Chapter 5 - Klance
Wednesday, 23rd of January
~ Pidge ~
I walked into the classroom, minding my own business when a bunch of girls leapt out at me.
I jumped in shock. Could they not have just asked me if they could talk instead of jumping out of the shadows and grabbing me? Still, I was curious about what they wanted. I didn't really mix with the girls in my class that much. I didn't understand them. They were always so busy worrying about clothes and make up and whatever teenage girls worry about when you could be doing so much more productive stuff with your time.
I guess I've always just been more interested in technology than actual people. I used to have really long hair but I'd cut it one day because it made me look all prissy so no one took me seriously. I was already small and everyone thought I was stupid just because I was a little younger. My mom had been kind of annoyed when I'd chopped it all off but I didn't really care. Maybe I'd used to worry about not being a nerd and fitting in but I didn't anymore. My big brother told me to do whatever I want and to be whoever I want and that way I'd find my real friends. And I guess, I had. He accepted me and the others accepted and that was all I needed.
"Hi, Pidge!" One girl said, her eyes shining. "We just have a real quick question for you, do you have a sec?"
"Um, sure, what is it?"
The girls all exchanged looks, grinning mischievously. "What's the deal with Lance and Keith?"
I blinked. "Huh?"
"Is there something going on between them?"
"I know it might sound a bit weird but it makes sense!" Another chimed in. "I mean, Keith's been here for two weeks and he only talks to Lance. Don't you think that's a bit suspicious? And also adorable? Does Lance ever talk about him when you're around?"
Oh, if only they knew. "Yeah, he's kind of obsessed."
They all began squealing and grabbing each other while a few looked annoyed. "Oh my god, so cute!"
"I ship it!"
"They're perfect for each other!"
"Why are all the hot guys either taken or gay?!"
"Who cares, they're adorable together! He's the one person who can make him happy, it's like destiny!"
I grinned. "If they find out about this, they'll kill us."
They grinned back. "A evil duo, just like Isaac and Miria."
"Will I just straight out ask him if there's something going on?"
"I think you mean gay out ask him," someone corrected me.
They all giggled and squealed again. I smiled. "Well, they have been spending a lot of time together since that whole hockey thing, so I'd say it could be. Oh, we need a ship name. Hmm...Klance or Laith?"
"Klance!"
"We can't just decide on that, who's the dominant one in the relationship?!"
"It could just be a flip fu-"
"Does dominance really matter, Klance just sounds better!"
"But Klance is just Lance's name with a k in front."
As they all argued over a ship name, I couldn't help but grin. This could be very interesting.
~ Keith ~
"Is a hot dog a sandwich or not?"
"How should I know?" I grumbled.
Lance ignored me. "I can't decide on what I think because a roll is technically a sandwich, at least I think it is, and hot dogs go in rolls but are rolls actually sandwiches and if they are do hot dogs count as sandwiches?"
"Lance, I really don't care. It's too early in the morning for me to deal with you and your idiocy."
"Well, it's too early in the morning for me to deal with your...um..."
"My what?"
"Your...not morning-ness!"
"That makes literally no sense."
"Does too!" He protested as I pushed the classroom door open.
"Does not."
"Does too!"
"Explain it then..." my voice trailed off.
The whole class was sitting down and staring at us.
That was weird. The teacher wasn't here yet. Usually everyone would be talking. But most of them were just sitting there in complete silence, staring at us with huge eyes.
"Uh, hey?" Lance said.
Someone began blushing and squealing, setting half of the class off. "So cute!"
I narrowed my eyes in suspicion. "Did we miss something?"
More people just began squealing and hugging and jumping. "He said 'we'!"
I didn't like this. I was starting to loose it.
"Okay, that's it, what the hell is up with everyone?!" I snapped.
Lance spoke in an even tone. "Okay, relax, Keith, just calm down-"
All the girls screamed and took out their phones. "Klance, Klance, Klance!"
I let that settle in my brain.
Klance...
K...
Lance...
It all clicked.
Klance.
Oh my god.
No, no, no, no, no, no...
Lance cocked his head to the side. "Klance? What the heck is that?"
Was he serious right now?! Must I do everything myself?
I clenched my fists. "I swear to god, if all of you don't shut up and stop your weird fantasies right now, I'll kill you!"
Lance ogled at me. "W-Woah, Keith! Isn't that a bit much?!"
