always prepare the worst and never trust people
NADIA CLENCHES HER jaw as she peers down at the dead bodies. It isn't because she's disgusted or angry—more like she's surprised that Rick would shoot two people dead that quickly with no hesitation or remorse.
She has killed before. Once. Her adoptive father, only because he had hurt her little brother. That changed something in her, and she hasn't been the same since. She always tries to push the growing darkness down, but it keeps festering and she fears the day it takes over.
"Holy shit," Glenn breathes.
"You okay?" Rick's voice carries over, making Nadia look up to see him glancing at her with concerned eyes.
She nods, swallowing thickly. "I'm good, Ranger Rick." She pushes her dark hair out of her face, her gaze landing on Hershel who is blinking down at the bodies. "Hey, old man, you good?"
Hershel simply nods his head, life coming back to his drunken eyes. He is slowly coming back to the reality of being sober.
After a moment of silence, Rick speaks, "Let's head back." He bends down and grabs Tony's gun from his dead body, while Glenn goes to search Dave's body.
As they begin walking toward the double doors that lead outside of the bar, a headlight shines through the windows, alerting the group.
Nadia dives into cover underneath the door, Rick and Glenn to her right, and Hershel to her left.
"Dave? Tony?" Someone calls from outside.
Nadia tenses, looking over to make eye contact with Glenn who is breathing heavily.
"I heard shots from over here," says another voice.
"I saw roamers two streets over," a third voice speaks. "Okay, we stick close and search the area. We'll find them."
After the voices disappear, Nadia peaks outside through the windows for a second, seeing nothing.
Glenn breathes in deeply. "Why won't they leave?"
Nadia shoots him a look. "Would you?" She shakes her head, moving her hand slowly to grab her knife from her combat boot. She keeps her axe in its sheath. "We can't stay here..."
Rick nods in agreement. "Nadia's right. Let's head out the back and make a run to the car."
Just as they get up to move, several gunshots go off outside the building. "I got it!" A guy yells out. "Just a roamer."
"Okay," one of the three men says. "I cleared those buildings. You guys get this one?"
"No."
"We're looking for Dave and Tony and no one checks the damn bar?!" One of the men shouts in disbelief.
Suddenly, footsteps are approaching the building and Nadia tenses. As the door starts to slide open, she leaps in front of the doors just as Glenn does. They both slam it shut with their bodies, their back against it.
"Fuck," Nadia gasps out quietly, too quiet for anyone else to hear except for Glenn who glances at her with wide brown eyes.
One of the men outside gasps. "What the hell was that? I swear someone pushed that door shut on me," he states in shock. "Yo!" He shouts, banging on the door. "Is someone in there?! If someone's in there, we don't want no trouble. We're just looking for our friends. If something happened to them, just tell us."
Another guy snickers. "Dude, there's no one in there."
"Someone is. What do we do?"
"Bum rush the door?"
"No!" the first man snaps. "We don't know how many there are." He bangs on the door again. "This place is crawling with corpses. If you can help us not get killed, I'd appreciate it!"
After a pause, there are more footsteps.
Nadia's wild eyes lock with Rick's and she quickly shakes her head as she notices him begin to cave in. His jaw ticks and his eyes take in their surroundings before he clears his throat.
"They drew on us!" Rick yells and the people outside go dead silent. Nadia exhales and closes her eyes while Glenn tenses up. "Dave and Tony are dead. Your friends drew on us! They gave us no choice! I'm sure we've all lost enough people, done things we wish we didn't have to, but it's like that now, you know that!"
There is silence for a few seconds which has Nadia shuffling to get in a proper crouched position, ready to fight if it comes down to it.
"Come on, man, let's go," one of the men ushers the others.
"No, I'm not leaving, I'm not telling Jane. I'm not gonna go back and tell them that Dave and Tony got shot by some assholes in a bar," one of the other men spits out in anger.
Nadia sighs and looks over at Rick, as if telling him, 'You're stupid for even trying' with just her eyes.
