MAKING DUSTIN'S TOWER HAD BEEN A BUST, FIRST ELEVEN AND MIKE HAD ABANDONED THEM BEFORE THEY EVEN REACHED THE TOP, with a questionable excuse even Milo could decipher as untrue, and then the group after a thorough discussion about Romeo and Juliet, Mormons and the explanation about who Phoebe Cates was. And as they sat hours upon hours in the grass with the sun beaming down on them ,while the Henderson boy tried, with emphasis on tried to contact his so called Mormon girlfriend the supposedly fun day was left a waste. But when the sun had started to set, the last loyal kids from the group slowly started to dwindle, leaving only Dustin, Will and Milo in the orange tinted hues of an approaching night.
"Suzy do you copy, it is Dustin. Over."
"Dustin?" Milo spoke up, lifting his head up from where it rested on top of his arms, blonde hair a complete and utter mess from the amount of times he hand ran his fingers through it "I have to go too, dad's gonna worry soon."
Dustin's gleeful and hopeful face fell but he nodded half-heartedly at him nonetheless. "Yeah, yeah."
Milo smiled faintly, pushing himself up from the ground, the small pieces of grass he had tugged from the ground falling gracelessly down to the ground. Milo quickly waved at Will, uttering a quick goodbye before starting his descend down the hill.
The blonde haired boy, despite the warm summer air felt a shiver go up his spine as he slowly started to walk towards their abandoned bikes at the bottom of the hill before reaching out to grab the rusted blue coloured bike. As he slowly rode down the deserted road and entered the more lived-in area of Hawkins, Milo slowed down as he passes by multiple stores. Up ahead he notices a large truck standing on the street, carton boxes sprawled over the pavement next to what he remembers to be Joyce's store. Said woman is standing by the door of the store making polite conversation with a petite brown haired woman dressed in a flowery sundress.
"Milo!" His eyes widen at the exclamation of his name over the busy street even though it's already getting late. His gaze flickers to Joyce who is waving him over, one of the brightest smiles on her face as she looks at him.
He blinks, quite unsure of what to do in this situation. His father had only stated not to tell anyone his name this morning and now Joyce had shouted it out for everyone with ears to hear. Carefully stepping off of his bike to walk beside it, Milo slowly walks over to where Joyce is beckoning him.
The blonde sixteen year old feels completely out of place as Joyce wraps an arms over his shoulder, pulling him closer to her side while he tries to keep his bike upstanding.
"Oh is this one of your sons?" The unfamiliar brunette questions, observing the two of them with twinkling eyes.
"Oh no." Joyce laughs sweetly, "This is Milo, he's the son of the chief."
Milo grins up at the woman, almost in a child-like innocent of a little kid. "Hello."
"I actually have a daughter around your age," The woman adds after a moment, "She doesn't like moving, and sadly we do that quite a lot. It will be nice for her to have a familiar face at school."
"I don't go to school." Milo manages to reply in an actual normal English sentence, unbothered by the strange look he receives from the woman.
"Home-schooled." Joyce quickly cuts in, trying to cover up anything that might raise some red flags.
"Oh what a shame."
"Mum? Where do you want me to drop these boxes?" Another voice calls out from the door in the building next to Joyce's store.
Milo watches as a pretty girl in a blue sweater with the same brown hair as the woman in front of him peek out to look at them. But when she sees a couple of strangers on the sidewalk her eyes widen for a fraction in surprise.
"Just leave them for a sec Juno, come meet Joyce and Milo."
He watches the girl hesitate for a short second before she turns around, the sound of something being dropped on the ground echoing before she comes into full view.
Milo notices the bounce in her step as she approaches them, a small glimmer in her eyes as she looks at them before she let's her eyes rest on him.
"Juno Carlton." She holds her hand out for Milo to shake, and with one quick side glance at Joyce who smiles encouragingly at him he takes it. "Milo."
"So Milo." The girl slings her arm around his neck, pulling him away from Joyce and into her side, "What do you do around here for fun?"
There it is again. The word fun. The one thing he is not according to his little sister. The one words he can't seem to understand even if he read the definition about a hundred times at this point.
"Uh." He blinks again, and he watches the smile on Juno's face slowly fade away as she looks at him strangely.
"He's a bit shy." Joyce tries to explain as Milo pushes himself away from the new girl, a faint blush coating his cheeks.
