CHAPTER ONE: SECRETS UNFOLDS

TOMMY WALSH FELT LIKE HIS PARENTS HID A SECRET FROM him. He would remember the nights his parent's would be screaming at each other, throwing items at each other but when he will walk in, they'll changed completely forgetting their fight and putting their focus on him. He always thought their fight mean't nothing, they simply have arguments and then everything is back to normal.

He never once thought it could be about him. He remembers the day he found out about the secret, he dreadfully never wanted to know. He arrived home throwing his book-bag on the couch and turning on the T.V, clicking the controller, clicking through all the channels. He heard crying coming from the kitchen, he scrunched his eyebrows feeling confused. He got up began making his way towards the kitchen.

He found himself staring at his mother sobbing uncontrollably, holding the phone. His mother sobbed terribly, blowing tissues. Her blonde hair held curly tied knots, messier than usual, and she wore no makeup than she normally does.

"Mom," he bend down kneeling next to her. His sixteen year old self didn't know what to do at that moment, he was afraid and scared for his mom, he had no idea of the secret that was about to spill from his mother mouth.

"Are you okay? Mom speak to me." He beg holding her hand he didn't know what was wrong with her.

"There is something that you must know-" She sobbed, trying to maintain her tears. He nodded getting up, grabbing a seat to sit beside her.

"Rick has been shot." She blurted out, sobbing far more worse. Rick Grimes, is his father best friend. Their both police officers around town, they maintain this town to be the friendly town that people could feel safe. He called, Rick, his uncle, but couldn't spend time with him as much as he wanted, his mother will always pulled him away. He felt bad for Carl and Lori, Rick, son and wife, he sure as hell didn't want to be their position, they must be devastated.

"Is dad alright?" He asked. His mother looked up staring into his son hazel eyes like her own. "He is fine, Tommy." She spoke, softly. She took more tissues and wiped her face cleaning her tears.

"He is coming back from the hospital. He mention he might stayed with Lori and Carl, because they need his support right now and said that we have to go by later and see them." She spoke sternly, cleaning her tears with her black-long sleeves. Tommy raised his eyebrow knowing that there was something wrong with her at this moment.

"I want to see dad. We need to go see him and support the Grimes family. They need us, Carl needs me." He spoke, confidently referring to the close bond he has managed to share with Carl growing up.

"Yes of course." She spoke getting up and walking towards the other side of the kitchen frantically walking back and forth.

"Mom, you're not telling me something." He spoke getting up facing his mother, with stern face. That's when she felt tears fell down her face.

"There something you must know, Tommy." She spoke causing Tommy, to shake his head raising his eyebrow.

"When I was sixteen. Rick and I dated, we were a couple for six months, and I loved him and he loved me." She began speaking causing Tommy to open his mouth dumbfounded by this revelation. He didn't know his mother dated Rick. She dated his father best friend.

"He soon met another girl and dump me. I felt lost and betrayed then, I slept with Shane, his best friend. Before, I knew it, I got pregnant. I didn't know who the father was." She spoke as tears beginning strolling down her face. Tommy felt his heart beating he didn't want to hear those words he thought was coming. He calmly sat down on a chair, wiring a hurt expression on himself, as he stare at his mom.

"Rick found out and came back to me trying to ask me if the child was his. I denied it and told him to leave me alone. I told him it was Shane, I eventually told Shane, and he supported me, Shane did everything for me knowing there was a chance the child, I give birth to wasn't his." His mother began sobbing trying to get closer to her son. Tommy moved his chair refusing his mom to come forward.

"Tell me what happen." He began to asked, with a hurt expression.

"When you were born, I held you in my arms and said you are the most beautiful little boy in my life. The son that I always wanted. Rick visited me again and asked if you were his. I denied it and I kept denying it the years he asked me later. I got married to Shane when I turn eighteen, we both graduate high school and found a house here, he said he'll get a job as a police officer to support our little family." His mother kept speaking, trying to overcome the uncontrollable sobs she didn't want to make. "Shane and I noticed the years you grew up how different you looked and how you spoke from him. We got into fights as Shane claimed you looked very different from him, I made sure to him that you were his son and the boy he raised since a child. Eventually your uncle, Jack had asked me to do paternity test on you and Rick to see if you guys match. Shane and I agreed to it, and he managed to swiped a DNA sample from Rick and I, than swiped a sample from you."

His mom began to controlled her tears and bend down on her knees trying to hold Tommy hand. "When the test results came back, Shane told me the news calmly. He said that there was 99 percent chance that you are Rick son. It broke my heart for you and Shane, he felt angry and left that night. He came back and saw you and noticed how you were a son to him, the son he raised since a baby. We promise each other we will never tell Rick about you, if there's a moment where he'll might be dying . . we promise to break our truce and tell Rick about you, Tommy." She sobbed again holding Tommy hand trying to plead for forgiveness.

Tommy took deep breaths. "How long did you know?"

He stared at his mother hazel eyes waiting for an answer. "Two years." She spoke confidently causing Tommy to raise his eyebrows hurt. He got up walked away from the kitchen and went outside hearing his mother screams. He couldn't forgive her, she hid the truth from him, he deserve to know. His mindset wasn't right at this moment, he began walking down the street thinking he was raised as Shane son, Rick never has been there for him.

He began to skipped school, stayed out late.
He couldn't help it. Shane confronted him one morning and assured him that he is his son no matter what, he felt tingle of hope whenever Shane will come in his room and confidently confess that he loves him no matter what.
He couldn't help it; his father meant the absolute world to him, he was his idol, so, when he was told that Rick is his biological father, he didn't want to believe it, he was completely broken. So when things went to shit, he didn't know what to do or how to act about it or even think about it. He was visiting his godmother house that morning, he helped her out with chores and groceries. Couple days after he found out that he was the son of Rick, his dad told Lori, she became very convinced on how Rick had lied to her every time when she would asked about Tommy, that it wasn't his son, she knew Tommy looked a lot like Rick than Shane.

