★Chapter 9★
"Is this the place?" Kakyoin asked looking at the building in front of them. He and Jotaro were invited by Josuke to go out with them on a double date, which they accepted, assuming the young couple needed help on a date. "Looks like it. But it's odd... Who would open a restaurant near a graveyard?" Jotaro questioned. Just as he said that Josuke and Okuyasu showed up.
"Sorry we're late, I had an issue with my hair." Josuke said awkwardly. "It's fine. Let's just go in." Jotaro said entering and holding the door open for the rest of the group. Josuke was about to go in until he made saw a sign which read "Menu Completo, Diner Contingent, Dessert and Coffee included, 3500 yen." But something was off to the pompadoured teen.
"Diner Contingent? What does that mean?" He thought out loud.
"Well, contingent is an English word meaning "Subject of chance." But I'm not sure how that relates to this restaurant. Guess we'll find out when we get inside." Kakyoin stated as they entered.
It was a small, quiet little restaurant with three tables. There wasn't a waiter in sight, there weren't even any menus to grab and read. Although it was still eerie that a person would open a restaurant next to a cemetery. "Uh, anyone else getting creeped out? Like what if the chef has a taste for human? Or uses the corpses in his food?" Okuyasu thought, keeping a tight grip on his boyfriend's arm.
"I doubt it, I don't smell anything off around here. Besides, if the chef really was harvesting the dead, it would have made news immediately. Maybe they're just closed, let's come back ano-"
But before Josuke could finish his thoughts, a tall figure came out from the kitchen. "Ah, ciao. I didn't hear you come in." He spoke. "Are you all together or would you like separate tables?"
"Two separate tables for two couples, so we'll owe you 7000 yen. Are you the owner?"
"Ah yes, my name is Tonio." The chef led the couples to their tables, giving them water to start.
"Uh, we noticed you don't have menus, is this related to the continu.. uh, congenti.. the subject to change that was on your sign outside?" Okuyasu asked.
"That it is. You will get a whole three courses with drinks and dessert in the end. I determine what you would like most in my own way. Ah, I can see you have very stiff shoulders, and you didn't get enough sleep."
"Whooa, how did you know that?"
"I glanced at your palm. Though the eyes are a window to one's soul, the palm's are a window to one's life." Tonio explained. "But one glance isn't enough to plan out three meals, please let me look at them closely."
Okuyasu did so. "Alright, so you have diarrhea, mostly caused by stress and you have three cavities, one on your top row of teeth and two on the bottom row." Tonio stated as he read Okuyasu's palms, shocking the teen. "Wha- I do, that's so crazy how you can read that from my palms!"
"I don't buy it." Jotaro stated. "Well, show me your palms." The chef stated, and Jotaro did reluctantly. "Hmm... You have early onset bronchitis caused from smoking as a teen, you also seem to have insomnia." Tonio stated. Jotaro was stunned. "How about you, with the pompadour."
"Oh, I'm good, I don't think I have anything wrong with me." Josuke stated putting his hands up on instinct, but realized he showed his palms. Tonio looked puzzled as he looked at Josuke's palms. "Oh, how peculiar. You have a lot of Testosterone for someone of your sex. Are you... How would you say it? A 'special boy'?" He asked. Josuke, palling a little from this, just looked away, nodding. "Ah, I see, so I'll just ignore that. Well, you also have insomnia, a lot of bad sleepers here." Tonio stated before going to read Kakyoin's palm.
"Let's see now. You're quite underweight for your height, and you seem to have a deep gash on your forehead. It was enough to crack the bone in your skull."
"Eheh, yeah, um. At school I tripped and fell on top of a nail, it hurt like hell, but I didn't think it caused that much damage." The redhead replied. He didn't know how to explain a flesh bud to the chef, nor did he know it still caused some lingering damage. He always kept his scar hidden under a fringe of hair.
With all that information, Tonio returned to the kitchen. As he left, Okuyasu decided to take a sip of the water given. "Whoa, it's so refreshing."
"Uh yeah, water is like that." Josuke joked.
"No I mean, like super refreshing! Like I'm drinking right out of a frozen glacier high above the arctic circle but filtered out all the bad stuff and made it the dictionary definition of pure spring water." The other teen exclaimed. "Uh, I got no other way of describing how good this is!"
Josuke was about to respond when he noticed his boyfriend was tearing up immediately. "Hey man, I didn't think water could move you this much."
