Mmmmnnnhhhhhhhhhh-
Earth to (y/n)...
Hhhhhhhnggghhh why is someone touching y-
"(Y/N)!"
"FOR FUCK'S SAKE, WHAT?!" you screeched, standing up suddenly and death-glaring Max, who was standing in front of you at the other side of the table.
"You're falling asleep again!" He yelled. You groaned and sat back down, letting your head fall into your arms. "S' not my fault."
Max rolled his eyes. "Whatever loser, but you need to wake the fuck up and get your shit together! You can't fall asleep when we try to bust out of this hell-hole tonight!"
You only groaned and let your head fall back into your arms on the table. You hadn't gotten any sleep last night, only managing to doze when the sky lightened and you weren't as scared for your fucking life. And of course David had decided to wake everyone up extra early to go on a special morning nature hike. So, needless to say, you were exhausted and in a terrible mood.
You felt a nudge on your arm and glanced at the source of the touch, meeting Tattletail's round blue eyes.
"Whaaaatt?" You growled, too tired and anxious to be really angry.
"Give me a treat." He said simply, for once not screaming it over and over. Guess he could tell you weren't in the mood to be yelled at after your restless night.
You sighed and used a spoon to feed Tattletail some of the mystery-shit the camp feeds you everyday.
Sadly the mess hall got cleaned up and pantry restocked since last night, so it was back to gross food. The large cabin-like building did still have some blackened areas and smelled faintly of smoke and ash but for the most part it was back to normal.
You yawned for the billionth time that morning and fought the urge to close your eyes. You knew that the second you did you would drift off.
You heard Max going off about his plans, Nikki and Neil sonetimes adding their own input. You tried to listen so you knew what to do later, but the words were fuzzy and meaningless and you barely registered your surrounding.
And you abruptly faceplanted on the table.
You were practically dead. If you had been concious enough to register your sense of hearing you would have noticed the gang stopping their planning to look at you and heard the short mechanical whir of Tattletail's eye movement to look at you too.
Finally Max sighed in annoyance and suggested, "Someone get Sleeping Not-Beauty back to their tent. We can explain to them later."
"I'm on it!"
You groaned as you felt someone's arms wrap under your armpits and around your torso and drag you off the table, then across the mess hall floor and eventually outside in the dirt. Somehow they got into your tent and dumped you onto your bed. You barely stirred, unconciously rolling into a more comfortable sleeping position.
Fast paced running footsteps left your tent and disapeared from your range of hearing, only to reappear a few moments later, and Tattletail was placed into your arms.
You cuddled up with the purple toy and you heard Nikki's say from somewhere in your tent, "Night, (y/n)!" Then you heard your tent being zipped up and muffled footsteps leaving back to the mess hall.
You didn't fight the sleep. You were too tired to even be paranoid. You werent sure exactly when you drifted off, but it couldn't have been long after Nikki left you to your quiet solitude.
"Oh (y/n)! We're doing a camp activity!" You stirred awake to David's voice outside your tent.
It was impossible to tell exactly what time it was but it was definitely warmer and the faint glow of the sun through your tent was in a different place now. You had most likely been out for a few well needed hours.
Neil's voice outside the tent replied to David's call, "I'm not so sure it's the best idea to wake them up. They were super tired this morning, I'm not even sure if they got any sleep last night."
You sat up into a sitting position on your bed and yawned, stretching a few moment after. You definitely felt more refreshed. Still tired, but at least you were somewhat awake now. David started going off about the importance of a full 8 hours of rest outside your tent.
You called towards where your friend and counsler's voices were coming from, "It's cool, guys. I'm up now. Just give me a couple minutes."
You stood up, already clothed from earlier that morning. You stretched again and drank some water from a water bottle, then took care of Tattletail, who had thankfully been silent while you were asleep. You picked the purple toy up and left your tent, spotting Neil and the rest of the gang a ways away near a gathering of other campers, probably to do the camp activity David had mentioned.
You showed up just in time for David to start enthusiastically explaining the activity. Basically it was just the kind of busy work you did at school when you had a subsitute.
Max teased you about that morning as you all started working. More like Max doing nothing, Neil working a little bit, Nikki scribbling all over the papers, and you doodling on the back of your worksheet.
Once David and Gwen left Max suddenly jumped up and started to explain the plan they had come up with earlier that morning. Basically you were all gonna sneak out once everyone was asleep and walk out to the road and try to get picked up by people driving past. Probably not safe, but let's face it, this camp sucks.
So night fell, and everyone gathered to wait in Max and Neil's tent. When David made his rounds telling the campers that it was lights out, you explained that you and Nikki were going to spend the night with Max and Neil.
David accepted this answer and left you all to your evil plotting. To pass time for everyone in the camp to really be asleep your gang munched on some cookies, pudding cups, and juice boxes that Max and Nikki had stolen from the pantry earlier.
