Chapter 3
Jotaro looked out at the approaching oil tanker, disgust crossing his face as he looked at it. "Oh, Jotaro is something wrong?" Polnareff asked as he glanced at the teen stare out the window of the cabin.
"There's an oil tanker..." He stated. "And? It's not like it can't be on the ocean."
"Yeah but... Something seems odd about it..." Jotaro continued. "Other than the fact it could spill oil into the ocean. It's just... I have this weird feeling that it could be stand related." He continued.
"Huh? A stand? but we just came across one." Kakyoin stated. "Well, I mean it is approaching the ship, I'm assuming it is stand adjacent." The ravenette stated as he continued to peer out the window.
The oddest part was that there didn't seem to be any crew on board, they expected to be jumped by a barrage of attackers, but the tanker just stopped right in front of their boat. "Someone must be desperate to keep us from getting to Egypt." Jotaro thought. He turned and noticed that Polnareff was still holding Josuke in his hands.
He immediately took the toddler from him, keeping Josuke against his chest. He knew Joseph and the others trusted Polnareff, but the raven-haired teen was still uneasy, especially when it came to his baby relative. "Uh, was if something I said?"
Jotaro didn't respond, he simply boarded onto the oil tanker. Star Platinum was out and ready in case of a surprise attack. The rest of the team followed afterwards. "I didn't think Jotaro was this protective over the baby." The Frenchman thought. "I wasn't holding him wrong, was I? Or maybe I was gripping him too tight?"
Avdol patted his shoulder. "Josuke likes you, but it seems you'll have to do a bit more to show Jotaro you mean no harm."
On the oil tanker, it was surprisingly empty. There were no crew, there wasn't even a captain. "How did the boat come all the way here if there isn't anyone driving it?" Joseph asked himself as he looked around the tanker.
"I mean either the captain is somewhere else, or the boat is a stand of some kind." Jotaro commented as he carried Josuke around. It was like a ghost town, except it was a boat, with no signs of life existing on the boat.
That was until they made it to the storage of the boat, seeing an orangutang dressed in a sailor outfit just vibing there. Near it was a Rubix cube as well as a porn mag, making Jotaro cover his baby relative's eyes as to not corrupt it with the images of the magazine. "What the hell? Why is there a monkey here?"
"Well, technically it's an orangutang. Though you are right, it is odd to see one here in the middle of the ocean on this type of boat." Kakyoin commented.
Josuke was as curious as ever at the large primate, to him it looked like a big teddy bear with all the fuzz it had on. He babbled, making grabby hands towards the creature. "Not a good idea, Josuke. Orangutans are strong enough to tear apart a crocodile's jaws; even tiny chimps can easily carry a grown man around." Kakyoin explained. "We'll get you a plushie once we get to Singapore."
Josuke wasn't deterred however, he watched as the large primate pointed to the lock on its cage. "I guess the owner didn't treat it well. Let's keep moving, this guy is giving me the creeps." Jotaro responded, walking away from the orangutan's cage.
"I mean maybe it's stand isn't something obvious? Like maybe it doesn't take a humanoid form." Kakyoin suggested as a possibility.
"Well, I mean it can't be that useful of a stand if that thing's stuck in a cage." Polnareff commented as he looked at the primate. "Yare Yare, if that thing is a stand user, it probably is affiliated with DIO, so it's not like it's stand could be harmless." The raven-haired teen stated as the group walked around, looking for the stand.
But it's stand was out; it had been the whole time. In fact, they were inside of it as they spoke. It wasn't obvious at first since the orangutang wanted to be less obvious upon his stand's ability.
As the team left the area, the large primate unlocked the cage itself. It was as if the ship was being altered to suit the orangutan's needs. In an instant, pipes burst out of the ship walls, they would have wrapped around the team if Silver Chariot didn't slice them apart beforehand. Oil filled the room up to their ankles; one little match could set everyone ablaze. Unfortunately, this meant Avdol had to rely on his own physical strength should he need to fight on his own.
