Chapter 50
Red Pov
*Ring!!*
"Make sure you all learn the last verse of Elfiehuld," the teacher announced, but I barely registered the words. My mind was preoccupied with other problems, far more pressing than memorizing some Elfyhood nonsense.
Stuffing my books into my bag, I made my way toward the classroom exit when Ana called out my name. Correction: she shouted my name.
"Where do you think you're going?" she asked, crossing her arms and looking annoyed. Confusion washed over me.
"Uhh... the toilet?" I replied, raising an eyebrow and trying to make sense of her sudden irritation.
"Fine, we'll follow you," she waved at the rest of the group, signaling them to join us.
"We?" I questioned, baffled by their collective decision.
"Yes, we," Jacob chimed in, standing beside Dean.
"Guys, it's just the toilet. What could happen?" I rolled my eyes, unable to comprehend their level of concern.
"Everything," they replied simultaneously, earning disapproving glances from a few departing students.
Ever since the incident with my lovely Aunt Morgan, the guys had become hyper-vigilant, never leaving my side for a second. Initially, I found it endearing that they believed their constant presence would shield me from harm or potential death. But now, it was becoming tiresome. I couldn't even use the damn bathroom without feeling their watchful eyes on me.
"Fine... but only the girls," I glared at Dean and Jacob, hoping they would understand that having two boys waiting outside the girls' bathroom was beyond awkward.
They nodded in agreement, leaving the classroom and allowing the other girls to join us. Ana wasted no time in dragging me toward the restroom, a mischievous smirk gracing Avery's face.
None of this would have been necessary if Amelia were here. She had the power to cast protective charms on me. But ever since discovering that my blood was needed to Awaken some creature, she had grown concerned and left immediately after her visit.
"Guys, wait here," I said, anticipating their objections but not waiting for them to voice them. I swiftly entered the restroom, leaving them outside. I hurriedly took care of my business, aware that they would soon barge in, demanding to know why I took so long.
As I approached the sink to wash my hands, Reyes's voice echoed in my mind.
"Tough break, right?" he calmly asked.
"You have no idea," I replied, finishing up and deciding to rest against the sink while conversing with him.
"They care about you. That's why," he reassured me.
"I know, but I feel so suffocated right now. I can't move or do anything without them breathing down my neck," I confessed, unsure if it was my own emotions or his presence that lightened my burden slightly.
"Why don't you spend some time with Ni- Mr. Caddel? After all, he's your Guardian, and I believe he's more skilled in combat than your friends," Reyes suggested.
It was a good idea, but what would I even talk to Mr. Caddel about? I wasn't sure if I was ready to have a private conversation with him, especially after the strange behavior that occurred during our last encounter in his office.
What if he's angry that I came uninvited?
"I don't think so. Just trust me," Reyes encouraged.
I was about to give it a second thought when Ana and Avery burst into the restroom, nearly startling me out of my skin.
"What the heck, guys!" I exclaimed, feeling a mix of frustration and annoyance. Right at that moment, I made up my mind.
"Sorry, Red. It's just that you took so long, and I know you're not exactly a fan of using the school restroom for anything more than necessary," Ana apologized, seemingly oblivious to how she knew my distaste for school toilets.
"How did you even know that?" Avery interjected, voicing my own question.
"It's a roommate thing," Ana shrugged, as if it were the most normal thing in the world. But seriously, it was weird.
Reyes's words echoed in my mind once again.
"Mr. Caddel," he reminded me.
"Guys..." I interrupted their discussion about the weirdness of roommate telepathy. Both of them turned their attention toward me. "Umm... uh, Mr. Caddel just texted me. He said he'd like to speak with me." I couldn't believe it. I had just lied to my friends for the first time.
"Really?" They stared at me, their eyes wide with surprise.
"Yep, so..." I walked toward the door. "You guys can stop following me for now. I'll be safe with him."
"Of course you will," Avery smirked, rolling her eyes, while Ana wiggled her eyebrows mischievously. I gave them a brief smile before departing the restroom and heading toward the one place that inexplicably left me feeling restless.
As I headed to his office, I began thinking of excuses I could use that sounded mature and reasonable on why I showed up unannounced.
'Just tell him you miss him,' Reyes suddenly said.
