Chapter 25
A fire pulses in my heart.
One that has been burning bright for almost two years.
A powerful flame pushing me to protect my brother at all costs.
And when the Phantom door opened, revealing Ezra unconscious and injured, the protective instinct was dialed to eleven. The flame burst into a raging wildfire.
Throwing me to Ezra and holding him in my arms, making me realize how bad his condition was. Bringing tears to my eyes, drowning out all the noise.
His heart beat was slow, spirit fading away.
He was on the brink of death.
"Fawn? Fawn!"
Fawn snapped out of her horror, looking up at Hera.
"We have to move him."
"R-Right, yeah l-let's go" Fawn shook herself.
Focus Bridger
Zeb bent down, waiting for Fawn to hand Ezra over. The Gray Jedi carefully placed her brother in the Lasat's arms, feeling sick from his blood that she'd been kneeling in. The purple giant took off in a sprint towards the med-bay, Fawn, Kanan and Hera in tow, their dragons right behind.
Colour Fly, Torch and Leo stood back at the edges of the landing zone.
"Once Whiplash wakes up we need to ask him what happened" Leo said, serious for once.
"If the Empire did this, I'm going to get revenge for it" Colour Fly growled, tail swishing.
Torch placed his talons over the Fire Horn's. "I'm with you on that one" he said firmly.
Leo looked back to the med-bay. "Colour Fly?"
"What?"
Leo flinched at the snarl. "Did you want to go see Whiplash -?"
Torch's tail prodded him sharply in the ribs, his eyes narrowed in a way that quite clearly said; don't make her go, you can see the state she's in
Leo got the message. "It was just a suggestion, never mind..." he trailed off and fell silent, sitting shoulders hunched.
"I might soon" Colour Fly mumbled after a beat of quiet. "Not now, I'll give Sabine a moment to patch him up-"
Her voice cracked.
Torch rested his chin atop Colour Fly's head, a wing wrapping around her body. He crooned quietly, a gentle reassurance.
The two Fire Horn's had a sibling like relationship, it wasn't out of the ordinary for Torch to treat Colour Fly in this manner.
"He'll be okay" Torch murmured.
Colour Fly could only nod.

Oh god there was so much blood. It dripped down the hallway, following Zeb like a scarlet trail. Fawn didn't dare look down. She knew she'd throw up. The dragons had all shrunk, galloping down the hall alongside their riders.
The med-bay was already set up for Ezra where he was placed on a gureny. An oxygen mask was strapped on his face while Hera grabbed some gloves from the cabinets.
"Moonshine, get me a vile of dragon tears. Kyber, Bludgeon, Hurricane, Zeb, get out" Hera ordered.
The Lasat decided not to argue, allowing Hurricane to leap up into his shoulder. Fawn placed a hand on Ezra's sweaty forehead.
"His aura's weak, we need to act fast" she said, internally freaking out. "H-He's not going to s-survive if we don't-"
"Fawn, calm down," Kanan took a sturdy hold on her hand, grounding her firmly.
Fawn froze. Only now realizing how rushed her breathing had become. "R-Right" she inhaled deeply. "Sorry."
"It's alright, we're all worried. Moonshine will clean him up, and Hera will deal with the toxins. Go outside alright? I'll be with you in a moment "
"O...okay."

Fawn leant against the wall, arms crossed defensively against her chest.
The hallway was quiet.
Too quiet since the action merely minutes before.
Any rebel that had passed merely saluted to her instead of greeting her with the familiar; 'general'. And even if they had, Fawn didn't hear them, too caught up in thoughts.
She glared at the floor like she wanted to fight it. Anxiety and fear pulsing through her body relentlessly.
It took one transmission from Chopper to send the base into a frenzy of worry. Fawn in particular. The droid had never sounded so terrified before...
"Fawn run through the lists again" Hera said from piles of data pads. "Maybe we missed something."
"Hera, my god, I've looked five times, there's nobody out there" Fawn rubbed at her eyes tiredly. "The pilots are gone. The Empire must've excuted them."
"They wouldn't have. Might've kept them alive as bait to try and draw us in."
"The dragons have raided every prison they could this side of the galaxy" Fawn took a swig of her kaff. "They were all slaves, we've been over this. Logan took them back to their homes and the ones who didn't have anywhere to go, to Kabera. Hera, we need to quit the search. They're gone."
The Twe'lik sighed, pressing her face into her hands. "I don't know Fawn..."
The Gray Jedi glanced over at the pilot, her heart twinging. Setting down her mug she stood from her seat. Going over to Hera she placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
"War isn't easy, it never will be," she said gently.
"Believe me, I know" Hera exhaled, patting Fawn's hand.
Fawn gently squeezed Hera's shoulder in what she hoped was a comforting action.
"How you think our boys are doing?" She decided to change the subject.
"Hard to say, I'm a little worried though. It's been four hours, I would've thought they'd call in by now" Hera replied, finishing off her kaff.
"Eh, they're boys. Teenagers. You know how they are" Fawn waved a hand dismissively. "Either they forgot to check in or they've blown up the Phantom."
"If they have, they're buying a new one."
Fawn chuckled, stacking the pads neatly. "Don't count on it, jobs with good pay are hard to get out here."
"I didn't say we had to pay for one...stealing one shouldn't be too hard" Hera grinned.
"Oh my god, Hera" Fawn laughed, face palming. "No."
"Just a suggestion" the Twe'lik said a little too innocently.
"Sometimes I really worry about you Hera" Fawn stifled her giggle behind her hand.
The transmission alarm blared, making Fawn jolt in surprise, successfully knocking the tidy stack of data pads down like a house of cards.
Fawn slapped her forehead, "Oh son of a-"
Hera pressed the accept button and a image of Chopper popped up, successfully cutting off Fawn's curse in the process.
"Oh Chopper, how goes the mission?"
The droid spun his head, loudly warbling while gesturing wildy.
"Woah woah woah slow down Chopper" Hera exclaimed, "calm down what's going on?"
The droid beeped frantically and both women froze.
'Ezra and Whiplash are injured! They breathed in the toxins of the mushrooms! Hera they're going to die!"

