her?" Clarice asks looking at everyone in the car.

"It was too dangerous we had to get you both out of there safe. If we stayed we would've risked us all getting captured and I couldn't let that happen. I'm sorry Marcos I really am." John answers.

Rowan puts her hand over Marcos's wound to stop the bleeding. "So uh, you bleed light?"

Marcos let's put a humorless chuckle, "something like that."

Rowan nods in mock understanding, "yeah okay cool. So, who are you exactly?"

John looks back at her briefly before turning his eyes back to the road, "John."

Rowan gives a sarcastic smile and leans forward so her head is between the two front seats. "Yeah cool name John, and uh where exactly are we going?"

"Somewhere safe."