"How the hell do you not see what's going on right now?!"
"He can't because he's blinded by affection for you," some little idiot chimed in.
"That's it, you're all dead!"
"Keith, no!"
"Let go of me, Lance!" I yelled, struggling to fight off his grip.
He didn't let go. "You can't just run around beating up our classmates! Violence is never the answer!"
"Violence is always the answer!"
"No, it's not!"
"Name five people who won wars by hugging each other and being nice!"
"That's not the point!"
"You tell your boyfriend!" Another idiot giggled.
"Huh? Boy...friend?"
And it was only then that Lance realised why everyone was acting weird and why they were all fangirling.
His face slowly went bright red as he put all the pieces together and his legs began to wobble. "Oh, crap..." I heard him breathe as he fell back as if he was going to faint. I managed to catch him just in time, like some sort of trust fall. He lay limp in my arms, looking dazed.
"Lance!" I snapped, shaking him madly. "Get a grip! Snap out of it!"
"Th-they think...you...me...a-are...going...you...me..."
"ADORABLE!"
"I'M CRYING, MY HEART IS ABOUT TO BURST!"
"I am going to murder every last one of you!"
Pidge grinned slyly. "But then you'd have to drop him and you wouldn't want that, now would you?"
I growled at her and then the door burst open and Mr. Coran skipped in, waving a bunch of maths sheets around. I'd never been so happy to see that strange man in my life.

We sat in the empty classroom at lunch, a depressed and gloomy aura hanging around us. I lay across my desk, feeling depressed as Lance stayed in his seat, still completely frozen and in a daze. He'd been like that since this morning. I hated everyone. I hated all those stupid, stupid idiots in school.
I bashed my forehead against desk. "Why..."
"I'm sorry."
"Huh?" I looked to the side. Lance was thawing out. He actually looked really bothered by this whole thing. His cheeks were all red and he looked really...not Lance like. His fists were clenched on my lap and he was staring down at them with sad and tired eyes.
"It's all my fault. They got the wrong idea because I kept following you around and annoying you. And this morning when I worked out what was going on, I was blushing like crazy and got all dazed out and shocked. I couldn't even say anything, I couldn't even deny it. I'm so useless."
"No, that's not-"
"I like being your rival."
I stopped and looked at him.
"It's kinda fun." He suddenly grinned at me. "Anyone ever told you that you give really good reactions when you're annoyed? But...school is definitely a lot more interesting whenever we're competing."
"You mean, when you're competing?"
He ignored me and rested his head on his arms, still looking at me with a smile. "And I can't wait for the day I score a critical hit." He then sighed and faced forwards. "So, how do you think we should sort everyone out? And convince them that we're not...you know..."
"We beat the crap out of them."
"That's a terrible idea! You'll get expelled!"
"How do you suggest we convince them we're not a couple?"
"Hmm, how about...you come in, all intimidating and if they still laugh, punch the whiteboard or something so that it cracks and they all get freaked out, I dunno."
"That's not gonna drive the point in as well."
"You got any better ideas that won't land either of us back in the principal's office?! You do realise that if you go down, I'll probably end up going down with you!"
"Fine. I guess we'll do your idea then."
He sighed. "I would do it with you but no one takes me seriously around here."
I'd never seen Lance like this. So...quiet and unconfident.
"I wonder why."
"Hey!"
I smiled. "You're a walking meme, you know that?"
His eyes suddenly widened and he shoved his surprised face up close to mine. "Woah!"
"Wh-What are you doing?"
He beamed, eyes shining. "You smiled!"
"Huh?"
Shoot.
He was right. I hadn't even noticed what I was doing.
"I don't think I've ever seen you smile before."
I looked away. "Y-Yeah, s-so?"
"Nothing, it's just..." he then smiled himself. "Never mind." He stood up from his desk and headed towards the door. "I better go. Pidge and Hunk will be wondering where I am." He opened the door. "See ya."
"Yeah, later."
"And by the way, Keith?"
"Hmm?" I blinked and looked over at him.
"You should smile more often. You look better that way. You're actually pretty cute."
And with that, he left.
"You're actually pretty cute."
Me? Cute?
"You should smile more often. You look better that way."
Well...maybe...if Lance thought so...
Maybe I'd smile more. I mean, it'd surely piss him off if I constantly looked better than him.
Yeah. To piss him off. Not for any other reasons or anything.