Suddenly, a gunshot goes off, and glass goes flying all over the place. Quickly, without thinking, Nadia dives over Glenn who is the closest person to her. This one move results in glass flying towards her face—a stray piece of glass slides across her brow, drawing blood.
Rick rises to his feet and fires back at the men. "Get outta here!" He shouts, glancing over at them.
Glenn grips Nadia's bicep and pulls her along with him towards the bar where he ducks and hides, trying to bring her with him. She shakes him off and shoots him an incredulous look.
"You have no gun," he hisses at her, bringing her down by gripping her shoulder, and she moves just in time as a bullet hits the wall her head was just in front of.
Nadia narrows her eyes and eyes the shotgun in his hand. "Give me yours."
"What? No." Glenn shakes his head, eyes wide, flinching as another shot rings out.
Nadia clenches her jaw and peaks around the corner to see Rick dive to the floor, trying desperately to get away from the gunfire.
Glenn groans and hands her the handgun he took from Dave's dead body, Nadia taking it and holding it close to her chest with a wicked grin.
Nadia stands up and positions the gun out in front of her on the counter, eyes narrowing as she tries to find any movement through the broken windows. She sees a shadow in one of the windows, the outline of a gun appearing near the face.
Sucking in a shaky breath, she places her finger on the trigger and pulls it. The person shouts and falls backwards, putting a hand on their shoulder.
Nadia ducks right back behind the counter, chest heaving up and down as adrenaline courses through her veins. She knows for a fact that all this noise is going to draw the attention of walkers, and it's going to make it that much harder to get out of this place.
"This sucks!" Nadia shouts in annoyance and rage. Both Glenn and Hershel nod in agreement.
Rick glances back at the three of them, looking panicked. But there's also something else in his eyes—determination.
"Hey!" Rick yells out to the group outside, digging into his pocket for ammo. "We all know this is not gonna end well! There's nothing in it for any of us! You guys just... back off, no one else gets hurt!"
Silence follows after his demand, but all of a sudden, there's a noise from the back room of the building.
Rick signals for Glenn and Nadia to check it out, so they slowly make their way to the garage that barely has anything left in it—having been looted.
Nadia tilts her head, listening—a faint clicking noise by the back door. They look towards it to see a shadow outside the window. The person is trying to break in through it.
Nadia lifts the gun and pulls the trigger. Glass shatters and the sound of running shortly after.
"Glenn! Nadia!"
"We're okay!" Glenn shouts back, his voice rising to a higher pitch. He's nervous and scared. "We're okay..."
They hide on either side of the door, guns raised, waiting just in case anyone else tries to break in. Upon hearing a noise, they point their guns at the person who steps forward, but it's only Hershel.
Hershel looks at Glenn as he speaks, "Rick wants you to try for the car."
Glenn freezes and stares at him incredulously. "Try?" He asks nervously.
Nadia opens her mouth, about to protest and offer that she can do it, but Hershel beats her to it, "You'll try and succeed," he encourages, nodding. "Nadia and I will cover you."
Glenn nods nervously and moves towards the door. Nadia finds herself reaching for him absently, gripping his arm, fingers digging lightly into his skin. He turns to her with wide eyes, swallowing thickly.
"I won't let anyone touch you, okay?" She says with conviction, maintaining eye contact.
Glenn nods and walks towards the door, swinging it open slowly and stepping into the dark alley.
As Nadia leans out of the doorway slightly, a gunshot fires off—narrowly missing her face—and hits the ground near Glenn who lets out a loud grunt and ducks into cover behind a dumpster.
Turning around, Nadia fires at the guy who almost hit both her and Glenn, the bullet hitting him in the leg. He falls to the ground, screaming in pain.
Rick appears behind them. "What happened?" He asks, his eyes wide, making his way around Hershel towards Nadia, blue eyes looking her up and down.
"He fired," Hershel says slowly, gesturing to the screaming man who is holding his leg. "Nadia shot him... Must've hit Glenn."
The Slayer turns and without giving any warning at all, she takes off into the alley towards Glenn, narrowly dodging a bullet.
