Chapter 129: Kind
The next day Tasha had off of work, so she spent it mainly laying in bed, only getting up when the doorbell rang at around 7pm.
"Gavin?" Tasha was surprised when she opened the door, finding the man standing there with two bags in both of his hands. Whatever he had in them, smelt absolutely delicious. "What are you doing here?"
"Well," Gavin smiled at her, holding up the bags in front of her face. "I thought you could use a pick me up. And judging by your appearance, I doubt you've eaten today."
Tasha opened her mouth to rebuttal but as soon as she tried to speak her stomach growled, making Gavin laugh.
"Alright, I might be a little hungry." Tasha opened the door, leaning against it so Gavin could walk past her.
Gavin glanced around her living room, setting the bags of food on the table. "I've never seen your place before." He was quiet for a moment, noticing the photos framed above the fireplace. She has photos with everyone she cared about — Hank, Connor and Tasha even had a photo with Gavin. "It's nice."
Tasha shrugged, "I've lived here my whole life, it gets kind of bland but it is what it is." She sat down on the couch.
"Now, what lovely food did you bring me?"
Gavin sat on the end of the couch opposite of her, pulling out a take out container that contained Caesar Salad, Pizza and the next had ice cream cake, all of which were her favorites.
"How do you know what I like so well?" Tasha felt giddy as she filled her plate with food.
"I pay attention." Gavin smiled as he watched her dig into the food, grabbing himself a plate.
"You could've fooled me." Tasha said in between bites. "Thank you though. I... I really appreciate it."
Gavin shrugged, "Don't mention it, shorty."
"Hey! You're not that much taller than me!"
"But I'm still taller than you."
Tasha hated to admit it, but she enjoyed spending time with Gavin. He wasn't as much of an ass, and he seemed genuine. It wasn't something she was used to but she decided not to question it and just enjoy it.
As Gavin glanced over at Tasha, he saw how she just barely had a smile on her face, her lips curved at the edges hardly noticeable. He followed her gaze, which was out the window — she was waiting for Connor.
How long has she waited for him?
"Do you want to talk about it?"
A sigh left her lips as she averted her gaze to the ground. "Everyone leaves."
"I haven't." He said softly as he moved closer to her, "And you know that Connor loves you, Tasha."
"Why do you stand up for him? You despise him."
Gavin sighed, "Because I want you to be happy, and you love Connor, and Connor loves you — you two make shit way more complicated than it needs to be."
"Said the guy who's single." Tasha teased, shoving his arm playfully.
Gavin rolled his eyes, "Maybe I'm single because I don't wanna date."
"Pssh, yeah right. Aren't you supposed to be an infamous ladies man?" It was her turn to roll her eyes. "Do you wanna watch a movie? I mean you're already here so —"
"Yeah, I'd like that." Gavin didn't hesitate as he answered, bringing up the movie selection on the television. "Anything specific?"
Tasha hummed for a moment as she pondered his question, "Something Disney — but early 2000's Disney, not our time Disney."
"Got it." Gavin shifted through the movies. He knew the ones she liked. He decided Tarzan would be as good a place to start as any.
Both of them enjoyed the movie so much that they didn't hesitate to start another. They watched movies until late into the evening. Tasha ended up resting her head against Gavin's shoulder as she fell asleep. He let her rest there for a while as he finished the last movie. Once it was over he moved slowly, lifting her up into his arms to carry her to her bed.
A pregnant woman shouldn't be sleeping on a couch. She shouldn't even be in this fucking situation. Her lovely fucking husband should be with her.
Gavin walked into her bedroom that he assumed she shared with Connor. He had his clothes neatly sorted while Tasha had hers in a messy pile, making him smile at the distinct difference between the couple.
Gavin laid Tasha gently on the bed, gazing down at her for a moment when he removed his arms from her sides. She looked peaceful.
As Gavin turned to leave, he decided to snoop around the room some more. He saw framed photos scattered throughout the room, but also the entire house, which he assumed were probably more of her and Connor.
When Gavin walked to the doorframe, a small voice called out to him.
"Gavin?" Tasha asked sleepily,
"Yeah...?"
She was silent for a moment and he wasn't sure if she was thinking about what to say or if she had fallen back to sleep. After a couple seconds she regained consciousness, reaching her hand out towards him.
"Stay. Please. I don't want to be alone."
Gavin hesitated, watching as her arm fell back onto the bed as exhaustion threatened to consume her once more. Slowly, he walked over to the bed, laying down on it slowly as to not jar her.
"Is this okay?"
He was laid on the bed facing towards her, making sure his body was an ample amount away from hers.
Tasha merely nodded in reply, a small smile on her face. She looked at him for a moment, her eyelids half closed in a sleepy daze. "You're a good friend, Gavin. Thank you for not leaving me."
He was silent for a moment at her praise. "Go to sleep." Gavin instructed, his expression unreadable, except for the small smile on his face.
Tasha didn't need to be told twice, she allowed herself to fall into a deep sleep, and for once there were no nightmares.