Max went out to really be sure they were safe and then popped back into the tent and quietly exclaimed, "Everyone is asleep, let's haul ass!"
So you all left, stealthing your way out of camp and into the woods, you holding Tattletail and his supply bag and your flashlight. You and the chaos trio wasted no time getting into the forest and out of sight of anyone who may have been awake at camp. It was pitch black besides shreds of silver moonlight filtering through the trees, and almost dead silent, only interrupted by the crunching of you and your friends' footsteps.
The darkness didn't bother you, but the silence did. It was almost too quiet, and any noises that did split the night were deafening in contrast. No one was talking either, surprisingly even Nikki was silent, perhaps even the quietest out of all of you. Even your infamously irritating Tattletail was quiet, with the only sounds being soft mechanical whirs of his ears or eyes moving.
The only other time you had come out here was when tattletail went missing after you were talking with max on the dock, and the surroundings were unfamiliar to you. It only heightened your unease. At least twice now you and Neil had almost tripped over rocks, roots, and fallen tree branches but managed to stay mostly silent despite it all.
After some minutes of creeping through the woods the 4 of you (5 if you count purple-mcfurby-face) spotted empty space through the woods instead of just more trees. That was the road, and you only got more excited as you saw quickly passing lights from a car's headlights.
That means there were people driving up here! This was looking better than any of you could have expected. Everyone started walking just a bit faster, beginning to get excited by the idea of success.
You could see the road now clearly through the trees. Max looked over his shoulder and motioned at you and the rest of the gang to hurry up. You were so close... but something was off. It couldn't be this easy, right?
Against your better judgement and the attention of your gang, you slowed to a halt and looked around. It was still deafeningly silent and you could hear your friends' footsteps fading away as they continued without you.
If there was one thing you had learned from Mama, it was that dead silence was never a good thing.
After a good few seconds standing still and holding your breath, you turned back to the direction of the road.
Your blood ran cold. You had taken a single step and another louder crunching sound resounded from somewhere close behind you in the darkness, far louder than a footstep that could have been cause by you or one of your friends.
You slowly turned your head to look over your shoulder, and was faced with nothing but darkness and shadows...
You exhaled and looked ahead to keep going, only to be greeted with two blinding points of red inches away from your face and a loud blaring sound filling your senses. You screamed abruptly and fell backwards, but when you hit the ground those demon eyes had disappeared without a trace.
If it was a hallucination then Tattletail had seen it too, as he began crying out in panic. Your heart was racing and you frantically rushed to silence the toy.
"No no no no no, be quiet please!" You begged in a hushed whisper, but the mechanical toy took no notice of your pleas and continued crying. The chaos trio came running from the road to investigate the panic.
"(y/n), what's going on?!" Neil asked, beginning to panic himself.
"Shut that thing up!" Max ordered.
You continued to attempt to calm Tattletail and shakily replied, "I-I can't-"
Not even a moment later a blinding light fell over the lot of you and a familar certain councelor's voice rang through the darkness, "What on earth are you four doing out here?!"
David escorted the four of you back to camp. Tattletail had finally stopped crying but both you and him were incredibly uneasy. And you were guilty as all hell. You ruined the escape.
None of your friends would look at you, especially not Max. He was especially pissed at you after what had just happened. Part of you wanted to pit the blame against someone else like David or Tattletail, but the most reasonable explanation you could come up with was completely unreasonable by anyone else's standards. A demon in a furby's body was trying to kill you. Again. And who in their right mind was going to believe that?!
David left you all off with the promise that he was going to have a long lecture about this in the morning before letting you all dejectedly slink back to the tents. Max shot you a death glare before Neil followed him to their tent, and you and Nikli were forced to go back to your own tents. That was fine. You didn't want to face them anyway.
You sat down on your bed and stared at the side of the tent for a bit, while somberly stroking Tattletail's soft violet fur. After a few minutes Nikki spoke up from behind you somewhere, "(y/n)?"
You didn't respond. Some seconds passed before the teal-haired girl said, "Don't feel too bad, it wasn't your fault that David followed us out there." But it was though. If you hadn't freaked David never would have known anything.
You felt a weight on your back and around your shoulders and you realized Nikki was hugging you. In that moment you bit your lip and fought back tears of guilt and dejection and luckily managed to hide it until she let go and went to lay down in her own bed again.
"Night, (y/n)..." she murmured before most likely drifting off. After a while you slowly climbed under your covers, cuddling Tattletail close. You eventually decided after some thought to turn him off but you kept holding him anyway to ground yourself.
And as you lay in bed, staring at the blank walls of your tent, cuddling Tattletail close to you, you started to ask yourself why. Why mama was still after you against all odds. And how you were going to stop her this time, away from home and without the illusion of safety to give you courage.
