Chapter 4

Eclipsed 4: Meeting River

Apollo's POV

I watched the Flareon run after Blossom. "I'm going to get some Vaporeons, are there any nearby?"

She nodded. "Not too far from here is a lake house where three are living." She gestured with her poofy tail.

"Thanks!" I called before running off.
When I reached the home the Flareon was taking about, I saw no Vaporeons anywhere. Not in the lake or outside at all. I reminded myself that there had just been an earthquake and everyone was still recovering from the shock.

I walked up a wooden staircase to the porch. It had a swing and the walls were a sky blue. I knocked on the royal purple door.

A little Vaporeon answered. He looked extremely young to have evolved already; he was probably one of the first of his generation.

I reminded myself that the young must be treated differently than full-grown Pokémon. I bent over, making myself look smaller and less intimidating and I gave him a gentle smile. "Hello. My name is Apollo. May I speak to the eldest one, please?"

He stared up at me with dark blue eyes before shutting the door.

I knew not to jump to conclusions and, sure enough, I heard a few voiced coming from inside the house. "River! There's an Umbreon who wants to talk!"

I heard a few footsteps, in the background at first, and then getting louder. The door opened and Shiny Vaporeon appeared, the younger one sneaking glances at me from behind her. "Hello?"

"Hi, I'm Apollo. Nice to meet you."

"River. What do you need?"

"Well, it's kind of a long story, but Blossom and her friend's house is on fire..."

River nodded. "Blue, we're going to Fawn and Shock's!"

Another Vaporeon, a bit younger than me, ran from a cream hallway and skidded to a stop to the side of River. The little one crawled on River's back.
We dashed off. When we reached the cottage, River gasped. I cringed, wishing I had warned her.

Blossom was sitting in front of her house, biting her tail with anxiety. When she saw me there was a look of wonder and curiosity about how I got the Vaporeons here so fast, but she knew there wasn't any time to ask questions. She turned to the house and called, "Ember! Get out! River and her brothers are going to put out the fire!"

She appeared a minute later, carrying a few things.

After the fire had been put out and River was heading home with her siblings, Ember showed Espeon some things that she had salvaged. When they were done, I walked over and said, "I think we should go to town. My friends have set up a rescue camp there."

She nodded and said with a muffled voice, "Whts yr nme? Mn's Blssm."
I managed to understand her, given experience. "Nice to officially meet you, Blossom! I'm Apollo."