'Are you nuts!' My heart began to race fast as I saw myself standing in front of his door, The secretary was not in her office which I was thankful for.
I didn't know what would happen if he regretted my request to see him through her.
' Just tell him, I'm sure he will be glad' Reyes kept encouraging and for once I was happy that I couldn't see him if not I would kick his ass.
' Please just shut up, I beg you' I pleaded with him and he finally stopped talking. I inhaled and exhaled for the last time before knocking at the door.
" Come in" My body began feeling dizzy again, it always happens whenever I hear that masculine voice of his.
I opened the door slowly and was enticed by his strong cologne. It was so strong yet calm I loved his scent.
What on earth did I just say?
" Red?" I was expecting a frown or maybe a bit of anger in his tone but all I saw was surprise and amusement.
" Hi, Mr.Caddel" I whispered shyly, waving at him like a child, wanting for who knows what.
" Do you want to come in?" He smirked, raising his eyebrows and I would have scoffed if not that he looked so handsome in his suit.
I slowly nodded my head and gently closed the door, I walked slowly towards his desk and paused leaving a distance between us.
" What do I owe this visit, Miss Red?" He relaxed on his chair, staring at me with his usual gaze whenever I was around him.
" I just wanted to visit my guardian Is that a problem Mr Caddel," I responded in the most mature way possible but all I got was a laugh from him.
Did I say anything wrong? I thought.
" No you didn't," As though he read my mind, he responded to me with the brightest smile I have ever seen from him.
Was this his bipolar side again?
" I just find it funny with the way you replied to my question" He answered.
"How was it funny?" I tilted my head in confusion.
He deeply stared at me for a moment, not answering my question. My cheeks flushed in embarrassment with his stares and I wanted the ground to open.
Maybe he was thinking of something.
He suddenly blinked averting his gaze from me and adjusted his tie. I used the chance to take a seat next to him.
" Actually..." He stared back at me when he heard me speak."I'm running away from my friends" He smiled for a second before laughing at loud.
" It's not funny" I pouted.
" Well then, what do you want me from me Red," He tilts his head waiting for my response and I swear his eyes were glowing.
Was that a werewolf thing?
" I...I just want to hang out with you if that's okay" I answered honestly.
" In here?" He raised his eyebrow,
He stared at the office and looked back at me like a crazy person.
" No... Well yes... I don't know anywhere would be fine actually, I just feel so choked in here and I miss the human world so much," I lowered my head.
" Well since you missed it, I don't see why we can't go then" He spoke, My head rose instantly surprised by his answer. I thought he might talk me out of visiting it.
" Really?"
" Sure" He rose from his chair and I got the opportunity of seeing his full hard body again.
Act cool Red.
He walked to a stool and brought it close to my chair. My heartbeat began thumping once again, I tried not to think of the closeness we were but when you have a guy like Mr Caddel around you I don't staying calm is his effect.
" But it will be after I meet with the elders," He told me and I wondered what it could be about.
" Mind me asking why?" I slowly questioned hoping it was okay since it felt like seriously since it involved the elders.
" Of course it's about your safety though, I'm trying to convince them to allow more wolves to survey the school, Since your last incident I couldn't help but think how the imposter got into the school so I decided to have more people guard the school would keep you safe" He simply said, with his blue eyes burning bright with determination and sincerity.
" Why? I mean why go through this, What if they are against this? You don't need to go this extreme"I was so confused with how serious he looked. I mean I understand why he would be worried if a student his guarding went through that but isn't he taking it a little too far?
" I don't care if they are against it they must allow it" He sounded angry with my response.
" Why must they allow it?" I could only ask this since so many questions I wanted to ask would have an invalid answer.
He hesitated, looking at the ground as though his battling with himself. After a second he stared back at me and said,
" Because I care Red, I can't help not caring even if I wanted to," He replied, I didn't know, but my gut told me he was being honest. My heart began race knowing the fact the reason why he's doing this is because of me.
" Thank you for caring Mr.Caddel" I smiled at him, trying to hold back the tears that were lost to gushing out.
He nodded, moving back to his desk but stopped after a few steps and turned back at me.
" One more thing.." He smirked.
" You call me Nicholas privately"
