~Chapter 2~
"Wanna watch a movie tonight?" Sans asked Sora, a somewhat vacant expression on his face.
"Sure!" Sora squeaked, jumping up from her spot on the floor and plopping down on the couch next to the skeleton.
Papyrus was still in his room. He'd seemed a bit upset about his argument with Sans earlier. He might still be mad about that. Or he was asleep or something. It was around 10:00 at night. It wouldn't be too big of a stretch.
Still, Sans felt guilty for what he'd said. He'd really pissed his brother off. Sure, Papyrus could keep his cool with those things, but he knew that it got to him deep-down. He just didn't show it.
That was the problem with having a brother like Papyrus. You never knew how much you'd hurt him until he snapped. It was next to impossible to tell when friendly teasing became actual insults.
Oh well. It was done now. He couldn't go back and fix it, just like with any other mistake he made.
Sans sighed as Sora picked out a movie, which ended up being 'Rampage', a movie about three normal animals who got turned into giant mutants, and then they trashed a city.
Sora probably just picked it because it seemed science-related, and she knew that Sans loved science stuff. But in all honesty, he wasn't even focused on the movie for most of the time.
His mind was in a completely different place. He wasn't thinking about the gorilla, the wolf, and the alligator in the film. He was thinking about the beasts that lurked just beyond his very own door.
That thought alone kept him on-edge. Even though exhaustion was undoubtably creeping through his system, he couldn't force himself to go to sleep, no matter how hard he tried. He had a lingering fear that as soon as he let his guard down, the beasts would attack, and they'd all be goners.
Well, they'd probably be screwed anyway, but it was much better to be able to prepare than to have it sneak up on you. Then you'd at least know what was coming. But if you weren't ready for it...
That just made everything even more complicated.
"-Did Sans like movie?"
The skeleton snapped out of his thoughts, his attention focusing on Sora. "Huh? Uh, yeah. It was cool."
Sora narrowed her eyes, a disbelieving look on her face. "Sans not sound very enthusiastic."
"Sorry Sora... 'M not too focused right now... That movie was the last thing on my mind," Sans responded, his voice slightly hoarse.
Sora raised an eyebrow at him. "Sans could have told Sora not to put on movie."
"No no, I didn't mean it like that." He broke off with a yawn. "It was good ambience for me."
"That not the point of movies! Movies for entertainment! Not background noise!" Sora squeaked.
"Hey, 's not too far of a stretch, 'kay? A lotta people play movies jus' for sound. 'S not jus' me," Sans grumbled, his words becoming more and more slurred the more he spoke.
Sora crossed her arms and started tapping her foot on the ground. "Sans need to go to bed. Need get sleep."
"I dun' need shizz from you!" Sans insisted, a dreary look on his face.
"Sora not asking. Go to bed. Now."
"Okay, okay. But can I sleep out here, at least?" Sans finally gave in, knowing it was no use fighting with the dragon.
Her gaze softened. "If that what Sans want."
"M'kay then. You can take my room, if ya want," Sans offered as he grabbed the folded blanket off the back of the couch and covered himself with it.
Sora shook her head. "Sora want to stay with Sans."
The skeleton looked surprised, but didn't argue. He scooted over on the couch, making room for his girlfriend to sit next to him.
Without saying anything else, the two monsters cuddled up next to one another. It wasn't long before Sora was asleep.
Sans, however, didn't have it as easy as Sora did. He sat there, lying awake and thinking about everything that was going on.
It was moments like this that made it seem like everything was normal. Like everything was going to turn out okay, if you just gave it some time to clear up.
Moments like these were so painstakingly deceiving.