She skids to the ground beside Glenn, breath coming out in pants. She lets her eyes take him in, to make sure he isn't bleeding. "Are you okay?"
Rick is there suddenly, pushing up against the other side of Glenn with wide, concerned eyes.
Nadia peaks around the corner of the dumpster in the direction of where she shot the guy in the leg, spotting multiple walkers emerging from the woods, drawn in by the yelling and the gunfire.
"Fuck! Shit!" She curses. "Walkers!" She turns back to Glenn, reaching out to rest a hand on his shoulder. "Are you okay? Are you hit?!"
Glenn shakes his head. "No, no."
Rick sighs and nods. "It's alright, you're fine," he says simply. "The car is right there. We're almost home." He pauses. "You good?"
"I'm good," Glenn answers, nodding.
"Are you sure?" Nadia leans forward, searching his eyes. He blinks up at her, making eye contact before nodding again.
"Let's go!" Rick yells.
They move out into the open street and are immediately shot at again. They quickly duck back behind a car, looking up to see a boy on a roof.
Suddenly, a car screeches by, stopping by the building the boy is on. "Let's get out of here!" Someone in the car shouts up to him. "Just jump!"
The boy goes to jump but trips, landing on the fence that separates two buildings. He lets out a blood-curdling scream, the sound piercing the night air.
The car that is supposed to catch him drives off, making the boy scream even louder.
Nadia shakes her head, not surprised, but her eyes widen when Rick runs off towards the boy. "Rick," she hisses out through gritted teeth.
"Nadia!"
She swivels around to see about six walkers feasting on the man she shot only moments ago. She growls and rushes towards Glenn and Hershel, joining them in shooting down the walkers.
"There's nothing we can do!" Nadia shouts after she shoots down three walkers and more appear. "There's too many." She shakes her head, shooting two more before lowering her weapon and patting Hershel and Glenn on the shoulder. "Come on!"
They run across the street towards Rick who is trying to help out the boy with his leg impaled by the fence.
"We have to go, Rick!" Nadia yells, reaching out and yanking on his arm. "Come on!"
The boy lets out a cry of pain. "No!" He screams, his eyes wide with pain and fear as he looks up at her.
"You don't get a say, dickwad," she spits, briefly looking at him before turning to Rick. "He just shot at us. Leave him to fend for himself!"
The boy continues to cry out, "No, no, don't leave me please."
"We can't leave him!" Rick protests, his eyes wide as he stares at Nadia in disbelief.
The girl who saved him from a walker the very first day they met, who couldn't leave him to fend for himself... is now telling him to abandon a boy. Albeit he was shooting at them, but still.
"He was just shooting at us!" Glenn hisses, agreeing with Nadia, looking over his shoulder as he aims the gun in the air towards the small herd of walkers in the distance.
"He's a kid," Rick argues, shaking his head.
Nadia shrugs. "And kids can be killers just like adults," she fires back, spitting out the words. "He was just aiming to kill us. Why should we help him?"
"This place is crawling with walkers!" Glenn yells, hoping to get a move on.
"We can't leave him!" Rick repeats, narrowing his eyes.
"The fence went clean through. There's no way we can get the leg off in one piece," Hershel informs Rick. He tries to move his leg a little, but the boy just cries out even more.
"Oh, my god!" Nadia groans, shooting at a few walkers who are getting too close for comfort.
"Can't we just take the leg off?" Glenn asks Hershel and everything goes silent. The kid is breathing heavily but quiets down when that question is asked.
"That hatchet still in the car?" Rick asks, but the kid starts panicking and crying out again which makes Nadia close her eyes and groan loudly.
"This is just bullshit," Nadia grunts angrily and stomps towards the kid. She grabs his leg and quickly hoists it off the spike, making him scream out in pain. "There."She turns to the others who look at her with wide eyes. "Can we go now?"
DAWN IS JUST breaking by the time they arrive back at the farm. Everyone is already out and about, looking like a few of them are packing up a car to leave.