"Oh man, I had no idea. Must be the taste, oh, it's like it's flushing all the impurities away." The tears came pouring out even faster now, like his eyes were squeezing out all the tiredness out of him. "Oh man, I feel wide awake! Like I ate straight caffeine!"
"What the hell? What the fuck kind of water is this?" Josuke stated, being on edge since every time something weird happens a stand is behind it. "But there's no way that chef's a stand user, right? I mean, he looks pretty normal." He thought.
"Josuke calm down. I mean yeah it's weird, but I'm not hurt." Okuyasu said. "Sorry, I'm just on edge."
"Wait that water made you energized?" Jotaro asked, downing his water before Okuyasu could continue. It was refreshing, as was exclaimed by the teen. And he too had tears, draining his eyes and refreshing them. "Shit, I haven't felt this awake since Kakyoin and I were in high school." The ravenette adult stated. Being a college student, he didn't have the best sleeping schedule, so this was nice.
Josuke was still iffy about this. Mainly because of what Tonio said; He knew his hormones were out of wack, what if he was going to 'fix' them against the pompadoured teen's will? As the teen was thinking about this, Tonio returned with the first course, a caprese salad. "Huh? What is this?" Okuyasu asked.
"It's a caprese salad. Slices of tomato, mozzarella, and basil layered and then drizzled with a light olive oil, with a pit of pepper." The chef explained. "Mozza- what?"
"Mozzarella is a semi-soft cheese from Italy, it is usually made with buffalo milk." Tonio explained.
"You can get milk from buffalos too? I thought it was just cows." Okuyasu remarked, cutting up some of the soft cheese to eat. "Mm, it's got a nice texture, but not much when it comes to taste."
"On its own it might seem a little bland, however you're supposed to have it accompany the other flavors in the dish. Try it with the tomato and basil together." Tonio explained.
So, the teen did so, as soon as all the flavors hit his lips, he felt as if he was in heaven. "Oh man, all the deliciousness all comes together in a single mouthful! The soft cheese, the tangy tomato and the crisp basil, all held together by the light, subtle olive oil." Okuyasu exclaimed. "Oh man, I never had anything like it! It's so damn good!"
"I am so glad you like it. I grow my own tomatoes you know?"
Figuring the water was a one-time thing, Jotaro and Kakyoin ate from their salads too while Tonio got started on the next meal. "I dunno about this guys, the water made you both super energized? Who knows what that other stuff can do?"
Jotaro was about to respond when smoke begun pouring out from his nostrils.
"What the-" The ravenette adult started before starting to cough. And not just like something hit the back of his throat, it was like he was hacking up a lung. With each cough, a cloud of smoke emerged from his mouth. Until a glob of smokey black sludge came from his throat. It smelt like 50 cigarettes, so pungent that Josuke could smell it from his seat. "Ugh..." Jotaro stated, looking at it.
"Oh, seems like I'll have to get a new tablecloth." Tonio stated, having smelt the scent of cigarettes coming from the dining area. "Uh, what was that...?" Jotaro asked as Tonio opened the window.
"Hmm? Seems like your lungs cleared themselves. This is tar that would have been in your lungs." Tonio stated as he pulled the tablecloth from the table not even needing to remove anything from it. It was a rather impressive feat.
And he was right, Jotaro took a breath, and it was so easy and smooth. "Huh..." Was all Jotaro could say, thinking about it.
"Man, this is too weird, then again, medical stuff always makes me uneasy." Josuke thought, trying to contact Okuyasu psychokinetically. Unfortunately for him, he was busy enjoying the meal. Thinking something's up, Josuke summoned Crazy Diamond.
Crazy Diamond had this quirky new ability. Basically, along with healing people and fixing things, Josuke's stand could revert meals to their core ingredients, for example if a meal used tomatoes, it would revert it to a whole tomato.
"Aw man, I was about to finish that!" Okuyasu whined as his dish was reverted back into its core ingredients. Everything seemed to be as normal, the tomatoes, cheese and basil were fresh, and the olive oil was extra virgin. "I think you're now being the paranoid one, Josuke. So far everything seems to be-"
But before Okuyasu could finish his sentence, a tooth popped right out of his mouth, one of his molars. "Gah! That stings!" He yelped, but that wasn't all. He realized the tooth that came out was one of his cavities, and as soon as it was out, a brand-new tooth grew back in its place. "Whoa, I didn't know teeth worked like that."
"Uh, they don't. You only get two sets of teeth. Though, sharks are always losing and replacing teeth every day." Jotaro explained, he was still in shock from all the tar that came out of his mouth. "It seems the stand heals, but in a very extreme way."