A hand rested firmly on Fawn's shoulder making her flinch at the sudden contact.
"I felt it too" Kanan murmured. "He's not doing good."
"That's an understatement" Fawn crossed her arms tightly. "He's-"
"On death's doorstep" Kanan finished quietly. "But don't give up on him, he's stronger than people give him credit for."
"I'm not giving up on him, I never will" Fawn growled.
Kanan squeezed her shoulder before letting go. "I know."
Fawn leant against the wall, breathing out slowly. God, everything was falling apart the moment it came together.
"You want to go check on Whiplash?" Kanan asked. "He might be awake now."
Fawn hesitated but then nodded. She wasn't much good here anyway. Kanan resumed his firm but reassuring grip on Fawn's shoulder, leading her to Whiplash's quarters in the med-bay.
Sabine's head snapped up as the door opened and Fawn was surprised to see her eyes were red.
"Sabine? Is everything okay? Is Whiplash alright?" Fawn was fast to be by the girl's side, locking eyes with her.
"I did what you said" Sabine mumbled, "I used the sedative."
Fawn looked down on Whiplash's sleeping, battered form. "He woke up?"
Sabine nodded. "Got distraught, wanted to see Ezra..."
"You did good using the sedative" Fawn squeezed Sabine's shoulders gently. "Poor thing's been through hell today, can't have him using up energy worrying when he needs to restore it."
"He was so scared Fawn."
That caught the Gray Jedi off guard. "What? Why?"
"H-He said...he said Ezra was going to die-"
"Hera won't let him" Kanan stated. "Plus he's too stubborn to die."
Sabine swallowed before exhaling slowly. "R-Right."
Fawn put an arm around Sabine's shoulders, smiling a fraction when the Mandalorian leant her head on her shoulder.
"You did good patching him up, his back was practically mangled."
Sabine winced. "I had to heal it with Dragon Tears, h-he screamed so loud-"
Fawn sympathetically rubbed Sabine's shoulder. "He'll be okay" she promised. "Both of them will be."
Sabine nodded without a word.
______________________________
How much time had passed? An hour? Two?
Fawn honestly didn't know.
She was leaning against the wall, subconsciously scuffing her boot across the polished floor. Kanan sat on in a chair, eyes closed meditating. Sabine sat cross-legged on the ground, rolling a coin between her fingers in an attempt of entertainment. Colour Fly was lying beside Whiplash, head lying between her claws and a wing draped over Whiplash's form.
She'd arrived as soon as Sabine commed her to say Whiplash was okay. The Fire Horn had barely said a word, only lying beside her lover and crooning quietly.
Sabine didn't try to talk to the distressed female. She'd probably get burned hair or something.
The door suddenly swung open making them all look up at once.
Hera gave a weary smile, lekku hanging limply.
"He's stable."
Fawn could've collapsed right then and there with relief. Anxiety and adrenaline had been holding her up for the past thirty minutes.
Kanan sighed, similarly relieved, a tired smile pulling at his lips. Sabine shook her head, mumbling something about how she was going to punch Ezra for how much he scared her. Colour Fly sighed, wiping at her eyes quickly.
Fawn ran a hand over her face, letting herself relax for the first time in hours. "That kid's gonna give me grey hair before I'm in my forties."
A soft groan made the four of them look over. Whiplash was slugishly opening his eyes, pupils hazy.
"Hey, hey Whiplash" Colour Fly gently kissed Whiplash's head. "You feeling okay?"
"Msweeps" Whiplash slurred.
"What was that?"
"I'm sleepy" the response came out clearer but still drowsy.
"You can rest easy, Ezra's alright" Fawn spoke. "He's stable."
"Hmmph? Stable? Oh....OH!" Whiplash instantly became more alert. "He's actually okay? He's not gonna die?"
"No, he's alright" Hera promised.
"Oh good" Whiplash slumped on the bed. "Gonna slap that idiot as soon as I can walk again, then I'm gonna hug him...yeah...he likes hugs.....so do I" Whiplash giggled a little.
"Still a little loopy then, huh?" Colour Fly smiled.
Whiplash smiled sheepishly. "Yeah..."
"That's alright, get some sleep, it's been a long day."
"Beemistehhh" Whiplash smooshed his face into the bed mattress, mumbling nonsense.
The others chucked lightly, the tense air evaporating with each passing second.
The chaos was finally over.