The ship continued to twist itself around, crushing the exit door and forming more pipes to wrap around the team. Just one or two could have been handled no problem, but they were now beginning to overwhelm the group. Josuke helped out as best he could with Crazy Diamond's tiny fists pummeling at the pipes. "The ship itself is the stand." The fortune teller realized.
The primate kept its distance as it watched the team struggle against the pipes, however he failed to notice that there were only four of them below, a certain old man was elsewhere on the ship. It didn't think too hard about it, that is until purple vines wrapped around the animal. "DIO hired an ape? I didn't think he'd be this desperate to get rid of us. Did he just visit the local zoo and decide "this guy's hired" or something?" Joseph joked.
The primate tried to use its stand but alas, he could only focus on one part of the ship at a time so if he attacked Joseph, the others would be able to escape. But it being an orangutang, put survival first and tried moving the floorboards a bit.
However, with its focus moved to a different part of the boat, the other crusaders could escape via Star Platinum punching the absolute shit out of the enclosed exit. Since the boat itself was a stand, the ape took damage.
As the orangutang took damage the stand started to disappear, not that it was dying or anything, but it passed out from the intensity of the punches. Once the crusaders were able to get out of the hold, the true shape of the boat was revealed, well, what the stand was bound to.
"All this time it was just a tiny fishing boat? Pfft, this ape was definitely overcompensating for something." Polnareff joked. "Well, I can see the shores of Singapore from here, so it won't be long now until we can find a decent hotel and get some sleep. Look at the little guy there, he's already snoozing peacefully."
All the fighting got Josuke worn out, he was curled up like a kitten in Jotaro's arms. "I guess he is, let's go."
Once on the docks, the Speedwagon Foundation gave the team food packages, water and baby supplies before leaving. "It'll be safer for us to bunk together, three rooms all on the same floor if possible." Joseph explained to the group as they checked into a nearby hotel. "That way if something comes up, we'll be able to reach each other without any issues."
As luck would have it, three rooms were available, two with two single beds and the third with a double. "Who will Josuke stay with?" Jotaro asked. "Uh, I was just asking."
Joseph chuckled. "You want him to stay beside ya, Jotaro? I could show ya how to change his di-"
"Uh no, I Uh... I just don't want him to be lonely. It's not like any of the rooms come with a crib."
"You don't have to act tough Jotaro. Caring for others isn't a weakness." Kakyoin stated. "But the true question is who's sleeping in which room. I mean if there's only one room with two beds, how would that work?" Polnareff asked.
"Well, I thought about it like this. Basically, I'll have the room on the left, a single room, and since I'm assuming Jotaro wants to keep an eye on Josuke, he, Josuke and Kakyoin will share the double room so that there's room for the baby. Uh, you and Avdol don't mind sharing a bed, do you?" Joseph suggested.
Polnareff became beet red at the thought of sleeping with another man. "Oh, uh, sure, I don't mind. Not sure about Avdol though, but-"
"I'm fine with it. Besides it's only for one night so it won't be that much of a problem." Avdol stated. He looked at the blushing Frenchman, wondering if something was wrong. "Are you feeling alright Polnareff?"
"Huh? Oh, yeah I'm fine, just never slept with a man before." Polnareff stated.
With everyone settled, Jotaro placed his baby relative onto the bed. "Uh, he's squirming around. Is that bad?" He mumbled.
"I think he's just bored; I have his bottle ready." Kakyoin assured him. He sat beside the toddler, bottle feeding him. "You've really opened up since we started this trip, back in Japan you had no problem calling your own mom a bitch."
Jotaro just blushed at the remark, moving his hat down to cover up his flustered face. "I uh... I guess there's just something about Josuke that's making me soft. I just have a hard time really bonding with anyone." He admitted, laying back on the bed.
Once Josuke was fed, Kakyoin laid down beside the fellow teen. "I like this change, I can talk to you more, and the little Jojo here likes it too." He remarked.
"Um, little Jojo?"
