chapter seventy five
hongjoong woke up the next morning to the sofia the first theme song blasting through his ears. he was a bit confused at first, but then realized he must've forgotten to turn his ringer off when he went to bed the night prior.
he leaned over to check the caller id and he shrieked out loud, sliding his finger across his phone screen and answering it immediately when he read the name displayed on his screen.
"hi seongie!" hongjoong exclaimed, sounding even more bright and bubbly this morning than he usually did.
"hi my love." seonghwa answered in his deep morning voice, sounding like he probably just woke up before calling hongjoong.
"what are you calling me about so early in the morning?" hongjoong asked after he looked over to his clock and noticed it wasn't even nine in the morning yet.
"since i can finally go out with you again i want to take you on a special date tonight." seonghwa answered, hongjoong could feel seonghwa's smile through the phone screen.
"yay, a date! oh wait, should i actually go? hmm... i don't know if you're lying to me or not..." hongjoong sassily replied, already making a joke out of their previous situation.
"joongie! i'm still sorry, please. i love you." seonghwa's voice immediately chirped up, sounding genuinely nervous that hongjoong would say no.
"i'm just messing with you! i have the right to do that, just because i forgave you doesn't mean i'm not still hurt." hongjoong said as he giggled and stood up from his position on his bed.
"of course baby, you have every right to still be upset with me. but i can guarantee that what i have planned tonight will make you very happy. so, do you accept the offer?" seonghwa asked and hongjoong nodded his head rapidly.
"of course i accept your offer!" hongjoong cried out and seonghwa let out a happy sigh on the other end of the call, "what should i wear, and what time should i be ready?"
"wear something fancy. i'll pick you up at five thirty." seonghwa answered, not planning on giving anymore details for the night.
"ooo, exciting! i can't wait to see you seongie." hongjoong said and seonghwa agreed with him.
"i can't wait either. i'll let you go now. bye bye honey, i love you so much." seonghwa said his goodbyes to hongjoong, not forgetting to remind the younger how much he loves him.
"bye seongie!" hongjoong screamed out before ending the phone call and skipping out of his bedroom.
hongjoong ran down the stairs, stomping his feet loudly with each movement. his mother was sitting on the couch, relaxing a bit before she had to leave for work later that evening. she turned her head after hearing the commotion by the stairs and smiled widely when she noticed it was a smiling hongjoong.
"hey baby boy." she greeted her son as he ran over to the couch and attacked his mother in a bone crushing hug.
"mommy, guess what!" hongjoong screamed out, sounding very excited as he spoke.
"what?" chinsun asked as hongjoong let go of her body.
"seongie is taking me on a date tonight! a fancy date!" hongjoong exclaimed with a wide smile on his face.
"oh wow! that's so exciting. do you know where you're going?" hongjoong's mother asked her son as she ran her fingers through his sloppy morning hair, attempting to brush it a bit.
"i have no idea! he just told me to dress nice and to be ready for five thirty. what time do you have to leave for work today?" hongjoong asked, internally praying that his mother would be home to help him get ready for the date.
"you're in luck, i don't have to leave until seven tonight." she smiled and hongjoong's eyes lit up.
"perfect! you can help me with my hair and makeup again!" hongjoong cheered and chinsun nodded her head.
"of course i can. but right now you have to eat breakfast. you can't go on your date on an empty stomach!" she exclaimed and hongjoong immediately shot up and ran towards the kitchen. hongjoong's mother just laughed in response and stood up, following behind hongjoong to make him some eggs.
——
"wow, you're all dressed up today! did you finally make up with hongjoong after breaking his heart for the nth time this month?" seonghwa's mother sassily asked as she noticed seonghwa fixing his hair up in the bathroom.
"don't make fun of me! but yes, i finally made up with him. so now, i'm taking him out to a nice restaurant." seonghwa spoke as he finished straightening his hair, turning around to face his mother who walked into the bathroom with him.
"i'm glad you did, sweetie. he's such a good kid, too good if you ask me. i know for a fact i would've never accepted your apology if i was him." she laughed and seonghwa rolled his eyes, hitting his mother lightly on the arm.
"i mean it, stop making fun of me! i promise i'll never hurt him again, i seriously mean it this time." seonghwa seriously stated and his mother let out a big sigh.
"that's what you said last time but... i won't bring it up again. i like the outfit though." she complimented her son on his outfit, an all black fit with a polka dot suit jacket.
"thank you mom. i really hope he likes it too." seonghwa chuckled as he flattened down his shirt with his hands.
"don't worry, i think he'll love it." she reassured her son with a warm smile.
"oh, before i forget... can i invite him back to the house afterwards? would you mind?" seonghwa asked and his mother shook her head.
"of course that's ok, i don't mind at all." she said back and seonghwa let out a relieved sigh.
"perfect." seonghwa responded and looked down at his phone, "i should head out now. i told him i'd pick him up at five thirty and it's already five fifteen."
"yeah, you should leave now. you better not be late for this date, it's an important one." she said and seonghwa nodded his head in agreement.
"i'll see you later mom." seonghwa said goodbye to his mother and leaned down to give her a quick hug. they broke apart and seonghwa grabbed his phone off the bathroom counter and walked out of the room, leaving his mother behind.