Nadia groans, slapping the boy's unconscious body away from her as she opens the back door. Through the windows, she sees how Hershel opens his arm for Maggie but she just ignores him and crosses her arms.
"Dad!" Carl shouts, attacking his father with a hug.
Nadia sighs and looks up at Glenn in surprise to see him opening the door wider for her and watching her with concerned eyes.
She raises a brow and winces as she feels the cut she got from the glass moving and pulling at the skin around it. It's almost completely healed by now, but it still twinges.
She gets out of the car, shuffling on her feet as she notices everyone's attention is suddenly on her.
"Nadia!" Carl yells, making the nineteen-year-old Helsing girl look up with wide eyes. The boy runs into her arms and she stumbles backwards in shock, her eyebrows furrowing together. "Are you okay?"
Nadia nods and gives him a small smile. "All good here, buckaroo."
Carl giggles at the name. "What's a buckaroo?"
He's interrupted by Daryl who grunts out a question, "What happened out there?"
Nadia looks up at him, noticing his focus is mostly on her, his lips turned down into a frown and his eyes full of concern.
She lets out a long sigh. "A lot," was her simple answer, absently running her hand through Carl's dark hair.
T-Dog frowns in confusion and points at the car. "Who the hell is that?" He's talking about the boy in the backseat who has a makeshift blindfold over his eyes.
Nadia rolls her eyes and huffs. "That's Rick's pet, Randall."
EVERYONE IS NOW gathered in the farmhouse dining room, discussing the Randall situation.
"We couldn't just leave him behind. He would've bled out if he lived that long," Rick informs everyone as they spread out amidst the dining room.
"I wanted to leave him behind," Nadia grumbles as she leans on the wall beside Glenn.
"It's gotten bad in town," Glenn comments, wiping a hand down his face.
"What do we do with him?" Andrea asks, crossing her arms.
"I repaired his calf muscle as best I can, but he'll probably have nerve damage. Won't be on his feet for at least a week," Hershel explains, wiping his hands clean of Randall's blood with a cloth.
"When he is, we give him a canteen, take him out to the main road, send him on his way," Rick says, glancing at everyone in the room. His eyes linger on Nadia, blue eyes sliding across her face, lingering on the dried blood on her eyebrow.
"Isn't that the same as leaving him for the walkers?" Andrea questions as Daryl walks in through the front door.
"He'll have a fighting chance," Rick states as Nadia's attention is drawn to Daryl who has his arms crossed and is leaning against the wall.
"Just gonna let him go? He knows where we are!" Shane says.
"He was blindfolded the whole way here. He's not a threat," Rick argues, glaring at Shane.
"Not a threat," Shane repeats, scoffing. "How many of them were there? You killed four of their men, you took one of them hostage, but they just ain't gonna come looking?" He rhetorically questions, rolling his eyes.
"They left him for dead. No one is looking," Rick states firmly, making Nadia sigh as she leans further into the wall, shoulder brushing against Glenn.
Since the bar, and Tony's creepy comments towards her, it seems like Glenn doesn't want her out of his sight.
"We should still post a guard," T-Dog suggests, crossing his arms.
"He's out cold right now, will be for hours," Hershel informs everyone.
"You know what?" Shane starts angrily. "I'm gonna go get him some flowers and candy." He starts to walk away, scoffing. "Look at this, folks... we back in fantasy land!"
"You know, we haven't even dealt with what you did at my barn yet," Hershel says as he moves towards Shane. "Let me make this perfectly clear, once and for all... This is my farm," Hershel states firmly, pointing to the floor. "Now I wanted you gone. Rick talked me out of it, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. So do us both a favour... keep your mouth shut."
Nadia smirks, watching as Shane's face contorts with different emotions before he angrily storms out of the house.
"We're not gonna do anything about it today. Let's just cool off," Rick informs, leaning up against a table.
Nadia stands there for a moment, taking one last look around the room before walking away.
THE NEXT DAY Rick has a plan to take Randall out eighteen miles and drop him there. Nadia is currently staring at him, dumbfounded, as he says Shane is going with him and that he wants her to stay behind to protect the group.