"Just a nickname, since he's younger he's little. And I was thinking I could call you Jojo. If you want, I think it's cute."
Jotaro blushed even more; he never got a nickname before. "Uh, it's nice." His thoughts were stopped short when Josuke took his hat, placing it on his own head.
Jotaro just stared at Josuke, not wanting to get violent, especially after what Kakyoin said about liking the softer side of him. "Awe, he looks so cute with your hat on." Kakyoin noted awing at the baby.
The raven-haired teen just kept staring at him. That hat has been on his head for almost a year now and the sensation of it being off wasn't good to Jotaro. He was dealing with a conflict of interest right now. "Uh, Jotaro, are you good?" The redhead asked, noticing Jotaro.
"Huh, oh, it's nothing, I guess... He does look... Cute, I guess..." The raven-haired teen responded. But Kakyoin wasn't taking it.
"Jotaro, something's wrong I can sense-"
"Nothing is wrong..." Jotaro lied, it's not like Kakyoin would understand it anyway. The redhead sighed softly. "Well, alright, I guess I can't force it out of you."
Josuke looked down at the teen, then at the hat he had on. Despite being only a couple months old he could tell something was wrong with Jotaro. He took the hat off, placing it back on the older Jojo's head. "Uh, thanks. You uh... You could have kept it if you want, I mean, don't let me being upset stop you..." The teen sputtered, he tugged at his jacket from the conflicting feelings he had that moment. "I uh- gah." He could barely speak.
"Jojo, hey." Kakyoin moved closer, placing his hand on Jotaro's. "Just take a deep breath, watch me." The redhead inhaled a deep breath in, then slowly exhaled. He continued as his distressed friend copied his breathing. "You feeling better now?"
"Uh, a little... Sorry you had to see that..." The ravenette mumbled. "Is it... Weird that I don't like being without a hat? I even wear it when I'm sleeping. I just need to have something covering my head, my old classmates thought it was weird, they tore the back off of it one day."
Josuke had crawled into his lap, curling up and laying against his chest, hearing his heartbeat. "If you like wearing it, don't let anyone tell you otherwise." Was all Kakyoin responded with. He would have continued if he didn't overhear metal clanging and flames erupting from the room next door. "Gah! The others are being attacked."
But as soon as they opened the door leading to Polnareff and Avdol's room, all they found was a sliced-up marionette and the two adults covered in cuts and bruises. "Oh, I guess you took care of it yourselves."
"Yeah, we sure did. okay, well I'm going to find a first aid kit or something to deal with these cuts-" Polnareff started before noticing Josuke released Crazy Diamond. The baby thought that if he healed Avdol before he could heal both of them.
Which he did successfully. "Ah, merci beacoup, poupon!" The Frenchman stated with a smile as he was healed. "What did you call him?" Jotaro asked, cocking an eyebrow, unaware of the French language.
"Oh! I just thanked him. Poupon means little baby in French, and he is a little baby." Polnareff explained. "... I guess." The ravenette teen stated, watching as Josuke recalled Crazy Diamond.
Just then, Joseph burst into the room. "OH MY GOD! I used Hermit Purple and it said there was a stand user nearby!"
"Uh, yeah, we just dealt with it." Polnareff said pointing at the puppet on the floor.
"... Well that was fast. Guess the guy was all talk, huh?" The old man remarked.
"Oh please, he kept talking about how he was going to slice of my uh-" as Josuke was in the room at the moment, Polnareff couldn't exactly what Ebony Devil was about to do to his private parts. "My uh, my fingers! Yeah, that was it. Well anyways, was there anything else from that stand of yours?"
The broken camera in Joseph's room answered that question, all that was beside it was an image of the marionette. "The only problem with using Hermit Purple is I have to bust a camera every time, the vines wrap around it so tight that it can't hold its form."
As the adults were talking, Kakyoin decided to enjoy the sunshine and went to the hotel pool. Jotaro would have gone with him, but he didn't want Josuke to fall in the water or get burnt. "Jiji, does your stand only work on cameras? I think that TV should be able to broadcast spirit photography too." He mentioned.
