A bright light flooded into the room. Pearl opened her eyes and saw sunlight blasting through the open canopy overhead. She heard a door open and looked towards the entrance of the room. She noticed Thorn and sat upright. "Good morning Pearl." He said. "Good morning." Thorn started to hop up the rocks towards her. "Looks like it's all done." Pearl looked at her legs and feet and saw that they were dragon like, with blue scales covering them. "Woah, this is cool." "I know right." "Hey Thorn," "Yes.", "I never got your age." "Oh, I'm 18." "Really I'm 17." "Okay." Pearl noticed something growing out of Thorns backside. "Thorn," "Yes.", "are you also going through a transformation." "To be honest, yes." "So what's transforming." "A tail." "Really, wow." "I guess." "Hey my feet don't hurt anymore. Can we start climbing again?" "Sure." Pearl hopped to her feet and jumped up to next rock. "Woah, these legs are really good at jumping." "That's because your now part dragon." "Really, that's so cool." She stretched out her legs as Flametail jumped up beside her. "Chirr-up." Flametail squeaked. Pearl bent downwards and patted Flametail on the head. "Who's a good boy, you are." "Pearl, he's not a dog." "I know, but he's still my pet." They continued to climb up the slope jump by jump, step by step. Pearl noticed that Thorn was lagging behind. "You good Thorn?" "I think so." "Does it hurt?" "A little." "Do you want to head back down?" "No I'll be fine." "Okay." Pearl looked up and saw the top just a few jumps away. "We're almost there." "Good." She jumped up the last few jumps and sat down on a rock to wait for Thorn. Thorn jumped up the last few rocks but fell as he was jumping to the last one where Pearl was. Pearl saw a bit of blood coming off of Thorns shirt as he laid on the ground. "Thorn you okay?" Pearl asked. Nothing came out of his mouth. She started to take his shirt off to check where the blood was coming from.  She finally got it off when two large wings fanned out wide knocking her off her feet. "Woah." "Uhhh." Groaned Thorn. "Oh my gosh you're awake." "Now I am." "That's good." Thorn stood up and looked down at his chest. "You took off my shirt!" He screamed. "Yes I had to check the blood." "Well make me up next time that happens!" "I'm sorry." "Well you now know kind of what I am, so I might as well tell you the rest." "What do you mean." "I was the first." "Of what." "All of this. Everything, the testing procedures, genetic mutation. All when I was only 13." "Then why is your tail only growing now." "They don't know, it must have been defected somehow making it harder to come out." "At least it's coming out." "I guess." "So should we get to Flametails training." "Yeah we probably should." Thorn walked over to the edge of the rock and gestured to Pearl to follow. "The best way to start off is to show him flying, and since I have wings and you don't, I'll demonstrate or him." "Okay sounds reasonable." Just place him right here," He said pointing to a spot by the edge, "and I'll work my magic." "Okay." Pearl picked Flametail up and carried him to the edge, placing him where Thorn directed. "Okay, he's ready." She looked over at Thorn and saw that he actually looked kinda like a dragon. "Woah." "I know, just let show him." "Okay, fine." Thorn jumped off the cliff and Pearl peered eagerly over the edge. Just as he was about to hit the rocky terrain below, he spread out his wings and started to glide upwards. Flametail cooed in awe as Thorn started to fly upwards past them. "Look Flametail see the motion of his wings, that's what you need to try to do." Flametail started to copy the motion while running around and started to lift a few feet off the ground.that only lasted a short while, for he was tilted to one side because of his wing. Flametail crashed snout first into a bush. Thorn landed right beside them on all fours. "Is he okay?" Thorn asked. "Let's check." Pearl replied. She went over to the bush, pulled Flametail out, and saw aquamarine blood oozing down his forehead. "Oh my gosh!" Thorn screeched. "What should we do?" Asked Pearl. "Take him to the vet straightaway." "Okay then, let's go." Together they both started to hop down the rocks with Flametail in Pearls arms. They reached the door and Thorn thrust it open. "Come on let's go." Thorn started to rush down the hall with Pearl right on his tail. He stopped at a door and knocked. Someone opened the door from the inside and allowed them in. "Hope it's an emergency." Thorn told the woman. She took one look at Pearl and Flametail and said, "it sure is. Here honey let me take him inside." "Okay thank you." "No problem."