Nadia guffaws. "You... want to go out on your own with some kid that we don't know and with Shane of all people? Rick, he's unstable. We all saw that. What he did with the barn..." She shakes her head and scoffs, crossing her arms.
Rick sighs and places a comforting hand on her shoulder. "I'll be fine. I can handle Shane, I've done it for many years." He gives her a small smile, but it doesn't quite reach his eyes. "I want you to stay behind because I know that you will protect this group if, somehow, Randall's group finds this place. I don't believe that'll happen, but I want you to keep an eye on things while I'm gone. Okay?"
He doesn't want to say that it's also his way of protecting her; he doesn't want her to be in harm's way like last night.
Nadia sighs and rolls her eyes. "Fine. Whatever, QuickDraw Rick."
He can't help but chuckle at her new nickname. "You and these nicknames," he says fondly, shaking his head.
Nadia shrugs. She isn't about to say it's a form of endearment. "Kick his ass if he starts shit, alright?" She gives him a look and turns on her heels swiftly, walking away.
NADIA FINDS HERSELF by the RV on the wooden swing that is hanging from the tree. She just sits there, lightly swaying from front to back, hands wrapped loosely around the rope. She had just spent a little time with Carl, keeping him occupied while Lori was inside making Beth lunch.
Thinking about Carl, she can't help but worry about Rick. They've been gone for an hour already and she doesn't trust Shane. She could use the expression 'I don't trust him as far as I can throw him' but... she could throw him pretty far, so it's not quite accurate.
Sighing, Nadia tilts her head slightly just to rest it on the rope by her hand, closing her eyes as she breathes in the fresh air, the wind lightly blowing against her face.
In just a few short months, it'll be snowing and freezing. She's never liked the cold, albeit it doesn't bother her too much because she always runs hot, but she's only had bad memories when it comes to winter.
Once, she was locked in a shed for three days while it snowed heavily all because she had accidentally broken a special dish her foster family had. Apparently, it was made by their child who had passed years prior.
Things with the Whitling family were very nice up until that point and the father snapped. One of the neighbours called the cops upon hearing crying inside the shed, the couple was arrested for child abuse, and then Nadia went back into the foster system.
Nadia's pulled out of her memory by Lori shouting for Maggie while running from the house. "Maggie!" Her face is showing nothing but fright and worry.
Maggie appears from around the tree, eyes wide. She had wanted company so she stayed near Nadia even though she knew the other girl needed space. "What? What happened?!"
"It's—it's Beth," Lori answers, panting as she comes to a stop. "She didn't eat anything but swiped the knife from the plate. I managed to get it off her but I—I think she was gonna use it."
Maggie looks horrified as she instantly sprints toward the house, Lori following.
Nadia is frozen on the swing, boots placed on the ground to stop her swinging, eyes wide as she turns to stare at the house.
As the figures of Lori and Maggie disappear into the house, Andrea drops down from the RV. "What did she just say?" Her mouth is agape and her eyes narrowed as she stares at Nadia.
"Beth, she..." Nadia doesn't want to speak the words into existence. She shakes her head and moves into a jog towards the house, her heart pumping loudly in her ears.
"Shit," Andrea curses and races after the girl.
By the time they get inside, Lori is standing in the kitchen while Maggie and Beth yell at each other upstairs.
Nadia exhales and leans against the counter, running a hand down her face. Once upon a time—actually a lot of times—she had thought about ending it all. But something always held her back. It's different for Beth though—she has people who love her.
"Where's Hershel?" Andrea questions, looking over at Lori who hops up onto the counter.
"He doesn't want to find out yet," the Grimes woman answers, throwing a piece of cucumber into her mouth. "It's a family affair. We'll let them work it out."
The yelling gets louder upstairs and Andrea raises her brows. "That's working it out?"
"When Beth stops fighting, that's when it's time to worry." Lori hops off the counter, brushing her hands against her thighs as she steps over to the kitchen island.
