Chapter 16 (Pt. 1) - Viktor
He spun around the room, smiling as he held the female in his arms. She was beautiful in her innocent baby-blue dress, which brought out her sparkling eyes and lively features. He set her on the ground, her feet encased by wispy green grass, soft and gentle.
Of course, his girlfriend wasn't what most guys would expect at this moment- girlie, giggling, coy- instead, when he placed her on the ground, she tackled him. He landed with a thud, grunting when she dropped down on top of him. Winded, he rolled her to his side to catch his breath. "It's so pretty up here." Her voice turned his attention to the scenery.
They were on a small hill, overlooking the meadow before them. Tall blazing stars reached to the sky with their purple arms. At their bases, little white bloodroots blanketed the earth, climbing the hill toward the teenagers. They themselves had the spotted petals of irises nipping at their clothes.
It was a blue day with a clear sky, the kind that seemed almost holographic in nature, and revealed the curvature of the earth solely in the vast turn of the sky. The sun, almost directly overhead, hugged them with the warmth of spring. New life rose around them, and more importantly, from within each of them.
"Yeah. You are." He grinned at her, finally having caught his breath. Evelyn snickered and shook her head. "That doesn't even make sense." Oddly enough, he found the slug to his shoulder rather endearing.
The two lay there, staring at the sky. Its blue arms hugged the earth beneath it, holding them each in unity with the world around them. The buzzing of an insect now and them disturbed neither of them, for the breeze that kissed their cheeks also carried away the threat of anything that stung or bit.
There was a pain in Viktor's chest. It was duller than it used to be. It had once been sharp, unbearable, and endless. Often when things were peaceful, it would reappear. Sighing, he placed a hand over his heart, as if trying to rub out the ache of his missing brother.
His girlfriend noticed the behavior. She leaned over, and pressed her soft, glossy pink lips against his cheek. Gently, she toyed with his hair, fingers brushing through to keep the peace and distract his mind. Viktor cast her a thankful glance, before sitting beside her.
They'd come so far together. Scooting to her side and placing an arm over her shoulders while they watched the sun climb into the atmosphere was all he needed to find peace once more. No more detective work, no more picking fights with everyone that looked at him sideways, no more crazy wild secrets, no more murderers- the wound in his heart was still there, yes, but with Evelyn's help, he'd been able to sew it shut so that healing could commence. For that, he was eternally grateful.
"Look, if you two are almost done, the truck needs gas." Someone hovered over them, blocking out the light of the sun. "Why ruin the moment, Bean? Just lay down with us." Evelyn shuffled comfortably on the grass, keeping her eyes closed. For a few moments, there seemed to be a silent debate. The sun came over her eyelids, warmth returning to her skin. She felt the grass beside her shift, and Bean's thin arm brushed against hers just for a moment.
The three of them laid there, soaking in the sunlight and allowing each stroke of the wind to erase the pain of the past. After a little longer, they each made their ways to the car. The entire ride, they spoke and laughed and enjoyed themselves. There was no bitterness in the air. No chill, or unwelcomed sorrow.
Viktor glanced at his girlfriend. Evelyn, playfully smiling, was poking at Bean. "Stop distracting the driver!" The shrimpy boy yipped, all in a light-hearted attitude. Viktor couldn't help but smile at the two of them, and what they'd all become.
Just because Evelyn was the offspring of a serial killer didn't mean she was going to make nothing out of her life. No matter what people said of her, no matter what they spewed. She wasn't going to be a failure. The world would have to watch as she placed herself back on her feet, broken free from her title as the daughter of the damned.
(I ALWAYS finish my stories with the title. BOOM SHAKA LAKA!! I REALLY hope you enjoyed this one, it took a while, and I don't think it's good enough to PUBLISH publish, like some of my OTHER works, but it seemed like perfect Wattpad content! I love you all, and I hope you're blessed! We can do a Q&A if you want, just ask stuff now!! And I'll do an aftermath thing anyway :3)