"Tommy, can you call for Carl to come down and eat his lunch?"

Tommy nods heading upstairs to Carl room. He found Carl watching T.V, he smiled when he saw Carl bouncing up and down watching Batman & Robin. It's his favorite t.v show, Carl and him are very alike but he inherited his father blue piercing eyes as he inherited his mother hazel eyes.

"Squirt, get downstairs. Lunch is ready." He spoke, getting Carl attention.

"Coming." Carl yelled bumping into Tommy stomach, causing him to fall down. "Sorry big brother" spoke Carl softly leaning over him, with the biggest smirk on his face. When Carl found that Tommy was his half-brother, he couldn't believe it but most all he didn't understand the story behind it but Carl loved Tommy regardless if they were brothers are not. Maybe it was because Carl knows that both of they are grieving over their lost father in some sort of way.

They both managed to walked downstairs spotted Shane and Lori frantically packing items and luggage.

"Carl-" Lori spit out, running towards Carl taking him upstairs in hurry.

"What's going on, Dad?" He asked, confused.

"Don't you used your phone, Tommy?" Shane threw his phone that he left at home, Tommy catch it, looking through it spotting all the missed calls.

"What's going on?" He asked.

"Tommy, there's no time. Go home now, help your mother pack our things so go get your things now. We have to leave now." Shane demanded leaving Tommy confused even more.

"Uhm-"

"Now. Tommy." He demanded causing Tommy to flinched and leave. As he walked along the sidewalk, he couldn't help but notice how empty his town looked, as a Friday night, the streets should be crowded with people drinking and having a laugh, only it was completely empty. Something that Tommy had never seen before, even on a normal weekday. Although, he didn't think much of it, and carried on walking home, back to his mother. As he approached his house, he still found it strange how there was still hardly any people around, houses were looking empty, no one's cars were in sight and each house had their lights turned off, which was unusual for her hometown. He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion as he saw his uncle, Jack, putting bags into the car in a rush, like he was stressing out about something that was going down, only, Tommy had no clue about what was happening. "What's going on?" Tommy asked as he approached him, his hands still deep in her pockets due to the cold breeze of the night. "Tommy, where have you been?" His mother asked from the front door, upon seeing her son, she rushed out to pull him into a tight hug upon. He didn't understand what was going on, she would die before she let anything happen to him.

He was confused at why they were both packing up the car, especially at this kind of time, what were they thinking?

"I was with Lori, why are you packing up our things?" He asked his mom, after she pulled away from the hug, motioning towards Jack, who was stuffing things into the boot. He was confused, his mom pressed her lips into a thin line and exhaled deeply, not exactly knowing how to explain to him about everything that was going on, "Go to your room and pack a bag, only essentials, then I'll explain everything." She told him, desperately, knowing that she couldn't explain further at the moment - once they were safe and on the road, she could. "Why?" He began to ask, only for Jack to cut her off abruptly.

"Jesus, Tommy. Go and pack your stuff." He spoke harshly, before turning back to pack the car with more bags in a hurry. Jack stared at Tommy till he ran inside. He didn't know how he got so angry but he needed Tommy to get his head straight and grabbed his stuff as soon as possible. Tommy is his nephew, his sixteen year old nephew. He is twenty, he is not far from Tommy age but he knows teenagers can be rebellious at this age.

Now, Shane felt as if it was his duty, to look after his best friends family, and ensure that nothing would ever happen to them, they were his responsibility, just like Tommy is his moral responsibility to keep him safe regardless of not being his biological father.

Tommy sat behind his uncle car, silently. His uncle drove sat up front beside his mother. He heard that they were going up to the mountains and are going to be shelter there till things clear up down in the cities and towns. He found out that the dead are coming back from the grave. His uncle calls them geeks he simply didn't like the phrase but he stood by walkers he didn't come across one yet but he has feeling it will be sooner than he'll expected.
It wasn't until they had to come to a stop within a huge pile up of a traffic jam.

"Damnit!" His uncle yelled. His mother got out of the car. "I'm going to look for Shane, he must be here somewhere."

He smiled at his mother and assured her he'll be okay. After few minutes his uncle got out of the car. "Where are you going?" He asked stepping out of the car.

"Don't you see we don't have gas?" He questioned him back. "I'll be back. I'll go look for your mother and I'll be back with tank of gas. Stay in the car!" He ordered as he left leaving Tommy speechless. He stood outside the car waiting on the side, when he noticed his surroundings. The people. The traffic jam. He watched the people around him all getting out of their cars to look ahead, before he noticed three men up coming in front of him with two motorcycles, two wearing leather jackets and the one who looked the oldest, wearing nothing on his arms at all. He fell down to the floor, blocking the third motorcycle. He turn to looked and saw the person take off their helmet. That's when he noticed her jet-black hair, it's a girl, she smirk looking down on him.

"Get up, kid. Your blocking my traffic." She smirked, smiling. She looked eighteen at least. He got up still staring at her. "Watch out for people, umm-" She was lost for words then he spoke up.

"Tommy." He spoke confidently smiling. The girl laughed he noticed how fascinated and alluring her blue piercing eyes, flash out of her image. She continued to smile, as she put her helmet on tried to catch up with the other two riders. As he kept thinking about the girl he wondered if he'll ever see her again. That's when hear, the city of Atlanta began lighting up, indicating that bombs had started to go off, and that could only mean one thing..Rick he quietly stood silent watching from afar, thinking there goes the last chance he had to ever to talk to his dad. He knew that was his last hope, or so he thought.
