Chapter 111
I already know that this week is going to be a crazy whirlwind of activity due to my time crunch. It starts with Jiwoo bringing over a dozen bridal and soulmate bonding ceremony magazines. She literally has to go to her car three times before she manages to bring them all in. I don't think I even fully realize the numerous magazines she has until she tries to fan all of them out on the coffee table in the downstairs living area. She's smart to lay out a selection of both, even though not all of them will fit on the glass top.
"Where should we start?"
I bite my lip in response. How am I supposed to tell her that all these magazines were probably completely unnecessary when I already have an idea of what I want?
"Uh Oh. I know that look. I went way above and beyond what was necessary didn't I?"
I release my lower lip from its prison, and nod hoping she can read the apology in my eyes.
"Well, it's a good thing that these are mostly a selection of magazines that I already had. The others I will just hold onto for inspiration in case I am commissioned to make dresses for others."
"Perhaps even yourself?" I look at her slyly.
"Let's not jump the gun there yet. We literally just had our first set of one on one dates this past week. I think the next step is probably going to be having a three on one date." I can't help but notice she looks nervous at the idea of that aspect.
"I'm sure it will go well. Fate wouldn't have made you all soulmates if they weren't meant to get along and form their own sense of family. Not to mention the fact that they do already know each other fairly well, so that also helps."
She simply nods in response, but I can tell what I said had some impact and decreased some of the tension from her shoulders. "So, once again. Where should we begin?"
I don't worry over reminding her that we already had this discussion pretty recently. She is already going above and beyond what is even remotely necessary by donating so much of her time to me, and getting everything together in only the matter of a week. I chalk it up to the possibility that she might have simply forgotten due to how busy she is not only with me, but also her soulmates now as well.
I look at the magazines again on the glass top of the coffee table. "Hold that thought."
I run upstairs and hunt for the exact item I am looking for. I hold it closely to my chest and bring it back downstairs with me. I hand the frame over to Jiwoo. "Can we pull some inspiration from this?"
"Oh." She examines the image very carefully, but I can tell she knows exactly what she is holding in her hands. "I think we can pull some from this, yes, but are you wanting an exact replica?"
I shake my head. "Not necessarily. You can always modernize it a bit. I just want it to be obvious that the inspiration came from this moment."
"Same color?"
"Absolutely, I may consider the soulmate bonding ceremony more important than a wedding, but I also want to be different. I don't personally want to wear one of the four colors women tend to wear on the day of the ceremony." Red, yellow, blue, and green are the colors used to make models of DNA, and therefore are the four colors women often choose from when deciding on their dress.
Jiwoo scrambles to reorganize the magazines. She removes all the ones that are strictly soulmate bonding ceremonies and creates a separate stack for them. Then she fans out the four that are remaining. "I almost wish I had asked you beforehand. I would have purchased more bridal magazines than this."
I shake my head. "It probably won't be necessary. I am sure between the photo and the magazines we will find the inspiration you need."
She opens a notepad app on her phone and has me go through the magazines. Whenever I see something I like or might work she writes down the page number so she can come back to it. I appreciate that honestly, dog earring a magazine or book is a big no no for me. There isn't too much that pulls my attention, a few pages from each one at most, but Jiwoo assures me that it is more than enough for her to go on.
She then switches gears. "With that done and put behind us. I haven't gotten a good look at your ring yet." I hold my hand out for her. "Wow, per normal Skai went above and beyond what I even expected."
"Skai?" I'm immediately curious about this craftsman.
"He's a good friend of mine. Jin was having issues finding the perfect ring, so I sent him Skai's way."
"Wait, how did Jin know my ring size?" I don't know why this hadn't occurred to me before. I don't even know my own ring size honestly.
"Ah. Well I let Jin borrow a circle of sizers to try out on your finger. He hoped to do it while you were sleeping or something. He was trying to be as secretive as he could about it. I guess the one thing we can be thankful for regarding the club incident is that it gave Jin a possible moment to get your ring size discreetly without you being aware of it."
She pauses for a second as I roll that around in my head. I didn't think there was much of anything from the events that occurred that night that I could take away and appreciate outside of how nice my soulmates looked, and my stunning outfit that Jiwoo helped me select. Now, though I would have to be a bit thankful for the way things turned out in the long run. I still will never be happy they occurred, but at least something positive came out of them.
It's pretty obvious that Jiwoo is trying to get my mind off of that night when she somewhat changes the subject. "Oh, if you like the earrings I got you then you should know that Skai designed those too."
I gasp. "Those were gorgeous! I might have to visit him and see what else he has already made."
"I have a better idea! Why don't I call him now, and we plan on having him design your jewelry for your bonding ceremony?"
I frown. "We only have one week. I feel guilty even having you make a gown for me in that amount of time. I don't know that I would feel easy about a perpetual stranger doing basically the same."
"Oh, true. How about this then? How about we go to his boutique, and you peruse what he has already made? I am sure he could always customize something based on those models easily within that time frame if need be." Jiwoo glances at her watch. "We should probably hit the fabric store though first. I plan on buying up as many bolts of the fabric as possible."