Nadia furrows her brows and guffaws. "Yelling about it isn't going to help."
She can hear the yelling with her enhanced hearing, hearing the word 'selfish' being thrown out towards Beth. She cringes, remembering all the times she was called that specific word.
"This could've been handled better," Andrea comments, shrugging.
"How so?" Lori sighs, eyeing the woman with curiosity as she places some dirty dishes in the sink.
The blonde woman exhales. "You shouldn't have taken the knife away."
Nadia's eye twitches as she slowly turns to stare full-on at Andrea.
"Excuse me?" Lori can't believe her ears, staring at Andrea over her shoulder as she pauses her cleaning.
"You were wrong," Andrea states. "Like Dale taking away my gun. That wasn't your decision."
Lori looks away from the blonde woman, her jaw slightly open with shock as she's left speechless.
Nadia inhales deeply and shakes her head. "She's just a child. She... she doesn't..." She lets out a bitter sound. "She's just in shock. Just because it's tough for her right now, doesn't mean th—that she should—"
"She has to choose to live on her own," Andrea snaps. "She has to find her own reasons."
Nadia clicks her tongue. She won't admit it out loud, but Andrea does have an inkling of a good point. But letting Beth kill herself isn't an option.
"Want me to tie a noose for her?" Lori asks sarcastically, placing the tray of leftover food in the fridge.
"If she's serious, she'll figure out a way."
"Doesn't mean I can't stop her." Lori steps back over to the counter, packing up all the knives and forks and putting them back in the drawers. "Or let her know that I care."
"That has nothing to do with it, Lori." Andrea furrows her eyebrows. "She only has so many choices in front of her and she believes the best one is suicide."
Lori shakes her head. "That's not an option."
"Of course it is."
"Of course it's not," Nadia snaps. "What if it was your sister and she wanted to kill herself? Would you hand her the knife yourself as well?!"
Andrea glares at the nineteen-year-old. "Don't bring Amy into this! Beth just doesn't need to be yelled at or treated like a child!"
"She needs a loaded gun, right?" Lori scoffs, sighing heavily. "You'll understand if I don't send you in there."
Andrea scoffs. "I came through it."
"And became such a productive member of the group," Lori says, crossing her arms. "Let Maggie handle this her way."
Andrea makes a sound in the back of her throat. "I contribute. I help keep this place safe."
Nadia crosses her arms as she stares between them, feeling like they're getting off track and it's now some unresolved problem between the two of them.
She sighs heavily as she pushes herself off of the counter with her hip and walks out of the room, rolling her eyes as she hears Lori retort, "The men can handle this on their own. They don't need your help."
"What a load of bullshit," Nadia grumbles as she steps out the front doors of the house, right into Glenn.
Glenn backs up, eyes widening because now with the door wide open, he can hear the Greene sisters yelling. "Wow, sounds... fun in there."
Nadia pats Glenn's chest and keeps it there to stop him from moving backwards so that the door closes behind her.
The door slams shut and she sighs quietly because the screaming quietens. "You say that, but Lori and Andrea are about to go at it like two stray cats in an alley. It's like a dick-measuring contest but with boobs instead."
Glenn chokes on a chuckle and shakes his head, cheeks tinting pink. "Oh?" He squeaks out and Nadia can't help but snort at him.
"Come on, pizza boy." She holds up her right hand and hooks two of her fingers in a 'come hither' movement as she makes her way down the stairs and away from the big white house.
Glenn raises a brow but doesn't say a single word as he instantly follows behind the brunette.
"So, I've been thinking..." Nadia trails off as she stops by the windmill, staring up at it. "What if we turned that into some sort of lookout post? And maybe build another one," she says, turning and pointing in the opposite direction, "over there somewhere. That way we can keep an eye out on all sides of the farmhouse."
Glenn watches her, his lips quirking upwards. "That's a smart idea, Nadia."
She gives him a small smile and nods. "I have also been thinking... since winter is just a few short months away, we could maybe start gathering logs and build some log houses near the house or well... wherever Hershel might let us. With all our manpower, we could..." She trails off, furrowing her brows when she notices that Glenn is just staring at her with a smile on his face. She frowns, feeling self-conscious all of a sudden. "What?"