"Huh? I never thought to try it, it'll probably hold a lot better too." Turning towards the TV, Joseph wrapped Hermit Purple around it.
The television screen flashed as it flipped through the channels. Listening to the message, it mentioned Kakyoin. But not in a positive way. "Ka-ky-oin is- an imposter." It said in broken pieces of dialogue. Hearing this made Jotaro paused.
That couldn't be, could it? He seemed so sincere with him earlier, Jotaro wasn't going to believe it. "Was that all a ruse? Was he trying to make me soft on purpose so he could get to me?" He thought.
"Um, Jotaro are you okay?" Polnareff asked noticing the tension on the teen's face. "Yeah... I need to talk to Kakyoin..."
"What? But Hermit Purple said-"
"I don't care, I'm going to talk to him. If he has the nerve to deceive me, as well as everyone else, then he's about to get it." Jotaro stated as he summoned Star Platinum. He tried to give Josuke to Joseph, but he didn't want to stay with the old man, he wanted to fight too.
As he stormed down the hallway, he bumped into none other than the redhead that was on his mind. "What's the matter, Jotaro? Something popped up?" He asked.
Jotaro wanted to punch him right in the face, but he still thought about what happened earlier, how they got to bond on the ship and in the room. He didn't want to believe that Kakyoin was a traitor, could another flesh bud have got to him while they were fighting the ape? "Uh, it's nothing... the old man just saw something in his room."
"Really now? Well, I was wondering you want to get a bite? It's been hours since we had lunch." The fellow teen asked. "There's a coconut stand just across the street."
Jotaro was still on edge, but maybe the spirit photography was wrong? So far Kakyoin was still acting like his usual self. "Alright, a coconut wouldn't hurt."
The stand had the refreshing treat as well as some cherries that came with it. "You gonna have those? It'd be a waste if you just tossed your cherries away."
Shrugging his shoulders, the ravenette handed his friend the cherries. What happened next was something he thought he'd never see, Kakyoin was just rolling the cherry around on his tongue, never taking his eyes off of Jotaro. He rolled it around on his tongue even faster until it fell out of his mouth.
"What was that?" Jotaro asked. "Oh? You never seen anything like that, Jotaro?" Kakyoin stated. "No, it's weird, why would show me that?" The ravenette teen commented. "Oh, I thought you'd want to see what this tongue could do-"
"No, I don't... You seem... Different..." Jotaro said, surprising Kakyoin a bit. "O-Oh? What are you talking about Jotaro?"
"You seem a lot more... Foward. You were meek before... I don't like this..." The ravenette stated as he started to back away. "Oh? Are you scared of getting action Jotaro?" The redhead asked with a little laugh.
"You aren't Kakyoin."
"Huh- What so you mean? Of course I'm Kakyoin." Kakyoin, or who Jotaro thought was Kakyoin asked, a nervous sweat forming on his face. "Kakyoin wouldn't make fun of me like that."
"Well maybe I just wanna show off a newer side of m-" but before the redhead could finish his sentence, Josuke summoned Crazy Diamond and bapped him in the face. The baby blew a raspberry at a job well done, only to squeak out in fear as Kakyoin's face seemingly tore apart before his very eyes.
"Gah, you little brat!" The imposter hissed, his tongue was even longer than before, still rolling the cherry around in his mouth. "Guess there's no point hiding it any longer, huh? Not that it matters much when you're both dead!"
Jotaro took a step back as whom he first thought was Kakyoin twisted into an entirely different person. "Just who the hell are you? What did you do with the real Kakyoin?!" He snapped, summoning Star Platinum immediately afterwards. Bad idea, the stand got wrapped up in a yellow syrupy substance.
