Lost

Dan's point of view

"What's that?" I asked my friend as we walked through a large group of trees. We could hear a light trickle of water and so we followed the sound. I stood in complete awe as I stared at the tiny stream. Rocks were sitting in the river and I let out a loud help as Phil jumped into one.

It smelt fresh. Fresh isn't really a scent but that was the only way I could describe it. I inhaled deeply, just admiring the environment. Trees towered over us, making us seem as small as a particle of dust in the universe. I felt something cold hit my legs, soaking through my jeans. It took me a moment but I soon realised my friend had splashed me.

I rolled my eyes, ignoring him as I jumped on a moss-covered rock. My foot slipped a little but I soon regained my balance.

It was almost silent, making the moment so much more mesmerising. The only sound was the gentle breeze, rustling the leaves on the trees- well and the sound of Phil leaping on all the rocks.

I smiled gently as I watched my friend act like a seven-year-old trapped in the body of a teenager. We may have been lost but, in that moment, neither of us cared. Calm was enveloping us like a comfy blanket, making us feel safe. Then Phil's foot slipped. He let out a high-pitched squeal as he fell into the shallow stream. My eyes widened as I waited for him to say he was okay.

Phil was in hysterics, laughing so hard tears rolled down his cheeks but they may have been drips from the water he was lying in. I quickly joined in and everything felt surprisingly okay.

"I could stay here forever." I mumbled, staring into the trees that were surrounding me. I had my feet in the water, my shoes and socks discarded next to me.

"Me too." Phil replied, using a broken stick to draw in the mud. He was drawing two stickmen and a little house but, before I could question it, our names were called- or rather screamed. Our heads perked up to see the rest of our group, glaring at us.

"We've been searching for hours! This is the last time we're taking you on an expedition." The leader said. I turned to see Phil laughing ecstatically so I joined it too.

What's your favourite subject at school? (Yes I'm going to try and start asking questions at the end of my chapters again)