He just shrugs, that stupid smile still on his face. "It's good to see you coming up with ideas. I see why Rick looks to you more than the rest of us."
Nadia crosses her arms and scoffs. "It's just because we met first. There's no real meaning behind it."
Glenn shrugs once more. "I doubt that." He grins when he sees her open her mouth to retort something. "So tell me more about these ideas of yours..."
She narrows her eyes at him but nods and continues throwing ideas at him, bouncing some back and forth until they come up with better solutions.
While they are going over a particular idea, shouting comes from the house as they near it. There's frantic yelling of Beth's name, and if Nadia listens just a little more closely, she can hear said blonde girl sobbing.
Without even a blink, Nadia takes off into the house, up the stairs, and into Beth's bedroom.
"Beth, come on! Open the door!" Maggie yells frantically, pounding on the bathroom door alongside Lori who is still twisting the locked knob. "Beth!"
Lori spots Nadia in the doorway. "Beth. Glass. Won't open," she says in one quick breath, moving away from the door to try and find something to jerry-rig the door or pry it open.
"Don't do this, Beth. Don't do this," Maggie pleads, her voice growing shaky as Nadia marches over to the door, ready to kick it in. "God, I left her with Andrea," she cries, running a shaky hand through her hair as she steps back from the door.
Nadia inhales, exhales, lifts her foot high and slams it down onto the knob, breaking it successfully. She shoves into the door with her shoulder and it flows open to the surprise of the two women in the room with her.
There stands Beth, holding a hand over her bleeding wrist, crying. Behind her is a mirror that is now broken and left with only a few shards.
Beth turns her eyes from Nadia to her sister, crying even louder now. "I'm sorry," she says shakily.
Maggie lets out a cry before stepping closer to her, quickly placing her hand over her sister's sliced wrist, and kissing the side of her head. "Okay. It's okay," she murmurs, tears filling her own eyes as she rushes her sister to their father.
Once the Greene sisters leave the room, Nadia slowly turns to Lori with narrowed eyes. "Andrea left her to do this?"
Lori sighs a shaky breath and shrugs, running her hands through her brown hair. "That's what Maggie said."
Nadia's lips turn into a snarl and she storms out of the bedroom, ignoring Lori shouting her name.
She goes past Glenn who tries to grab her arm, but she bulldozes on by, past the front door, down the porch steps, and over to the RV. She climbs up the ladder angrily, and when she reaches the top, Andrea is staring at her with confusion.
"You stupid bitch," Nadia spits and shoves the bitch off of the RV, the blonde landing with a thud and a loud groan.
The Slayer jumps down effortlessly, grabbing her by her shirt and lifting her before turning around to slam her against the RV. "What the hell were you thinking?! Beth is a sixteen-year-old girl! You shouldn't have left her alone!"
"Woah! Nadia!"
"Guys!"
"What's going on?!"
There's a lot of shouting around her, but Nadia doesn't care. She slams Andrea once more against the RV before dropping her to the ground and storming away towards her tent.
"What the hell was that?!" Glenn is following quickly behind her. "The way you flung her off of the RV without hesitation?!"
Nadia glares as she whirls around to stare at him. "She was just going to let Beth die! With no remorse! What is wrong with her?!"
"You could've seriously hurt her," another voice says from behind her, and Nadia turns around to face Dale.
She rolls her eyes. "And Beth could be dead because of her."
Dale opens his mouth, about to continue the argument, but the sound of a car approaching stops him. He, along with the group, turns to stare at the green car that approaches, knowing that Rick and Shane are finally back.
When they step out, Nadia's nostrils flare in rage at the blood, bruises and cuts all over Rick. Her eyes narrow in on Shane who steps out of the passenger seat, finding herself stalking over to him.
"Whoa, Na—" Glenn reaches out quickly and grabs her wrist, briefly stopping her. He knows her strength is twice as much as his, but he doesn't want her to get involved with Shane. "St—stop."