Immediately, two more teeth burst out of Okuyasu's mouth and onto the table, with replacements growing in immediately afterwards. "Aw man, won't Keicho be shocked to see me now!"
"I mean I guess, wait does he look at your mouth constantly? That's the only way he'd be able to tell the difference. Anyway, if this is a stand, then it doesn't have ill intent... for the most part." Josuke stated. "Oh, what's that?"
The pompadoured teen looked as saw the chef, who had the next course ready, staring at Crazy Diamond. "So, you are a stand user. You aren't like, going to kill us are you?" Josuke asked, just to be safe. "Che diavolo! What would give you that idea? Also, what is a stand?" Tonio asked, a bit confused.
"Well, a stand is a being that represents your fighting spirit, or your soul, or whatever, anyway, only other stand users can see stands. Since you can see Crazy Diamond, you're a stand user. And the past 5 or so stands were trying to kill or attack us, so I just assumed." Josuke explained.
"I see, I understand your unease. my pearl jam means no harm, I just want to heal people with my cooking. Also, I noticed that you haven't touched your caprese. Is something wrong with it?"
"Huh? Oh, nothing's it's just uh... well, I'm just worried. I mean I know the others were healed when it comes to teeth or gunk in their lungs and stuff, but what I'm going through is a bit more complicated." Josuke explained. He didn't know how he was going to tell everyone that he was transgender, especially since as a baby Tomoko still referred to him as male, he just preferred it.
"I see, I'm afraid my Pearl Jam only affects physical ailments, conditions such as emotional trauma or PTSD won't be affected." Tonio explained, not realizing what Josuke was talking about until he noticed the teen shaking. "When they enter a person, they will pinpoint an injury or illness and target it, they only emerge when the target has been cured."
"Yeah, that's it! What if they mess up and undo all that T I was on?" Josuke immediately covered his mouth once he realized he said it out loud. He slowly turned to Okuyasu, worried about what his new boyfriend would think. He didn't want to lose his possibly only boyfriend.
"Hey, Josuke? You're uh-"
"I wasn't born a boy; I'll just say it out loud. I'm on testosterone and I figured since I'm already flat chested I would pass easily at school."
"Wait you're transgender? Damn, how did your mom even know?" Jotaro asked, not really caring that Josuke's gender.
"Well, apparently when I was a baby, like before we met, I would throw fits whenever I was called a girl, or like, my mom's daughter. She did notice that I liked being called boy words and such, well that's just according to my mom." Josuke explained.
"Josuke, why didn't you tell us sooner?" Kakyoin asked, concerned about the teen. "Well... I don't know, I'm just scared... Y'know about you and Jotaro, and everyone else turning against me." Josuke stated. "And now Okuyasu probably wants to break up with me-"
"What? Why would I break up with you?" Okuyasu asked confused. "Wha- Because I'm not a real boy." Josuke responded. "But you are a real boy, even if you don't have a cock and balls. Besides, I didn't fall in love with you because of the thought of you having a shlong, I fell in love with you because you're a super cool person."
Josuke paused looking at his boyfriend. He expected him to yell at him and leave or at least be upset at this. But he wasn't. He just looked at him in a warm, caring way, showing how much he loved him.
"Man, Oku... You're the best." The pompadour haired teen mumbled, only to be pulled into a hug and kissed by Okuyasu. "This has to be the best date ever. I was so worried what would happen if this got out uh... I dunno if anyone else would feel the same."
"I won't tell, this is just between us. Just letting that out would be a major breach in privacy." He promised, followed by the two adults nodding in agreement.
Tonio smiled at the sight, taking the empty plates off of the table. "I'll make sure to leave Pearl Jam out of your dishes." He promised. "What you look like on the outside doesn't determine who you are inside. If you say you are a male, then that's what you are."
Josuke never expected everyone in the room to accept him, even knowing that he hasn't fully transitioned. But he was thankful for it, especially now that he won't have to worry about the Pearl Jam messing up his T intake. The next course was a delicious looking plate of pasta with red pepper flakes.
The older couple were sharing a plate of pasta with fresh scallops, Kakyoin could feel the scar where his flesh bud once was healing up.
"Oh! it's healed." Kakyoin stated as he felt the painful experience of his scar healing. It felt like a migraine but ten times worse. But after the pain, it settled, leaving the redhead free of facial scars.
