Chapter XII

The man was dead, at least what was left of him. What the hell had I seen was that in his innermost thoughts? Blood and drool slipped off my body as I wiped it off my face, disgusting. I stood up, surveying what was around me. Creatures laid dead, their bodies still not comprehending what had happened to them. My men lay dead on the ground amongst them only two had survived.

Enêpsigos stood there with not a single wound upon her, while the same could not be said about Zikshita. Her body was covered in wounds and blood. She struggled to hold the weapon in her hand as it fell to the ground after seeing me.

"Master," she said to me.

"How long had I been in there?" the words slipped from my mouth as I walked forward. My body felt strange, but this time I was fine.

"Five hours, they fought well to keep you safe."

I turned my head to her as I looked over the men that had died for me. This lost, it stung me. So many dead and still so many more to go. It seemed the goal was getting outside of my reach.

"Zikshita stay here, heal, feast on what's left of their remains and then head home."

"Master, I must protect you. There is no one else."

I clenched my hand. "Why don't you ever listen?! Listen to me Zora..."

Zikshita looked at me, perplexed. I rubbed my hand on my face. "Do what I say, go back, rest, and bring the rest of the men that are there."

She nodded her head up and down.

I stepped forward, not looking at her. "Great, you already know how to find me."

"Enêpsigos where to next?"

From above the city, it looked beautiful, albeit destroyed. I followed quietly behind Enêpsigos. She had hidden that ugly form of hers as she travelled gracefully in the sky. One would think she was some great beauty, but all she was, was a demon in disguise. Who was next it didn't matter, I would power my way through, regardless.

Nothing would be able to stop me or get in my way. Her body rose up as she hovered above a spot in the sky, making me come to a stop. She pointed down towards a few buildings. Outside them were hordes and hordes of monsters forming a circle. Their behaviour was strange, although I remembered seeing this once before. The last time it happened it was with Rainbow, but it looked nothing like then. The creatures were in fear of these ones. They looked as if they were waiting to steal prey.

"What's inside that building?" I asked her.

She smiled, "What you sought the most and what you asked me for."

"Alice," I shot through the sky like a bullet towards the building.

Contact was made with the ground with a roaring thud that caused those nearby to be launched into the sky from the impact.

"Alice?" I called, not sure which building she was in.

I sent a powerful aura across those lingering enough to make them cower away. All but one creature that rushed out towards me. It had three hands, a piercing white left eye. Its tongue resided outside of its mouth and moved like a snake dipping its head up and down.

"Where is my daughter?" I asked as my wings shook furiously.

"Domenic?" It questioned me.

"How do you know my name?" I said as I rushed it.

My hand swung left to rip off its head, but it ducked under, and before a follow up could be done it kicked me back, sending me tumbling into the creatures that were foolish enough not to leave. I collided into them and the fallen building crushed them into paste.

Rage took me as I thought about what might have been her fate. How dare you, how dare you all move against me?

She rushed towards me, but before we could get to each other. Enêpsigos landed in the centre and one word caused me to stop mid-flight.

"Daddy."

I turned my head to the voice and was surprised to see Andrew, my daughter, and Eric.

The creature, however, did not stop as it collided with me. Sneering in rage, it gripped me by my clothes as its tongue ran over me. Shrieking, but not attacking. It almost seemed like it was trying to say something in words that I couldn't make out. It might be best to kill it and take it out of its own misery. It reminded me of those freaks.

I raised my hands to it.

"That's enough Domenic, you should thank your dear friend Ash for helping saving your friends."

"Ash?" I looked at her face. There was nothing there that looked like her.

I had to kill her, don't I?

"No, you don't unless you're a puppet on a string."

She could read my thoughts too?

Not just predict the future. We have been here before Domenic far many times than you could remember.

What do you mean?

"Let me up, Ash," I said to her.

She relented as my daughter came running to me without the slightest fear in the world. Was this because she was so young? Eric came walking out too. His body was small, weak, and frail. I looked around as many people came out from the building, ten, twenty, thirty. The cooks would have a field day seeing all of this.

Daddy, she said, ignoring the huge wings on my back.

I reverted slowly back to my normal appearance as I picked her up in my arms. This feeling that I got. It was great, it made me forget that Andrew for a moment was standing right there.

The people came and gathered around Enêpsigos they seemed mystified or maybe they thought she was an angel. If such a thing actually existed.

Only a few came to Ash. She always had a thing for protecting worthless people.

"Domenic it is hard to believe that's you. I keep telling myself this is a dream, that everything isn't real but what is really going on? What are you exactly?"

"Eric, I really don't have the answers," I pointed, "she might have more than I do, after all, she can see the future."

Eric laughed as he placed a hand to his head. "Seeing the future, demons, angels, monsters and things that shouldn't exist. I can't keep up with this at all."

My eyes glanced at Andrew, but he said nothing in return, just stood there. He looked at his worse. I was honestly surprised that he had managed to survive for so long. That luck of his didn't seem to run out, perhaps I should have him for soup later.

Alice juggled around in my hands. "Daddy, you have to save Mommy. She was in the castle too, a castle in the sky."

A castle in the sky. I knew exactly where she meant. Does this mean Enêpsigos was right?

She stepped forward, walking towards me. "Now then," she smiled as the others followed her, kneeling and praying towards her.

I chucked to myself. These fools, they think they found a saviour. It made sense why they had chosen to gather around her.

"Did you know that the girl also took the power of Cassis? She saved these people from there ill faith and held on to her humanity to the very end. Very interesting, very unique for someone who didn't form another contract with Lilith. She chooses to eat monsters instead of humans. She chooses to suffer instead of giving in."

Enêpsigos was now standing before me.

Ash got up off the ground, but her body seemed more like a midget as I noticed the two small wings that she had on her back.

"We don't have much time and we have to reverse this, " she pointed towards Ash.