"you better be good tonight, i like that boy!" she called out after him. seonghwa just chuckled and shook his head at her comment, choosing not to answer his mother.
seonghwa grabbed his keys and wallet and opened the front door, locking it behind him as he made his way to his car. he stepped inside and started the engine, quickly making his way to hongjoong's house.
during seonghwa's car ride, he felt the nerves building up inside him. even though hongjoong accepted his apology, there was still that lingering thought that the boy could change his mind any minute.
i feel like i shouldn't go to his house empty handed. what's something i can get quickly? wait... flowers! i should get him flowers!
seonghwa made a quick turnaround in his car and drove to the nearby flower shop. he was thankful that he left as early as he did, otherwise he'd be painfully late to hongjoong's.
seonghwa pulled into the parking lot and quickly turned off his car and stepped out. he ran into the shop like a mad man, startling the small boy behind the counter.
"h-hello sir." the boy greeted with a small wave, stuttering a bit on his words. seonghwa walked up to the counter and smiled at him, feeling a bit bad for scaring the obviously younger boy.
"hey. can i get a regular sized bouquet of red roses?" seonghwa asked and the boy nodded his head yes.
"no problem! would you like to write a card?" the boy asked politely, not looking as scared as he did earlier after hearing how sweet seonghwa was.
"yes please." seonghwa answered kindly.
"ok. you can pick any of the templates in front of you. here's a pen, i'll place it inside the bouquet once you finish." the boy pointed to the templates and seonghwa thanked him as he walked off to make the bouquet.
seonghwa looked at all the temples and was quick to choose one.
this one has strawberries on it... how can i choose anything else?, he thought as he picked it up and began writing.
after about two minutes, the worker came back with a beautiful bouquet of red roses. seonghwa smiled at the boy and handed him the card he finished writing on, allowing him to put the card properly inside the bouquet. after he finished, the boy handed the flowers to seonghwa with a smile.
"here you go!" he chirped out as seonghwa grabbed them.
"thank you..." seonghwa read his name tag, "yang jeongin."
"you're welcome! and i'm sorry if it sounds a little weird, but i noticed the name on the card you wrote. these flowers are for hongjoong, as in kim hongjoong?" jeongin asked and seonghwa nodded his head yes.
"yeah, do you know him?" seonghwa asked, not sure as to how jeongin could know hongjoong when he's never even seen the small boy before.
"he used to be in my classes when he was in eighth grade. i was only a sixth grader at the time. he's a really nice boy, we used to be friends! us and, wooyoung? i think that was his name, but i haven't talked to them since they went to high school. i'm only an eighth grader now, but we'll probably be in class again when i reach high school next year!" jeongin exclaimed and seonghwa's heart bursted at how adorable the little boy sounded when speaking of hongjoong. he now understood why he didn't know jeongin; since seonghwa was three years older than jeongin, he was already in his freshman year of high school when jeongin reached his first year of middle school.
"that's so sweet, jeongin. me and hongjoong are sort of a thing, so i wanted to buy him flowers for our date tonight." seonghwa explained and jeongin smiled widely.
"that's so cute! i like a boy too! his name is hyunjin, but he's a sophomore. i know i have no chance with him, but it's ok! i'll just admire him from a distance." jeongin giggled and seonghwa frowned a bit.
"never say never, jeongin. maybe when you get into high school you can start talking to hyunjin, and who knows what'll happen." seonghwa gave the boy some hop and jeongin shrugged his shoulders.
"i don't know, but we'll see i guess. the flowers come up to fifteen dollars." jeongin said and seonghwa quickly took his wallet out of his back pocket and handed the boy a twenty.
"here you go. keep the change, you're a good kid." seonghwa smiled at the boy.
"thank you! um, what's your name?" jeongin asked shyly.
"seonghwa. park seonghwa." seonghwa answered with a smile.
"thank you park seonghwa. have fun on your date!" jeongin waved goodbye to seonghwa and seonghwa waved back, heading out of the small flower shop and back into his car.
the ride to hongjoong's was quick and easy. when he arrived, he parked his car in front of the boy's house and walked to his door with the flowers in his hand. he rang the bell and heard little footsteps running toward the door. he smiled widely as hongjoong opened the door.
"seongie!" the boy cheered, rushing into seonghwa's arms faster than ever before. seonghwa quickly hugged back, eventually stepping back and handing hongjoong the flowers he bought from him.
"here you go hun. i wanted to get you some roses." seonghwa said and hongjoong screeched out in excitement.
"thank you! let me read the card." hongjoong giggled and picked up the card.
dear my love,
i know i've messed up in the past, plenty of times... but i always want you to know that i love you. no matter what ever happens, you'll always be my one true person. thank you for being you, kim hongjoong.
love, seongie❤️
"seongie, that was so sweet! thank you for the beautiful flowers and message. the card even has strawberries on it, it's perfect for me!" hongjoong giggled and seonghwa nodded his head.
"that's why i picked that card, i knew you'd love the strawberries." seonghwa said and hongjoong smiled.
"well let me give these flowers to my mommy and then we can leave." hongjoong excused himself and walked inside to hand the flowers to his mother which she gladly took and placed in a vase for him. hongjoong waddled back to the door with a smile, ready for a great night ahead of him.
"ready babe?" seonghwa asked and hongjoong lifted his arms up, cheering loudly.
"yes! let's go, bye mommy. i'll see you on monday!" hongjoong screamed and grabbed seonghwa's hand, violently dragging the boy to his car.
since someone asked for a mingi birthday double update, i decided i couldn't say no to that! hope you love it❤️