As the two eat the pasta, one noodle was longer than the others, and said noodle were in each of the men's mouths. Needless to say, they were both flustered "Oh? What's this? Are we about to kiss?" Kakyoin thought, telepathically talking to Jotaro.
"If you want to."
And so, they slurped down the pasta, inching slowly closer and closer until their lips touched which then melted into a soft kiss. Once the kiss dissipated, Jotaro thought he should ask something. "Noriaki... I have something to ask you."
"Hmm, Noriaki? You're using my first name. This is serious then, what's on your mind?"
"Uh... Um... Have you ever thought about getting married?" Jotaro asked his boyfriend. "Now? I mean I thought about it, but there's so much to plan and you're still in college.
When we get married, I want you to be there for your opinion on things." Kakyoin stated. "Why do you ask?"
"Oh, no reason." Jotaro stated. He forgot that he was still in college.
"Damn, it's way too soon. I shouldn't have asked about it." The ravenette thought to himself, he was embarrassed now just for asking it. He should have known that they would be too busy with studies to propose. "I uh... I mean, when we graduate and get our degrees, that would be a good time to-I mean I-"
Kakyoin chuckled as he watched his boyfriend stumble over his words, he could be adorable sometimes. It reminded him of how Jotaro would often be awkward around him once they started having feelings for each other back in Egypt. "Well, I know Advol and Polnareff have never been happier the moment they became husbands. They kept Iggy too, bless his little doggy soul."
"Yeah, as much as he loved tormenting Polnareff the moment they met." Jotaro remarked. "I guess it was pretty funny watching them fight."
It was then Kakyoin realized what was going on, Jotaro wanted to propose to him. They had been together for many years, 11 to be precise, but with everything else going on in their lives, school, graduation and now getting jobs and finishing their degrees, they never seemed to have a moment for themselves.
Jotaro just sat there, in his thoughts. He was now extremely nervous for fucking up this badly. At least he thought he did I mean how could he forget the situation they're in. "Am I that shitty of a boyfriend to forget that my boyfriend is literally going to art school?" Jotaro thought, immediately self-doubting himself.
Kakyoin could sense that the ravenette adult was spiraling, mainly from the look on his face. So, thinking fast, the redhead took a hold of his hand.
"Jotaro. I think we can both agree that I would absolutely love to be your husband, but after we graduate. I mean, I only have a year left for my associate degree, which is all I really need since I'm focusing on art. But then you have about 2 years left. I can wait two years, hell I could wait forever if I need to until everything is ready, all I need is to be with you." The redhead stated as he stroked the hand of his partner with his thumb.
"Right... I'm going to work even harder so that we can get married..." Jotaro said after a few seconds of silence, becoming grounded into reality as his hand was held.
The couple sat together as they held each other, they would have sat together if the chairs were big enough for them both. The two adults leaned closer together so they could kiss, nuzzling each other until the main course was brought out, delicious roast lamb with garlic bread for the couples to share.
Tonio had never seen two more loving couples in his lifetime, he hoped that they would come again, perhaps to cater to a future wedding. "Are the dishes to your liking?" He asked as he approached their tables.
"Oh yeah! Man, this is the best meal I ever had. Ugh, I'm starting to get pretty full though. I think I'll just have a cup of coffee." Josuke remarked as he dug into his lamb, all that was left on his plate was the bone and some bits of fat.
"I can see that. And for your date? I have prepared some tiramisu, it's popular but a classic."
"Whoa, now that sounds good. Dessert is the ultimate pick me up."
"Heh, that's what the word translates to: Pick me up, as in to cheer one up." Tonio explained.
After the couples finished and paid, deciding to get two checks, one for each couple even though Jotaro offered to pay for both of them. But Josuke insisted on paying for his date because he felt like he should since this was his and Oku's first date. It was rather pricey but to the pompadoured teen it was worth it.
Once it was the meal was paid for, the two couples decided to walk home. "Wow. That was an amazing experience!" Okuyasu exclaimed as he walked with his boyfriend, arms interlocked with his.
"I know, this won't be a date I'll ever forget." Josuke said with a slight laugh. He was just so happy that everything was still good between him and Okuyasu. But he somewhat worried about what Keicho would think about his brother dating him. But he wasn't going to worry about that right now.
Once they were at Okuyasu's house, Josuke hugged and kissed him. "Alright, see you tomorrow. Love you." He smiled softly, letting go. "Love you too." Oku stated waving as the pompadoured teen went home.
As much fun as today was, it wasn't going to last, as a new stand user was already selected.