"Call me Rubber Soul, and you got yourself caught in my stand, Yellow Temperance!" The newcomer cackled. "Oh, I'm definitely gonna get a raise for dealing with you and that baby too! Then I think I'll disguise myself as you and deal with that redhead after this"
Jotaro tried to pull his star platinum away, only for Yellow Temperance to move with him. "Heh, you idiot, you can't escape Yellow Temperance's grasp. You're just going to get sucked until you're a husk."
This would have made anyone just give up, since he couldn't release from the stand. But, Jotaro had an idea based on this.
"Damn, I didn't want to ever use this, but I need to use my old man's secret technique..." Jotaro stated. "What? A secret technique? Like what? Hitting me is futile, since Yellow Temperance is basically invincible." Rubber soul commented.
"Hitting you has nothing to do with it." Jotaro stated before starting to run off. "Hah! Running away? I didn't think you such a puss-"
Before the piss-colored stand user could gloat and bully Jotaro, he noticed he was being dragged as Jotaro ran. "Wait what the hell?!" He thought as he was dragged.
The shoreline was just up ahead, could the saltwater loosen the grip on Star Platinum? It was worth a shot, placing Josuke on the sand, Jotaro leapt right into the ocean. "Gah! What the hell are you doing? You seriously think a little dip will wash away my Yellow Temperance? Now you're gonna drown and be nothing more than a pile of clothes and bones once I'm done!" Rubber Soul cackled.
He seemed to have spoken too soon, a sewer grate was right beside Jotaro, and as luck would have it, the shirtless man was standing above a manhole cover. Motioning towards Josuke, the smaller stand dashed through the sewers, a boulder in hand. "Am I the luckiest man alive or what? If killing you is this easy, it'll be a breeze taking out the rest of your team!"
"Oh really? I think about now luck wouldn't be on your side." Jotaro smirked. Rubber Soul was about to argue back when the head got smashed in by the rock Crazy Diamond was carrying. "Your stand's a lot stronger than it looks, huh little guy?"
Once Yellow Temperance finally let go, Jotaro got right back up to the surface and pummeled the enemy stand user until he was out cold. He got some nasty burns from where the yellow syrup covered him most, but it was nothing Crazy Diamond couldn't handle.
All the commotion going on outside got the attention of the three adults, as well as the real Kakyoin. "Kak? Where were you all this time?"
"I was sunbathing."
"... With your uniform on?"
"Yeah, I didn't see why not." Kakyoin stated. "Oh well, at least that stand user's dealt with." Jotaro sighed before hugging Kakyoin. "Oh, uh, Jotaro, are you okay? Well, y'know other than dealing with an enemy stand user by yourself." The redhead asked, gently petting his head.
"I just... i just can't believe he tricked me... He was you, I fell for it..." The ravenette stated. "Hey it's okay, it's not your fault. His stand probably would have fooled me if it turned into you. So don't beat yourself up over it." the shorter teen stated before Jotaro let go.
"Alright, where too now?"
"Well, I was thinking we should stay the night before we continue. Especially since you went through so much. We should probably get some rest." Joseph stated. "Well alright."
However, it was going to be a restless night for the black-haired teen. He was still on edge from what happened earlier. He just laid awake, since Josuke was fast asleep, and he assumed Kakyoin was asleep too. So, it was just him and his thoughts.
"Why am I feeling this way around Kak? Gah, I mean Kakyoin. We're just friends, right? I mean, I never really had friends, so I don't know if this is normal. But it has to be right? I don't think he even likes me that way." Jotaro thought. He wanted to wake up the other teen and talk, but he decided against it.
"He looks peaceful. Ngh, I should at least try to sleep. I know one thing; I won't ever assume Kak will betray us again."
The night passed by a little too quickly for him, he sat silently as everyone got on the train to India. "Hey Jojo, mind if I have one of those cherries? Not to be greedy but they are my favorite."
"Huh? Oh yeah, go ahead." Jotaro mumbled.
The moment Kakyoin took the red fruit, he began rolling it around on his tongue. "Eh? He actually does that?" The ravenette thought.
"Oh look Jojo, flamingos in flight."
"..... Oh good grief."
