Chapter 21: Trapped in Shadows

RED POV

It didn't take long for Ana and I to clean up my space in the room. Since I didn't bring much, as Ana had said, it only took two hours to get everything done. The room was finally tidy, and I felt a sense of accomplishment wash over me.

As I lay on my bed, the darkness of the night enveloped the room, glanced at the clock and estimated it was around 9 o'clock. Turning to the left, I noticed Ana already fast asleep, snoring softly with her mouth slightly open, which was rather amusing. She reminded me of Aunt May, and I wished she could see this funny sight.

I reached for my phone, thinking it was with my uncle, but to my surprise,
It was inside the bad had given me class. I tried calling Aunt May, but it seemed there was no network signal in this realm. Puzzled, I wondered if they didn't use the same technology here.

Frowning at the thought, I realized how foolish it was and decided to ask Uncle J about it tomorrow. I looked at my phone and noticed another number.

It was Uncle J's number.

Slapping my forehead at my own stupidity, that no one would bother checking my phone so, I decided to leave the name as it was and kept my phone under my pillow, looking up at the ceiling to gaze at nothing but the stars that Ana had drawn on them. The room was quiet, and I found myself drifting off into the silence, embracing its tranquility.

A few hours passed, and suddenly, I felt a chill in the air. It was an intense, bone-chilling cold that seemed to seep into my very core. I felt trapped, as if I were locked inside a freezing cooler, struggling to catch my breath.

"Wake up, Red," a voice echoed in my head, closer than before.

"I can't. I feel trapped," I weakly replied, lacking the strength to ignore it.

"Please, get up," the voice pleaded, a sense of urgency in its tone.

"I'm scared," I confessed, surprised by my own vulnerability. I didn't know why I was opening up to this voice, but I felt like I had no other choice.

"Please don't be scared. I'm here, love," the voice reassured me.

"Love? That's new," I remarked, dismissing the endearment.

"Okay," I responded, choosing to ignore the voice's last comment.

Summoning every ounce of strength I could muster, I slowly opened my eyes, cautiously surveying my surroundings. I rose from the bed, catching a glimpse of light from the lantern that illuminated the room. But despite the light, the coldness persisted.

Confusion clouded my mind as I made my way towards Ana's room to share my experience, but then I remembered her rule-no physical contact. It didn't make sense to me why she would impose such a rule, but I respected her wishes and left her be.

As I turned to head back to my bed, a strange wind seemed to fill the room. It wasn't a physical wind, for nothing moved, but I could feel it, a chilling presence. I rushed to grab my phone, hoping to shed some light on the situation, but as I flashed the light on the wall, it instantly vanished.

The confusion grew, but the coldness dissipated, replaced by a lingering chill that seemed to emanate from outside the room. It was then that I noticed the door had been opened. I was certain I had locked it before, so how had it come undone?

Maybe Ana had gone out, but I would have heard her, wouldn't I?

As I cautiously approached the door to lock it again, whispers began to echo from the other side. I couldn't make out what they were saying, but I felt compelled to investigate.

"Stay inside," the voice in my head suddenly shouted, causing me to gasp in fright.

"No," I defiantly replied, continuing to inch closer to the door as the whispers grew louder.

"Please, love, stay inside," the voice pleaded once more, its desperation evident.

"Stop calling me that," I snapped back, my determination unyielding.

"Fine, I won't, but please, go inside and lock the door," the voice acquiesced.

"How do you even know what I want to do?" I questioned, bewildered.

"I'm in your head, Red. I can feel every thought and action you want to take," the voice explained.

"Then get out, because I won't listen to you," I declared, realizing that my mental defenses were not as impenetrable as I had thought.

I reached for the door, my hand grasping the doorknob.

To my surprise, it was warm, contrasting the ice-cold sensation that plagued my legs.

"Put on your shoes," the voice suggested.

"No," I stubbornly refused.

"You truly are a stubborn creature," the voice commented, exasperated.

"Then leave me," I challenged, determined to forge my own path.

To my shock, there was no response, but I paid it no mind. I had already made up my mind to venture outside. I illuminated the corridor with my phone's light, but there was nothing to be seen.