I honestly think she is kidding until we get to the fabric store and she does exactly that. She collects three bolts of the same silky white fabric. Then she adds two bolts of the same sheer white fabric to the cart, I believe it's called tulle. We stop by an area of the sewing section that houses decorative elements. She picks up several different lace applique designs from this section, some are trim so they come in a spool like ribbon, but most are single designs and the ones she likes the best she grabs multiple of. She also snatches a whole roll of silver metallic ribbon. Surprisingly after she takes them up to the cash register she mutters. "I hope this will be enough."
After we get in her car she makes a quick phone call to Skai. She doesn't really let on the purpose behind the call, only asking if he is at the boutique he works at today. When we arrive he is already waiting for us, and I am exceptionally shocked when he immediately throws his arms around me. "You brought Daisy!" He practically shouts jubilantly above my head.
"Well, she does have a ceremony to start planning." I can't see Jiwoo since she is standing behind me, but something tells me that she just might have an evil glint in her eye.
He pushes himself back out of the embrace and practically jumps up and down in excitement. "Ooh, I wanna see how the ring looks on your finger!" He grabs my hand and studies the ring he designed for me. "Yes, I must say I definitely outdid myself." Then he proceeds to literally give himself a pat on the back, which I can't help but chuckle at.
"I also really loved the earrings that Jiwoo purchased for me. She said you made those too?" I ask eagerly, unable to keep my excitement completely at bay. I think this man before me might just be stoking that excitement like a flame somehow.
"Oh, yes absolutely. Wait! Did you need accessories for the event?!?! Omg! I would love to design those too!!" He positively gushes.
"Um, it's only a week away. How about we look at your premade designs first and go from there?"
"Beautiful and a sweetheart, no wonder you won the hearts of seven of the most popular and handsome men in the world. Girl, I can't help but be a little jelly honestly." I had an inkling due to his mannerisms and aggressive excitement, but I am pretty sure his statement cinched it. I don't prejudge people though so I will let him announce to me whether he is actually gay or not.
"Hey! You have your own soulmate mark! You just haven't bothered to search for him yet!" Jiwoo exclaims.
Skai shrugs his shoulders. "I mean it is what brought me to Korean after all."
"What do you mean?" I ask him. I'm honestly curious, and realize that somehow I'm already considering Skai a newfound friend even within the tiny frame of time knowing him.
He takes off his elaborate blazer and removes the equally elaborate collar chain that I am sure he probably designed himself. He unbuttons a few buttons and shows me a soulmate mark shaped like a postage stamp. It has three images on it: an evergreen tree, pink hibiscus flowers, and a magpie. "I don't understand why this would direct you to Korea?"
"The magpie is the country bird. The hibiscus the flower. I might not have known exactly what kind of tree that was initially, but because of the two other items I was able to work out that it has to be a Korean red pine tree."
Jiwoo nods her head. "The one thing he is torn up about is the fact that his mark is a stamp."
"Yeah, I can only guess he collects stamps which makes me think this soulmate of mine must be a nerd or something." He sighs. "Definitely not my usual type at all."
"What if he is simply a closet nerd? He collects stamps because it was a familial hobby or something like that." I suggest to him.
"Girl, I like the way you think." He turns to Jiwoo. "Can I keep her?"
"First of all, she was my sister first. Secondly, I am pretty sure her seven soulmates would be opposed to that idea." Jiwoo smirks at him.
"Gah, fine." He throws his arms up in the air and acts as if he is exceptionally put out by this fact. Before I can respond to his over the top outburst he takes my hand and drags me over to the glass case showcasing his artistic pieces. "I do have more in the back also in case you don't see something you like here."
I glance down at the case and find myself immediately flabbergasted. "I think the bigger problem here is that there isn't anything in here that I don't like."
He grins at me. "Good answer. You flatter me, doll. I think I might just have to keep you around for my self esteem." His smile grows even more radiant. "Hand me your phone. I am totally adding myself to your contacts." I don't even hesitate to do as he asks, because honestly I want to have his number. I might have a few new "sisters" but I could most definitely also use a new friend.
"I think we should plan out something to do together the night before the ceremony. Perhaps, we should have a sleepover or something. Invite all of your sister-in-laws over and make a night of it." Jiwoo grins at me.
"Does that mean I would have to get my soulmates out of the house?" I frown at her.
"I'm sure they probably already planned on sleeping elsewhere the night before anyway. I can pretty much bet they know how much of a traditionalist you are regarding this sort of thing."
That's honestly a fair assumption, and she is more than likely right. I still don't like the idea of them having to find a place to stay overnight though. Hell, I don't like the idea of them not being under the same roof as me for the night at all.
I sigh. "I'll ask them tonight what their plan is regarding Friday night. If they do indeed tell me that they plan on sleeping at a hotel or something, then I will plan out something for the night before. But, I am not going to kick them out of their own house if they hadn't already planned to sleep elsewhere."