Nadia stares at Shane, inhaling and exhaling loudly before slowly turning to Glenn. "You need to stop holding me back," she says slowly and firmly, yanking her wrist out of his grip and turning to watch in confusion as both men move towards the trunk of the car.
The two men pull someone out of the car—it's Randall. He's blindfolded with tape wrapped around his mouth, hands, and feet.
"Why the hell is he back?" Daryl asks gruffly, coming in the direction of where his tent is set up.
They watch as Rick drags the boy across the yard. The man pauses, gripping Randall harshly. "We are going to keep him locked up in the shed for now," he informs everyone. He makes eye contact with Nadia, jaw clenching as he glances in Shane's direction.
Glenn crosses his arms, moving to stand to the side but in front of Nadia. "Wasn't the whole plan to drop him off and leave him the fend for himself?"
"He knows about the farm," Rick states, grunting slightly as he starts moving again, but in the direction of the shed this time.
Nadia's brows quiver. "How did he—"
"He said he knew Maggie," Rick practically spits out, glancing at the girl in question.
Maggie's eyes widen and she shrugs. "I don't remember him. I—I don't know how he even knows me."
"He said you didn't know him, he said he saw you in school," Rick adds, making Maggie form an 'o' shape with her lips.
"Rick," Shane calls, tossing a padlock to his friend, who catches it easily with one hand. "He's gonna stay put in there for now." He rushes over and pulls the wooden door of the shed open.
Rick nods his head, stepping inside and shoving Randall onto the floor. The young man lets out a little yelp as he hits the ground, hissing from the pain in his leg.
"Cuff him to the pipe," Rick orders, Shane and Daryl reacting and rushing over to the younger man, pushing him against the wall roughly as Shane clicks on the cuffs easily.
Rick nods his head towards the door and everyone piles back outside while Rick locks the padlock on the door. He turns around to address everyone, placing his hands on his hips as he lets out a loud sigh. "We will figure out what to do with him tomorrow. No one has to worry. We'll figure it out."
Nadia crosses her arms and gestures to Rick's face with her eyes. "What happened out there?"
Shane and Rick glance at one another before the former clears his throat and the latter clenches his jaw.
"Got in a bit of a tussle and surrounded by walkers, but we're fine." Rick nods, reaching over to clap a hand down on Shane's shoulder. "Right, Shane?"
Shane purses his lips but nods. "Right as rain, Rick...."
Nadia scoffs, rolls her eyes, and walks away.
LATER, NADIA IS approached by Rick, who has both a stern but amused expression on his face. She sighs, raising one brow in question. "What now, Ranger Rick?"
"I heard that you threw Andrea off of the RV without a second thought," he says instead of a greeting, his brows raising on his forehead in question.
"So?" Nadia shrugs. There's no point in denying it—everyone pretty much saw her do it.
"Well." Rick licks his lips and shifts his legs as he places his hands on his hips. "From what I hear, she's the reason Beth almost killed herself. Is that true?"
Nadia nods, pursing her lips. "Yes. The bitch deserved more than just a push off of the RV."
Rick lowers his head and shakes it, but she sees the corners of his mouth twitch up into some sort of smile. "How I see it..." He begins, looking back up at her. "She deserved that push. But," he adds quickly when he sees her begin to smirk. "Let's not go about shoving people off high places. You could've killed her."
Nadia stares at him, clenching her jaw and rolling her eyes. "Okay." She steps closer to him, reaching out to poke him in the face where a bruise sits. He winces and slaps her hand away from his face which earns a chuckle from her. "A tussle, eh?" She scoffs. "If he tries to lay one more hand on you, I—"
Rick puts a hand on her cheek, giving her a small smile. "I won't let him get away easy next time. Okay?" He makes direct eye contact, and they hold it for what feels like hours before Nadia blows out a breath and nods. "Glenn said you had some idea to make this place more secure. Wanna tell me?"
With that, he rests a hand on her shoulder as they venture off towards the farmhouse.
