Chapter 1: Failure
I failed. The mission I had, I failed with flying colors. How could I be so reckless? I should have known better then to go in there! I should have known I would be captured! But then again, I didn't care. And that was my mistake. The mission to retrieve Region Incorporated's data failed. I had snuck in there, hoping to find some information on New Haven. However, when I snuck in, an alarm sounded. I tried my best to escape, but I was caught then knocked out. I should have known better then to do something so stupid. A slow sigh escapes from my mouth. Unfortunately, as much as I would like to fix it, I can't. No matter how much I think about it. No matter how much I want to change it, I can't. This is a mistake I'll have to live with. There's no point thinking about past mistakes. All I can do is learn from it.
Well, since I'm not thinking about it, I might as well take a look at my surroundings. Maybe where I am isn't as bad as I think. My eyes begin to open. When they do, I immediately take notice of the rusty metal bars a foot in front of me. Bars? Am I in jail? Oh no! I'm in jail! Oh no oh no oh no! I can't be in jail! I can't! Jail isn't built for people like me! I'm small, sweet and kind; I'll be crushed here! What do I do?! How do I get out?! Ok Lydia, think. Well, maybe I can try to door. But then again, pushing up against the door won't do any good. After all, I have no muscles. I'm small, so small a fly could knock me over. Although, to be honest, those things are nasty! I don't want one anywhere near me. But that's off topic. Well, if I can't try the door, then I guess I'm stuck here. But at least I'm stuck by myself. At least I don't have anyone to talk to right? Right? Right... That's right I don't have anyone to talk too... But maybe I won't be here as long. Maybe, if I'm good, I'll get out of here faster. Yeah! Well, I've got something to look forward to now.
Suddenly, loud footsteps begin to echo from the walls. Huh? Is someone running? The footsteps grow louder and louder as someone approaches the room. Then, with a sudden jerk, the door flies open. A woman with soaking wet hair and clothes abrupt steps into the room. With another sudden jerk, she pulls the door back shut. Immediately, my body springs up. With some caution, I approach the woman.
"Hey there! Are you okay? You looked soaked," I say, a small smile forming on my lips. The woman looks up at me. Her blue eyes piercing through me with daggers. Immediately, I step back and throw my hands up. Yikes, she's scary. Maybe I should take a couple steps back. I do so until my back's against the wall.
"Who are you?" She asks, her cold callous voice sending shivers down my spine.
"I'm a... I'm... Lydia Blue..." The smile I had immediately began to disappear. Maybe talking to her was a bad idea. I guess with her, I'll have to keep my distance. The woman's piercing stare disappears. Her eyes look at me thoroughly.
"Your Lydia Blue?" she asks, the frost gone in her voice. I nod. The woman goes to her desk and pulls out a file. I watch as she quick skims through the file, and then throws it back inside her desk. After she reads it, her callous voice suddenly becomes a whisper. While I couldn't catch all of what she said, I did catch some parts of it.
"So this really is her... but how is she... and why did she..." Suddenly, the woman's piercing glare pointed in my direction. Did she catch me eavesdropping? Probably... but then again, how would she know? The woman looks down at her desk. In a flash, she pulls out a set of keys. With the keys in hand, she approached my cell. After a minute of looking through keys, my cell was finally unlocked. My mouth goes to say a word of thanks. However, I was stopped dead in my tracks. The woman pulls out a gun and gives it to me. Curiosity begins to swell inside of me. She's giving me a gun? But why?
"Why are you giving me this?" I ask. The woman looks at me. Her piercing glare changes to an almost unreadable one.
"You'll need this. Outside these doors are monsters. Monsters I'm sure you encountered in New Haven. You'll need this to defend yourself. Please be careful with it Lydia. I don't want you injuring yourself with it." Quietly, I nod. My fingers wrap around the woman's red gun. When they do, the woman turns to leave. But not before I ask for her name.
"What's your name?"
"My name's Aneira. Aneira Blare."