The whispers gradually subsided, yet an eerie wind continued to swirl around me. It felt as though it was trying to suffocate me, but I resisted its grasp and pressed on, driven by an unknown force. Perhaps I wanted to prove my strength to the voice or maybe I was being lured once again, just like before.

I hoped it was because I wanted to feel strong.

Eventually, my futile search came to an end, and I decided to return to my bed, berating myself for the foolishness that had led me astray. But as I turned to leave, I froze on the spot, my entire being seized by an indescribable terror. My body trembled uncontrollably, and my eyes widened in sheer disbelief. I gasped, my hand instinctively reaching out to steady my trembling phone before it slipped from my grasp.

Before me stood a woman, cloaked in a long, flowing garment as white as freshly fallen snow. But it was not the stark contrast of her attire against the darkness that sent shivers down my spine. No, it was the macabre stains of blood that marred her once pristine garment, forming a grotesque tapestry of horror. Her dark, unkempt hair hung like a curtain, obscuring her face, a veil of mystery and dread.

Yet, it was not her disheveled appearance that struck me with paralyzing fear. It was the abomination that clung to her back, a shadowy figure resembling a man. It moved with sinister purpose, mirroring her every step, as if bound to her by some unholy force. The air around them crackled with an otherworldly energy, and the shadow emitted a chilling presence that sent my senses reeling.

Questions raced through my mind, muffled cries of desperation echoing within my soul. Why had fate chosen me to witness this unholy union? What malevolent force had drawn them to this place? I felt a primal instinct urging me to flee, to escape this nightmare, but my legs refused to heed the desperate commands of my mind.

"Move," I pleaded with every fiber of my being. "Please, move!"

The realization of my helplessness washed over me, a suffocating wave of resignation. I could not meet my demise in this wretched corner, consumed by fear and regret. Thoughts of loved ones flooded my mind-my mother, my father, Aunt May, and Uncle J. Their faces flickered before me, a haunting reminder of the life I had hoped to protect.

Tears welled in my eyes, blurring my vision, as my cheeks became soaked with the mingling of sweat and sorrow. Time seemed to slow as they advanced toward me, their movements deliberate and unhurried, relishing in my terror. It dawned on me-their intentions were never to harm me physically, but to ensnare me, to lure me into their clutches like a helpless prey.

A desperate plea escaped my trembling lips, barely a whisper in the oppressive silence that surrounded us. "Please... anyone, save me."

But the void answered me with a resounding silence, broken only by the chilling whispers that grew louder, inching closer with each passing second. The presence of impending doom loomed mere inches away, its cold breath caressing my skin.

Desperation consumed me entirely as I pleaded silently with my own shattered soul. "Please," I whispered, my voice barely audible. "Please..."

Then, as lucky finally found me, I heard a voice behind me.

"Σε ό,τι είναι χάος και κακόβουλο, ο σας διατάζω να φύγετε από εδώ και να μην επιστρέψετε ποτέ ξανά!"

And just like that, the woman standing so close to me began to dissipate into thin air, vanishing before my disbelieving eyes. Yet, my body remained rooted to the spot, still held captive by fear's icy grip. I lacked the strength to move, to break free from the invisible chains that bound me.

"Red! Red!" The female voice pierced through the haze of my consciousness, filled with panic and desperation. Strong hands grasped my shoulders, shaking me with fervor. Fear reflected in the eyes of the girl before me, tears streaming down her face.

Avery

"Red, please say something!" she pleaded, her voice trembling with a mixture of fear and anguish.

But I was lost in the depths of my own despair, trapped in a darkness that consumed me whole. I could not utter a single word, though I felt the weakness seeping into my bones.

"Please, fucking answer me!" she cried out, her voice a desperate wail that echoed through the void. Tears mingled with her anguish as she held me tightly, her strength the only thing keeping me from collapsing.

Amidst her cries, another voice pierced the darkness. "What is going on here? Red!" It was Ana, her footsteps growing closer, the urgency in her voice palpable.

But it was too late. The darkness had already claimed me, and I succumbed to its relentless embrace.

Translation: "In all that is chaos and mischievous, I command you to flee from here and never return!"
