Susie shook me awake. She had a mischievous glint in her eyes. I looked at the clock and saw it said 5 :30 am.

"Ugggh, what do you want?" I wasn't a morning person.

"It has come to my attention that I still haven't shown you that place I was talking about that night," she said. I was confused for a second before remembering our text conversation.

"Oh, that? Ok, just give me... 4 and a half hours more." Susie rolled her eyes. She ripped my sheets off, and I squealed at the cold air. "Hey!"

"Well? Get up, get dressed! We have to get there by 6!" she exclaimed.

"Uggghhhhhh fine. Lemme get dressed." I pushed her out of my room and threw on one of my many striped turtleneck sweaters. I put on a pair of brown pants and left the room. I walked down the stairs to see Susie pacing back and forth, looking at the clock. When she noticed me, she jumped up. A huge smile was on her face. She was very excited about it.

"Come on!" She grabbed my wrist and ran out of the house.

"Woah- where are we even going!?" Susie laughed.

"You'll just have to wait and see!"

We ran down the empty streets, turning every now and then. She pulled me down the road her old house was on and into the nearby woods. She slowed down now, taking hold of my hand rather than my wrist. She lead me through the forest slowly until we reached a clearing. It seemed as though the sky was being reflected off of the ground. Susie kicked a pebble at it and I realized that it was a small lake.

"Woah- this is beautiful, Susie!" She smiled at me.

"You haven't seen anything yet." She pulled a bag that I hadn't even noticed before now off her shoulder and passed me a container of ice cream and a few Oreo cookies. She pulled an inflatable raft and a pump out of the bag as well.

"How long have you been planning this?" I asked her.

"I've been coming here for ages, and I always wanted to share it with someone. I just never knew who." She began to pump up the raft.

"Do you want some help?"

"Nah, just look at the sky. We got here a lot later than I usually do, and it could happen at any moment."

"What's 'it'?"

"You'll see."

"If you don't tell me what it is, how am I supposed to-"

"Done!" Susie interrupted. She threw the raft onto the lake, grabbed my hand and helped me into the raft. She followed after me, kicking off of the ground and letting us drift into the middle of the lake.

We both leaned back and looked at the sky. The stars were still barely visible, but were becoming harder to see with every second. Susie cracked open the ice cream and handed me a spoon. She proceeded to take half of the carton out in one spoonful and shove it in her mouth. I giggled at her. Just then, the sky lit up purple.

It had begun.

The sun began to rise over the horizon. The sunlight hit the water, and it seemed to glow around us. It was gorgeous. Despite the freezing mid-winter 6 am cold, I felt warm. I then realized that it was because Susie was hugging me. I looked up at her eyes and smiled at her. The light reflected off of her eyes as the sky turned pink. As the first bits of red shine through, the water started to clear. Soon enough, it was orange. The light refracted off of the water, sending tiny rainbows across the clearing. I stared in awe at the beautiful phenomena. Susie chuckled at my reaction.

"It's beautiful, isn't it? It's even better when you're sharing it with someone you love." She grabbed my hand and kissed the top of my head.

"Thank you, Susie. It's amazing."