"I need to get home." Milo stuttered out, jumping on his rusted bike and dashing down the street, leaving one woman sad, one woman confused and one girl quite intrigued. "Interesting."

MILO FELT QUILTY FOR SOME REASON LATER THAT EVENING AS HE SAT INSIDE HIS ROOM, the radio softly playing in the background as he laid on his bed staring at the ceiling. Tell no one your name, it was a simple rule to follow, and yet in a couple of seconds did not only Joyce shout it out, but did he introduce himself as Milo to the brunette girl. He had been contemplating telling his dad since he came home earlier than expected. He had after all skipped going to the arcade. But he can't find it in himself to actually approach Jim about it.
"my life has been such a whirlwind since I saw yo-" Milo sits up surprised by the sudden silence coming from Eleven's room, where she and Mike once again were together doing god knows what.
Pushing himself up, the tall blonde peeks out of his room to see Jim sitting in El's room on a chair, the two teens sitting crossed legged on the bed. Unsure as to what has happened this time, Milo silently approaches the room, leaning against the door frame. Jim is oblivious to his presence, but the two other kids steal fleeting glances at him.
"uhm. . ." Milo watches as Jim tries to find the words, "What I uh... needed to say to you. What I wanted to say to you. . . is that I uhm."
"ah oh-I think we're in trouble." Mike whispers, holding back laughter as they watch the chiefs struggle. Milo frowns, not quite sure as to why Mike would even think they were anywhere near in trouble.
"No, nobody is in trouble. . . I-I just wanted" Hopper trails off as he watches Mike lean into El, whispering something in her ear before to two fall into a fit of laughter.
"You know what." Hopper breaths out, "Your mom called."
"What?"
Milo wants to ask the same question, not remembering when the phone had even went of at all. All he remembers is his dad watching some television on the couch.
"Yeah, she needs you home right away."
"Is everything okay?" Mike asks unsure, brows creased together.
"No. I don't think so. It's your grandma."
In a matter of seconds Hopper and Mike are hurrying out of the cabin, leaving both Hopper kids alone. Milo watches as El's face contort into a worried one when they hear the familiar sound of the police cruisers engine roaring.
"Eleven?" Milo calls out quietly as he steps into his little sister's room, hand hovering over the radio to turn it back on. He watches El's lips twitch into a small smile at the gesture.
"Everything alright?" He continues, sitting down on the bed next to her.
She smiles at him, honest and genuine, unlike the forced twitch of lips she gave him this morning. Almost hesitantly he slings his arm around her shoulders, bringing him into his side. "Do you think he's mad at me?"
Of course she would only admit it without Hopper present that she doesn't want to disappoint the only normal father figure she has ever had, let alone want to pretend she doesn't care about him or what he says. She just wants to rebel a little, like any normal kid.
"Never." Milo shakes his head as El leans her head on his shoulder, "He just afraid to lose you."
"Why?"
"Because you are with Mike all the time." Milo states, "I think that's what fathers are supposed to do. At least, that's what Jonathan said to me. They don't want us to grow up."
El giggles softly as she stares up at him, "But you are as tall as Hop."
"Then you better stay little a while longer." He grins, leaning his own head on top of hers.
"Are you mad at me?" Eleven wonders after a moment, a hint of fear laced in her words as she glances up at her brother.
"No of course not, I'm just sad." Milo answers honestly, "I don't like that you don't enjoy spending time with me."
Eleven sits back up straight, turning slightly so she is facing him. "I didn't mean that. I don't think you're not fun. I was just angry."
"It's okay." Milo smiles at her, and his hearts warms at the sight of Eleven widening smile before she lungs forward to hug him.
"I'm really sorry." She whispers again.
Milo only tightens his grip on her, "No worries princess."
El embrace becomes just a little stronger, half forgotten memories of passed days passing through the both of them. "Thank you knight."
It doesn't take long for both kids to fall into a deep slumber, both cuddled together, leaning with their backs against the wall in an awkward slumped over position.
And that is exactly how Jim Hopper finds his kids when he returns from taking Mike home, a small smile on his lips as he watches them sleep. Tiptoeing in the room, Jim shuts the radio off before throwing a small blanket over Milo and El before he retreats to his own room for the night.
His worries feeling less heavy after witnessing the sight.
